my neighbor has two arcade cabinets in his driveway with a sign that says "free", one is a snk cab in not so good condition, the other is a double dragon 3: Rosetta Stone cabinet with move list and marquee in decent condition, they dont have coin slots or monitors but the double dragon possibly has the jamma board. I was wondering if its worth taking them and how much would it cost to restore them. Please respond thanks.
@xquickstrykex Yeah man, I'd at least take the DD cabinet, especially if it has the board in it. A used monitor for that will cost you anywhere between 60 and 150 dollars depending on who you contact to get it. Some people have tons of those monitors sitting around and don't mind giving them up cheap. The coin door will run you about 25 used or 100 new. Get out the phonebook, check with old arcade operators, check with places that have arcades and ask for their service techs number.
@brettybluevein the DD board looks dusty and its just sitting inside the cabinet so I guess theres a possibility that it doesnt work, im not to sure how much it will cost new or if I do take it, how much profit I can make out of it, I asked the lady about it and all she said was, "my husband cant use it", dont know if that means that its broken or what.
@xquickstrykex Well here's the deal, take it and you can at least figure out if it works, then if it doesn't and you don't wanna spend money repairing it, you can set it back out at the curb. Where exactly is this DD cabinet anyway? ;)
I'm researching building my own cab and I was wondering what software would you put in to decide what game you'll be playing? As in SF3 instead of say Pac-Man or Donkey Kong.
If you can find a CPS-III system to put in, you'll have the option of placing any of the SF3 games, plus 3 other titles that used the system, for a total of 6 games. If you decide to go with a more simple setup, you can get either a 48 in 1, or a 60 in 1 JAMMA board, but it's gonna be all classics....pac man, galaga, donkey kong etc. I don't like MAME, which is basically a computer running all the games, just happens to have arcade controls hooked to it. Any questions let me know.
Got it from a lady that was selling off an entire collection of arcades. She was gonna open an arcade herself but never got around to it, so I got this for $300!
Hardly burn any electricity at all as long as you turn them off when you're not playing them. I did the math, and where I live it costs about 20 cents per hour for each machine. That's cheap.
All depends on how you do it. Some MAME emulators are hard to run correctly, but if you get a JAMMA board that's like a 48-in-1, those run pretty smoothly.
do a google search for "48 in 1 pcb" and that will be a good start. If you plan on building a machine, I'd highly suggest using a premade set of plans, don't try to design your own, the measurements are extremely difficult.
Thats a great deal! I got mine for 300 and then I had to go in and redo the joysticks and buttons. Cost me like 95 dollars for all the parts and stuff, but we play the crap out of it. Buy that one for $295!!!
It's relatively easy to replace joysticks and buttons. Lighting requires just a small amount of technical knowledge, and monitor stuff is certainly the most challenging. I don't do much besides adjust the monitors on my games. FYI!! Monitors carry a lot of voltage in the back so please be careful if you chooseto service one yourself.
I have this one, a Simpsons 4 player, a Cruis'n USA sit down, a Ms. Pacman, a Mortal Kombat 2 dedicated, a Carnival original cabinet (from 1980), and I bought a pinball machine called Bally Game Show but it needs a little work to be fully playable again.
Are you gonna turn that into a MAME or just keep it as a Street fighter 3? Either way very very cool although street fighter 3rd strike would be awesome to have as well
I know man, but I've looked all over the net and there's no 3rd strike kits available. I'd rather have 3rd strike for all the characters since this only has 10.
@adidas1984x...I can take more, any requests on what to focus on? I want to make my own side art as well since this game never had any, but I can't really find any pics that are hi-res enough to translate well to large format. Any suggestions? Are you a collector yourself? I'm getting a sit down Cruisin USA at some point this week and I'll do a video on that as well.
