I have seen this many times before specifically i remember seeing it all the time at one of the Black mountain level crossings on the Norfolk Southern Rail line from Asheville to Marion and points east. I wondered if it was a good thing or not at the time.
Fascinating. I wonder how much of this the track and ballast can take before it needs attention. Maybe someone with technical expertise will tell us this is supposed to happen with these steele sleepers and heavy ballast?

after 6 months of use a new rail line will be checked and packed where needed....Thank god for babcock
