This isn't exactly true--Yes, we screwed the Indians, but not initially. It was actually the indians who attacked first, but they didn't have a choice--the pilgrims unintentionally brought over many diseases that started killing off their population. Once the indians figured out the "white man" was the cause of their new deaths, they had no choice but to try and wipe them out. Horrible misunderstandings on both sides, we just ended up being the winners.
I can honestly say this was my favorite part of the whole movie. I am of scottish/english decent and my husband is Native American. We don't celebrate thanksgiving the European way. We have more of a rememberence meal only serving what REALLY would have been available at that time...venison or some wild poultry, grains, etc....and not because of the Pilgrims, but in honor of those who actually provided the food that saved them.

I love Thanksgiving, mostly because of the food but also because of the irony that a whole nation celebrates the slaughter of thousands of natives. It's almost like celebrating the Holocaust but of course the mainstream media won't give it to you that way

This isn't exactly true--Yes, we screwed the Indians, but not initially. It was actually the indians who attacked first, but they didn't have a choice--the pilgrims unintentionally brought over many diseases that started killing off their population. Once the indians figured out the "white man" was the cause of their new deaths, they had no choice but to try and wipe them out. Horrible misunderstandings on both sides, we just ended up being the winners.

I can honestly say this was my favorite part of the whole movie. I am of scottish/english decent and my husband is Native American. We don't celebrate thanksgiving the European way. We have more of a rememberence meal only serving what REALLY would have been available at that time...venison or some wild poultry, grains, etc....and not because of the Pilgrims, but in honor of those who actually provided the food that saved them.

Most Native Americans not the "white -washed ones", View the holiday as a national day of mourning. To them, Thanksgiving justifies the genocide of indigenous peoples and agrees with ideas of White supremacy

@Kingsta2000 That is true. And Native Americans has gone by the way of redskins, Injuns, braves, and Indians. Most of them prefer to be referred to by their tribe without any American identification. This is because white settlers estabished the colonies that later became America and later the USA. There are also blacks who are now chosing African descent over African American because of the slavery issue.
