  • I own a couple of Lucinda Williams CDs...I should buy more, she's great.

  • This is good stuff. If you are a fan of Kenny Vaughan than you should check him out in the videos that I have on my channel...he's performing with an upcoming artist, Sam Lewis.

  • There's a new documentary about Blaze Foley doing the film festival rounds at present. Gurf Morlix, who used to play with Blaze, is touring with it, singing Blaze's songs. Well worth catching, if you can.

  • nice

  • This song could have been written for the Late Great Gram Parssons as well I have always thought. When I hear this I always think of Gram.

  • @calbeatnik This song really could be about GP as well your right.

  • fantastico!!

  • That's Kenny Vaughan on 12 String. Not Gurf Morlix. Just thought you like to know.

  • @mollywhooped AKA Ernie Douglas!

  • Great tribute to Blaze written and sung with pain, anger, sorrow, and most of all love.

  • my mom used to listen to this women shes got a gift i mean all the other singers are all "Woop ur but woop my but its a party of the a** woop it yeah yeah woop it hard oooooooooo" thats the truth of wat kids listen to

  • What is that teal guitar? I want that so bad...

  • @dewpdx danelectro

  • @dewpdx rickenbacker

  • Great song

  • Nice Danelectro.

  • yes...this one is great

  • i listen to punk rock and play in a punk band and lucinda williams is incredible.

  • it's kenny vaughan on guitar ...

  • well i listen to lucinda wiliams everyday , and show her beautiful talents to someone new every month, everytime i envolope the new unsuspecting child to her beautiful world , the reaction is always the same . how come i have never heard her befor , she is amazing ,oh my god , !!! how can i get this music , and say thesame thing over and over , when the mesenger is ready , you will recieve .. .

  • @vonpirosproductions maybe you have the wrong friends if they don't know who lucinda williams is. i've known who she is since 1994.

  • @bayougrrrl yes!!! but i was not till... late 90's.... but my question is... i wanna hear steve earle and lucinda williams...is that steve earle in this song with her?

  • not popular in Japan, but I think a great musician.

  • What a voice! You can hear the feeling in every one of her songs! Beautiful, not polished just beautiful!

  • Cool, I didnt know she actually knew him

  • another great song by lucinda, she is a triple threat!!!

  • i love this awesome singer

  • blaze foley <3

  • I always come back to listen to this song. It just does something to me.

  • crunch me in between your twang baby

  • Weirdly, the band sounds a bit like Rod Stewart & the Faces, as in Maggie May/ Mandolin Wind, bloody hell even the chords are similar...hey, that's a compliment

  • @denisdeasy yeah i hear that too

  • @denisdeasy Yeah I also thought this sounded like Maggie May, especially in the opening chords

  • @denisdeasy That was the first thing I heard too, before I saw the comments. Great song too!

  • I love this song and I can EVEN play it!!!

  • what model electric 12-string is that?

  • IMAGINE HER WITH TOM PETTY????????

  • @MrPamelanygard Then listen to Petty singing "Change the Locks"

  • To OLEGNAMIJ: That is Chris Masterson, from Houston (Now living in NYC) on lead guitar to Lucinda's left and our right. Yes, he is a great guitarist. He tours as a lead with quite a few people. His hair is dyed black, or sometimes another color! - but, he is actually an albino, and always has some pretty heavy glasses on. Really good guy.

  • @mjreed66 it's actually kenny vaughan who plays for marty stuart now!

  • man.. she looked SO good here, best look for her IMO

  • Couldn't love this son anymore then I already do :) song of my childhood. My Mom and I listened to this song every day for a year.

  • Finally, I know the name of this Drunken Angel. My favourite Lucinda song. This song reminds me of many people on the other side.

  • Search "Blaze Foley -Clay Pigeons" You'll like it.

  • Lucinda is such a underated player.I can`t ever get enough of her.

  • Great song, great artist. Thx for posting! Cheers.

  • is this song about gram parsons?

  • @Ilovebeefroxmypants It's about Blaze Foley.

  • Blaze, You live on in everything I do. God bless you. I love, Much love my friend!

  • Fabulous!!! -BAC

  • This is appropriate of nothing, but a friend, an unknown but well-loved poet, recently dead, told me that he had a friend who had made love to Lucinda. I asked him to tell me who it was, because we had a few friends in common, but he wouldn't say. Quinton, my friend, I hope it was you! Love, Chris

  • @kyrgyzstanification I know someone from here in Knoxville TN that dated her for Months. But hes kinda big in the music scene too. I met her one night and SHE was the Drunken Angel!

  • Intermixing interesting insightful Lucinda.Rare an oxymoron descriptive in song...sing it Sweet.

  • Great song ! Not misandry-music... - but one that whizzes close, past a lot of guys' heads... and this guy, Blaze Foley , seems to have become an over-death success.

Lucinda Williams has become one of my favorites in the last ten years.

But I was wondering about this 12-string "sound". It's not a " moldy" tone, but that's a great name. "Jangly"iswhat most people call it. Who's got exactly the right word ? Anybody?

  • great song and performance.. love it

  • Gurf Morlix 12 string guitar

    John Ciambotti bass guitar

This is who played on the original recording:

    Donald Lindley drums

    Johnny Lee Schell guitar

    Steve Earle acoustic guitar

    Roy Bittan organ

    Jim Lauderdale harmony vocals

  • @magprob G`Day. I`m not sure of the other players but that`s definitely Kenny Vaughan on 12 string.

    Tony

  • @Mouldytone Yea, it's not Gurf. Gurf played with Blaze. Only right he should play on the recording.

  • @Mouldytone You are correct, my friend. At first I assumed that the guy in the glasses was Gurf, partially because the name fit his appearance, but hid name is Kenny Vaughan. KR

  • @Mouldytone Agreed, Gurf Morlix quit the band during the recording of Car Wheels on a Gravel Road.

  • @magprob Don't refer to Bass as Bass Guitar.

  • @edditude09 bass guitar bass guitar bass guitar bass guitar bass guitar bass guitar bass guitar bass guitar bass guitar bass guitar.

  • @edditude09 Please no! Not a symantics snob! LOL

  • @magprob It's Richard Price on bass & Kenny Vaughan on gtr.

  • @magprob I can't think of a single better name for a guitarist than "Morlix". Priceless.

  • @magprob She recruited a new band between recording "Car Wheels on a Gravel Road" which this song is on and the tour which this performance is from. If anyone wants to see the old band with Gurf Morlix on guitar there's a clip of "Something About What Happens When We Talk" elsewhere on Youtube (which won't let me post the link).

  • This song is a masterpiece.

  • That's Kenny Vaughn on guitar, not Bo.

  • You mean Sheryl Crow is not a crack whore!!!

  • I met Lucinda after she played mountain stage in Charleston, Wv-I was with a friend of hers so we went back stage and after we all went to the Marriott and talked for about 2 hours-I asked her about this song and she said she wrote it about a friend of hers, I believe in Texas-she was very nice and humble and what a kickin band back then-young guy played guitar, wonder what happened to him?

  • @Gauleyriver song is baout Blaze Floey. her friend is BLAZE FOLEY who was murdered (shot in the chest by the son of Blaze's friend in Feb 1989 during a drunken argument or fight at their house. dead at 39 and a guy who wrote great music but lived an interesting, not so traditional life. sad story of a very talented dude who was taken way too early. check out John Prine's cover of CLAY PIGEONS (another Blaze tune).

  • @Gauleyriver

That may have been Bo Ramsey on guitar - but I'm not sure.

Google him - his music is awesome, he's also produced albums for her.

  • I like sining this song, it is from 'car wheels on a gravel road" I have the new version which is double cd. Her style still keeps the country spirit unlike so many newcomers that don't retain that spirit but have crossed over or or too young to appreciate roots music

  • ohh romantic

  • Don't overlook Blaze Foley videos. There are only a few. He never released an album in his short lifetime.

  • for you jr-true talent-missed

  • Lucinda-loved meeting you at mountain stage with your friend scott-great kick ass band!!!!!!

  • Lucinda Williams is a vessel

  • This is great stuff - Love It

    Da Crowbar....

  • A good tribute to a great song writer. I recently discovered Blaze and I'm better for it. Check out "Oval Room"!

  • absolutely adore this song when I was little I would make my mom play it over and over for me :)

  • I love her songs! My names Lucinda too xD

  • THE BEST!!!! MR SWEDEN

  • this lady knows the science of emotional manipulation

  • "science of emotional manipulation" Very interesting view of this song much less the rst of her stuff. Have to think about that defintion. Pretty insightful. Mixes it pretty good with melodies to boot !!!!

  • Yea Haw! seapro..........u hit it right on the head!

  • wasn't me tommy. I got the "phrase" from cympltun who posted a month ago.

  • SUPER CHILL!!!

Lucinda Williams is an artist for the ages, period, end of story.

    Cheers!

    FrankC32

  • She makes Cheryl Crow look like a crack whore.

  • @badtele, that is LOL shit, I love it!

    And I respect Ms. Crow!

    Lucinda RULES!!!

    Cheers!

    -SuperBoy32-

  • Yes! And Joan Jett .................... well, _!

  • @badtele You are right. Sheryl Crows album "Tuesdayt Night Music Club" really was a freaking AWESOME album. After that, NOTHING. Pure Top 40 pop nonsense. But hey, she made ALOT of money.

Sheryl Crow isnt even on the same level as Lucinda. Lucinda is the REAL DEAL.

  • @badtele crack whores are people too.

  • @badtele dig lucinda but c'mon bro sheryl jams for what she does... hate is bad for the environment

  • Fabulous. -BAC

  • great song writer

  • Fucking great tune from a fucking great looking woman.

  • There was a whole slew of Korean-made Danelectro reissues in the late '90s, including a 12-string. I think that's one of those.

  • Well, that 12 string does indeed look like a Danelectro U2. Could be. But I would venture to guess it is a Jerry Jones- a US company that specializes in making very high quality hand crafted "tributes" (for lack of a better word)-to the old Dano's.

  • I'd like to know where Kenny Vaughn got that 12 string Danelectro -- looks like a U2, except that I can't find any record of Danelectro producing a 12 string version.

Also-Lucinda has been quoted in concert as saying this song is about Townes Van Zandt--must depend on how she's feeling at any given moment.

  • some kinda saviour, singing the blues

  • drink loads smoke loads n jump of a building see if you can fly...great song!!!

  • This song breaks my heart.

  • please don't drink.

  • i want to be her drunk angel

  • You have to have talent first of all and second, you gotta be at least good looking for a babe like Williams to at least be interested. Other than that keep blacking out like the rest of us losers.

  • Like Maggie May

  • What a great song about a great man!

  • Sounds like Rod Stewart

  • for the the the the the the the the the the lords sake avoid the lice re past posts!!!!!!

  • beware the lice for he lords sake!!! great song and performance .....I love you Lucinda

  • Don't forget Doug Sahm!

  • Thank You !

  • I 'm thinking you mean Steve Steve Earl ?

    or some one else?

  • @DustyPigeons they are artists

  • lucinda is my hero!!

  • Blaze Foley sounds as though he was quite a character.

  • I'd always thought this song was about Gram Parsons. You learn something new all the time.

    Great song, at any rate.

  • is this the greatest voice in the world ?

  • You know I love music and chick singers

especially. You may be very close to correct. Heavenly voice! Just enough angst.

  • Wow, just realized she stole Maggie May opening riff.

  • Sure....if by "stole" you mean that they both coincidentally use a 12-string guitar on the lead-in...then yes.

  • No. It;s the same chord progression, basically.

  • MPT is putting her one tonoite. Wonder how much she paid them

  • Arrrgggh

  • Does anyone know who the guitarist is to her left , our right ?Black hair and black glasses. great guitarist , cant find his name anywhere.

  • his name is Kenny Vaughan i think

  • thanks , saw them in Chicago when this album came out, friggin great!

  • YEP and Now you can see him everytime you tune into the Grand Ole Opry Live! I guess it's steady work & pay check but he sure looks funny in his Sky Blue Rhinestone suit after seeing him play with Lucinda's band for so long! Definitely a Great Guitarist, loved seeing him jam when Lucinda would introduce him.Now it;s just Back Up but with him being soTall & thin, the Rhinestone suit does nothing for him but make him look stiff,Poor Guy!

  • Just to the right of the above video screen is a section called (more info). Click on that. :)

  • @Mouldytone

    Kenny Vaughan. He's incredible.

  • @OLEGNAMIJ

I think it's Kenny Vaughan who use to play with her and he now plays with Marty Stewart.

  • Certainsongs just beg for a smokey bar and a beer. I can not listen to this song without thinking of people I miss. No angels, but plenty of drunks. Bartender! One more.
