I love my moras .. Cut like a laser . I bent my beloved mora 2000 battening some red ceder . I never thought I would . I plain forgot my heavy machete (Florida). I put a slight bent in the tip ... Nothing u could not bent back . My moras are for slicing , cutting and poking only .. Heck .. It is a featherweight knife. Easily the best knife for the price on this planet !
more confident after making my own shank before a trust a cheap Mora. Give me thick steel springs and a few hours in a metal shop. Blue the finish and paracord the handle. In a survival situation you chopping on a Mora can badly cut you or another person. Fuck that.
@southernsecurity moras are not for heavy work such as batoning. its really for cutting, and handy work. thery're great knives if you use them for the right job. you wouldn't use toilet paper for a job that you would normally use paper towel for, but the toilet paper will still save your ass in most conditions. ; )
@southernsecurity I have actually found Moras to be well designed and durable knives.... I guess you have never really owned one. Check out this : Mora Clipper Destruction Test Part 1 and also look at Part 2. Might make you change your mind..... And good idea on the leaf springs, i fancy using a simple lawnmower blade myself. ;)
@JayByrd319 and you know what ppl seem to not realize over and over is that my videos are focused more on survival WITHOUT all the prpoer tools but learning to get by on very little or nothing. I just bought a book titled Wildwood Wisdom that goes back to survival as it was long ago when we didnt have modern equipment. These "mountain men" went into the wild frontier with nothimg but a knife and very little else.
@johnboyrebel27 EXACTLY and i bet they survived. i belive you can survive without proper gear. i bet you i can go out into the woods "like the people in that book/magizen) and can survive longer then a person with a firstaid kit a axe and all i would have is my ka-bar by my side
how about drilling a couple of holes in the naked blade then bolting the wood to the blade with the bolts flush with the wood and chopping of the left overs stronger you think
@CanItAlready Good article. I always suspected technique as well as the failures always seem to happen once the spine is to far within the wood to baton it, leaving only the tip or handle exposed. His fulcrum theory makes a lot of sense.
i keep messing up on writing all i have to say,my head is not in the right place.i also have a mora though and it's tang is short, the 840mg,love it but still wish it had the full tang-even if it was a thin strip to the back.the handle would be less likely to crack if you use it as a log splitter with baton
@johnboyrebel27 I was looking at that one, and instead went with the 911, the only difference I could tell from the website was that the handle seemed slightly smaller... but it just seemed to flow better given the width of the blade. Does it still have full tang?
nice fast knife vid! i like the cedar, nice color. unfortunately, i dont have any ceder up here where i live, well, not within walking distance. looks like a good knife, hope it lasts longer then the other one! moras are great knives but we all have to remember, there only 10 or 12 bucks. there not indestructable, they can only take so much battoning, thats how mine broke too, but once you make one handle, the others you make are a lot easier!5/5
Your better off making a new handle depending on how long the tang is. Some of the more inexpensive models have short tangs. It's a good thing that they're inexpensive.
Yeah I watch all of your videos. I like the simplicity of your skills and knowledge. I really like the idea of being able to know how to fix and repair my gear out in the bush. Thanks alot mate!!!
I am really not trying to be a smart ass, but why would you use the Mora to split the wood instead of the hatchet? I see a lot of videos of guys doing this with their knives and was just wondering why?
well good question there my friend... at the time the hatchet was elsewhere, at another location altogether. i used the knife because it seemed a good way to test it out. I was not surprised to see it break, it's pretty commonplace for a Mora's handle to go well before the blade. Of course that's just what I have seen anyways. thanks for the comment.
Why not just remove it and put a wood handle on it? thats what I would do.. most moras have cheap handles on it they talking about the blade not breaking not the handle..
well I did put a wood handle on it as you can see in the video......I have seen many videos where the handle has been modified (self-made), so I am assuming that is commonplace with the handle.
I posted it befor I watched to the end of the video if the handle breaks off agian dirll the blade and add a brass rod between it and the wood handle then jbweld it back agian. Just add some light varnish or something to water proof the handle and it should look really nice.. use a light one because its a nice peice of wood on it...
I made an all wood cuting board black oak and oak wood put like 10 coats on it 10 years latter after heavy use I just have to sant id down a bit and will look like new because the varnish soaks into the wood a bit as well.. Its a solf wood but should hold up fine and you should feel the vibrations of the blade when you hit something as much with wood it seems to take alot of it out
Man That Sucks! I hope You can fix it. Check out the 711, Or the 711G they have a better Handle and the tang is alot longer on those models. I think they are Running $12 I hope you have better luck

Thats why I say time and time again moras are not a good "only" survival knife, you still need a chopper.

Hey, I guess you didn't hit the HANDLE with the wood did you? If you are battoning, you should hit the blade :)

I really love wood carving with Moras. Thanks for the video and explanation. I no longer worry about breaking my Mora.

i hate when people say "well why dont you use an axe" using knives are alot more fun then axes. Knives are alot more challenging.

Here in Sweden, Mora knifes are disposable knifes... you use em until their dull or they brake, then you throw them away...

too bad mora dosen't make full tang blades or they would be even more popular as long as they stay cheap
