He also balanced the Serbian kingdom's hegemonistic aspirations, giving a much needed republic for the Macedonian Slavs (Bulgaria and Greece were the main "enemies" at the time.. wanting to homogenize the Macedonians to the appropriate nation) The damn Balkans were a mess after the fall of the Ottoman.
