@circuitdesign Sarah McLachlan originally wrote it when she saw a story about a woman who's husband was dying of AIDS, and because Sarah was inspired by her strength, she penned this song. But regardless the song has been transformed into a healing grace and shared with all circumstances. I believe THE ANSWER might have been written for a friend with cancer, that is one heavy song to grasp with your heart.

I listened to this song four months ago when my husband/best friend was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. I cried and played it over and over while he slept. We knew we had very little time. Now that he's gone, I listen to this song and I'm grateful that I got to have such a love in my life, despte the loss. Sarah has put into words and music the way it really feels... I would never have been able to create such a perfect expression of the love and the loss. Thank you...

Sarah's music,for me, bypasses my thinking and speaks only to my heart and soul. She is an amazing singer, songwriter, and so beautiful. I find most of my friends who have never really "heard" her music-end up being loyal fans like I have been since I was introduced to "Fumbling towards Ecstacy".

I had a bestfriend with cancer. He went into remission for 2 years. It came back in his lungs and would not respond to chemotherapy. I listen to this song and think of him. It breaks ny heart everytime I listen to it. I also find some sort of peace in my heart. This is a beautiful song as are all of her songs!

When I saw her sing this song in concert... I cried.  This song hits me like no other. I lost my father in 1987, I was 12. It was the hardest thing I ever went through. I'm thankful for RED and songs like this that brings awareness. I was alone and hurting when he was sick. Then he passed away. This song reminds me of how I felt when I was 12 years old. It's been over 20 years. Love you Dad!!

I Love Sarah so this is not an attack in any way shape or form. The studio version is a total emotional experience that I believe is lost here. For those that love the live version I totally respect that. I just get something out of the song that is not conveyed in this live version and I think it has to do with the band as Sarah has complete control in the studio. Wow, where did all the artists go. I miss when music was like this.

Sorry I must disagree, I love this live version way better than the cd version. It has more emotion to it with the drums and background music. The first version made me want to go AGGH! and yes the pause at the end is for dramatic effect.
