This is good stuff. If you are a fan of Kenny Vaughan than you should check him out in the videos that I have on my channel...he's performing with an upcoming artist, Sam Lewis.
There's a new documentary about Blaze Foley doing the film festival rounds at present. Gurf Morlix, who used to play with Blaze, is touring with it, singing Blaze's songs. Well worth catching, if you can.

@bayougrrrl yes!!! but i was not till... late 90's.... but my question is... i wanna hear steve earle and lucinda williams...is that steve earle in this song with her?
Weirdly, the band sounds a bit like Rod Stewart & the Faces, as in Maggie May/ Mandolin Wind, bloody hell even the chords are similar...hey, that's a compliment
To OLEGNAMIJ: That is Chris Masterson, from Houston (Now living in NYC) on lead guitar to Lucinda's left and our right. Yes, he is a great guitarist. He tours as a lead with quite a few people. His hair is dyed black, or sometimes another color! - but, he is actually an albino, and always has some pretty heavy glasses on. Really good guy.

This is appropriate of nothing, but a friend, an unknown but well-loved poet, recently dead, told me that he had a friend who had made love to Lucinda. I asked him to tell me who it was, because we had a few friends in common, but he wouldn't say. Quinton, my friend, I hope it was you! Love, Chris
@kyrgyzstanification I know someone from here in Knoxville TN that dated her for Months. But hes kinda big in the music scene too. I met her one night and SHE was the Drunken Angel!
Great song ! Not misandry-music... - but one that whizzes close, past a lot of guys' heads... and this guy, Blaze Foley , seems to have become an over-death success.
Lucinda Williams has become one of my favorites in the last ten years.
But I was wondering about this 12-string "sound". It's not a " moldy" tone, but that's a great name. "Jangly"iswhat most people call it. Who's got exactly the right word ? Anybody?
@Mouldytone You are correct, my friend. At first I assumed that the guy in the glasses was Gurf, partially because the name fit his appearance, but hid name is Kenny Vaughan. KR
@magprob She recruited a new band between recording "Car Wheels on a Gravel Road" which this song is on and the tour which this performance is from. If anyone wants to see the old band with Gurf Morlix on guitar there's a clip of "Something About What Happens When We Talk" elsewhere on Youtube (which won't let me post the link).
I met Lucinda after she played mountain stage in Charleston, Wv-I was with a friend of hers so we went back stage and after we all went to the Marriott and talked for about 2 hours-I asked her about this song and she said she wrote it about a friend of hers, I believe in Texas-she was very nice and humble and what a kickin band back then-young guy played guitar, wonder what happened to him?
@Gauleyriver song is baout Blaze Floey. her friend is BLAZE FOLEY who was murdered (shot in the chest by the son of Blaze's friend in Feb 1989 during a drunken argument or fight at their house. dead at 39 and a guy who wrote great music but lived an interesting, not so traditional life. sad story of a very talented dude who was taken way too early. check out John Prine's cover of CLAY PIGEONS (another Blaze tune).
I like sining this song, it is from 'car wheels on a gravel road" I have the new version which is double cd. Her style still keeps the country spirit unlike so many newcomers that don't retain that spirit but have crossed over or or too young to appreciate roots music
"science of emotional manipulation" Very interesting view of this song much less the rst of her stuff. Have to think about that defintion. Pretty insightful. Mixes it pretty good with melodies to boot !!!!
@badtele You are right. Sheryl Crows album "Tuesdayt Night Music Club" really was a freaking AWESOME album. After that, NOTHING. Pure Top 40 pop nonsense. But hey, she made ALOT of money.
Sheryl Crow isnt even on the same level as Lucinda. Lucinda is the REAL DEAL.
Well, that 12 string does indeed look like a Danelectro U2. Could be. But I would venture to guess it is a Jerry Jones- a US company that specializes in making very high quality hand crafted "tributes" (for lack of a better word)-to the old Dano's.
I'd like to know where Kenny Vaughn got that 12 string Danelectro -- looks like a U2, except that I can't find any record of Danelectro producing a 12 string version.
Also-Lucinda has been quoted in concert as saying this song is about Townes Van Zandt--must depend on how she's feeling at any given moment.
You have to have talent first of all and second, you gotta be at least good looking for a babe like Williams to at least be interested. Other than that keep blacking out like the rest of us losers.

Definitely a Great Guitarist, loved seeing him jam when Lucinda would introduce him.Now it;s just Back Up but with him being soTall & thin, the Rhinestone suit does nothing for him but make him look stiff,Poor Guy!

Sun came up it was another day And the sun went down you were blown away Why'd you let go of your guitar Why'd you ever let it go that far Drunken Angel Could've held on to that long smooth neck Let your hand remember every fret Fingers touching each shiny string But you let go of everything Drunken Angel Drunken Angel You're on the other side Drunken Angel You're on the other side Followers would cling to you Hang around just to meet you
Yes sir! Lucinda is at her best when loose as a goose! Good stuff...when's she comin' back to austin?? Are you going to see Guy Clark at The Cactus in Sep.?
