  • The things The Nostalgia Critic said about this movie, I will never forgive him, and in fact I hope his worthless show goes down the toilet. He's a total hack.

  • Yes, we get it. Avatar ripped off this movie... but if I may... I'm a child of the 90's who a-freaking-dored this movie as a kid and i also loved Avatar. Can't was all just agree that they are both good? Even if Avatar kinda borrowed the plot.

  • It's Avatar, fairy style!

  • james cameron doesn't have an original bone in his body.

  • This movie came out in 1992. (probably made between 1988-1991

  • stfu about avatar ripping off this, phonocaust and dances with the wolves, we all know that by now, you could say any movie ripped of something from some movie, the point is, the message was far more implicit in avatar and it got acros to much more people, avatar had a message to the world, it was the first movie of it's kind ever to be taken so seriously, what's next? saying saving private ryan was ripped off from the history books?

  • GOD, AVATAR TOTALLY RIPPED THIS OFF!!!

  • This movie means a lot for me especially during my childhood days . And now for almost 19 years searching looking for answer what was that movie title........... Now i found the answer thanks to Google and thanks for uploading this video its means a lot.................for me.

  • why do I hear Joe's (from family guy) laugh?... twice

  • this movie used to give me nitemares.....i miss the 90s

  • OMG, I remember this film when i was like 7. my class had a dinner party and we were watching this film.

Back then, I didn't know the name of it, but now 18 years later I finally found it.

  • what is that one movie with the little animals who live in a forest. they then get attacked by human construction workers who are ruining the forest? it came out in 1990s

  • @SuperMsChardonnay

    The Animals of Farthing Wood

  • @SuperMsChardonnay Once upon a Forest. I think.

  • I remember my mom taking me to see this. I loved it! And Batty was my favorite character :)

  • Hmm ... now i know where Avatar got the idea from .

  • Oh dear god you have no idea how long I've been looking for this and how many memories are flooding back to me know! I use to watch this all the time on YTV! Thank you so much for uploading this!

  • Avatar ripped this movie off

  • I used to love this!

  • today i watched this movie and i remmebred all good old days and i fuckin cried and cried and now i feel bit fine i mean people go ahead cry this movie and alike worth every tear

  • OMG!!! i was only 12 when i watched this movie!

  • A lot of people think this is a Don Bluth film. It's not, but Robin Williams in a Don Bluth film would be awesome!

  • I'm almost 23 and I am going to curl up in bed and watch this. I use to love this movie!

  • i thought i remember avatar having better graphics than this... oh wait.

  • Google ABCNews reportage called Paper/Tiger - Ferngully in REALITY: An environmental travesty and an ecological Armageddon. Watch the video, folks.

  • avatar?

  • The title of this movie would probably tell you that it's an environmental film. "Ferngully: the LAST Rainforest."

  • SAVE THE RAINFORREST! BE A TREE HUGGER!!!! jokes, but it is important!

  • ahhh my childhood good old days love this movie

  • dush bag avatar stole this idea but added weird hair sex

  • @markpriceable

    youtube (DOT) com/watch?v=n2lF5xD-K94&feature=related

  • you guys are losers, and anyone who says that avatar is like fern gully is more insane then I previously thought.

  • OMG, I so wnat to watch this movie again. I think I've seen in a LONG time ago when I was really little^^ I vagely remember it. esspecially the bat and that female fairy. I'm gonne watch it again soon when I have time :)

  • Old school avatar!! This movie was great! Took me a long time to find it but I'm so glad I did! Ah the good ol days!

  • This was my favourite movie as a kid!

  • my goddd, this is literally my childhood it's madness

  • @kurumilover2003 omg! me too!! i grew up on this movie! and right now, I AM getting goosebumps too.

  • So many goosebumps right now it's ridiculous. This movie = my childhood.

  • James Cameron how dare you rip-off my childhood and i'm such a big fan of terminator

  • Heavily underrated Disney film

  • FINALY AFTER SO MANY YEARS OF SEARCHING :D god bless u man

  • its a good movie and all but do you reckon that the americans could have at least gone to the trouble of giving zac and the other workers australian accents. i was like really confused when i watched this movie from my childhood and i couldent understand wether it was in america or australia

  • @tommygun641 I live just near Mt Warning, and I remember as a kid my parents bemoaning the fact that they didn't promote that the film was set near a real place. It could have helped the local tourism industry.

  • 3 people want to profit off the exploitation of Ferngully!

  • i dont know why but as soon as it said "the last rainforest" i started crying.

  • Aww.

  • They don't make great movies like this anymore....Shame...

  • @GamingTilDawnStudios They actually make a bunch of films better than this nowadays

  • The original Avatar but better.

  • Avatar would had been funnier if Batty suddenly showed up.

  • the acid rain song in this movie always made me wonder..if chocolate rain was a rip off. o and the fairy chick is hott

  • Haha, this is on HBO right now...ima watch me some ferngully.

  • Yes Avatar did borrow some elements of Ferngully and Cameron also borrowed from Heavy Metal, Dune, Star Wars, Last of the Mohicans, Princess Mononoke, Willow, Nausicaa of the Valley of the WInd (aka Warriors of the Wind), Pom Poko, Castle in The Sky (aka Laputa), Fantastic Planet, My Neighbor Totoro, LightYears (Gandahar), Starchaser Legend of Orin and Wizards by Ralph Bakshi but it was still a great movie.

Anyone else thinks Avatar is also similar to those movies i mentioned?

  • @Johnlindsey289 and Pocahontas. He borrowed from everything. That's why it was good!

  • @rome34

Have you seen any of the movies i mentioned especially Ghibli stuff like Castle in The Sky? Ferngully is also kind of like Peter Pan meets Nausicaa and was inspired by them

  • robin williams!!!

  • I guess the story does look just like Avatar... I haven't watched Fern Gully before.

  • @Lily201186

    Except Avatar is for adults

  • This was always a bit of a wierd movie with oil monsters and really freaky bats that sound like (Alladins) Genie..but it was always one of those movies that you remebered but NEVER remembered the name! and couldn't name any of the characters!"

  • Avatar was not a remake of FernGully; it was a remake of Pocahontas. Unlike FernGully, Avatar is more about societal forces than about the environment. Then again, all three have similar elements, though I like to think that Pocahontas is between the two other films along the environment-to-society gradient.

  • @MissPoplarLeaf

Avatar was written in 1993 and Pocahontas was released in 1995, don't people ever do their research? Cameron didn't film his movie rightaway and put his script in a drawer and had to wait until technology does justice to his vision.

  • i love this movie os much im 14 and i still love it!!! i always will!!!!

  • such a good movie :D

  • the second i seen avatar i knew it was a rip off of ferngully sad but that seems to be the thing nobody seems to remember the orginal anymore so hey just make a remake and add more stuff to it.plus it sells more now cuz people care more about the earth and global warming

  • @MrLeatherface2783

    Except Avatar is for adults

  • And one more thing…James Cameron maid up avatar before Furngully. So stop saying this movie is like Avatar!

  • Avatar was not a remake of this.

  • @ladyhawkdi

    well, lets see

both movies have that rainforest story where the big bad humans come to cut down the trees

both movies have a male character where they turn into some mystical creature and go around with the female lead

may not be a remake, but its what i call, A FUCKING UNORIGINAL RIPOFF

u could call it a remake for that

  • this was one of my favourite movies as a kid!

  • Was that Robin Williams voicing the dragon/bat thing? (Robin Williams is a legend)

  • I have the DVD from it, its really strange..i never saw this film, but i love so movies like this...so im so excited to watch it :D

  • omg I love this movie and batty =D

  • Holy crap, I've seen this! Forgot all about this movie! I only have vague memories of it, though.

  • Ive always hated this movie

  • "How can you live without trees?"

  • kinda like avatar, dont you think???

  • i loooooooved watching this when i was a kid

  • @wigglychickenable - me too! I could remember the evil guy and the creature but i didnt know the name of the film until i saw it in a shop recently! :D Thank goodness for YT !

  • My name is zach.....and my best friend's is Krista. This is awesome.

  • @ZachGarmoe woot, glad im a Zach as well

  • I shat bricks

  • i miss kids movies with really good morals like this (not saying that there isnt any now) but the older ones were better produced and more thought provoking

  • What? Avatar is original? HA!

  • wow,i actually remember the weird flying guy!!

i liked him, he was cool!!

...maybe that's why genie's voice from aladdin sounded so familiar...?

  • Sears has this movie (dvd) on sale for 5 bucks, and some others too like Nemo in Slumberland. But I don't know if that's only in certain stores or not. :/

  • whats that tune with the french horns or whatever ..... i love it!!! respond as soon as you know ! ha i love this trailer so much i dont what it does but it makes me well up with such a powerful and nostalgic and emptional feeling :D, thumbs this if you agree :)

  • haha, I only just realised how similar Avatar is too this!

  • @DanDaSimmer yeah I kinda noticed that too, but hell if you look at She's All That (1999) you can pretty much draw the same comparisons. Guy meets girl and he has an agenda, guy falls in love with girl and forgets the agenda, girl finds out gets pissed, guy does some romantic type bullshit to win her back, THE END. It's all the same in the end but yeah this was still an awesome movie loved tim curry and robin williams (why the fuck has he stopped doing voice rolls? It's his best stuff!)

  • @AColonDashSix I totally agree with you!

yeah, Robin is the best at voicing roles!

  • SUCK GOOD MEMORIES.

  • is the movie coming this easter i nice fainely i can get et on video

  • I remember the villain at the end of the movie used to scare the Crap out of me! I think I'm finally ok with it now... I Think D: lol

I remember running and hiding under the table cuz i was scared XD

  • James Cameron needs to pay

  • thumb my comment up if you think this movie is great :)

  • This movie was the main source of inspiration for James Cameron's Avatar, even though he'll never admit it!!

  • MEMORIESSS!! im gonna watch this

  • i remember watching this along time ago and i though it was great. now when i watch avatar im like this is sort of the same thing lol. oh well avatar was really great so was fern gully.

  • Didn't I just see a live action movie of this called "Avatar"?

  • Seeing this now it's clear how early we're being fed propaganda. I bought into that enviro-nut bullshit hook line and sinker as a child because of this movie. I grew out of it but clearly some people don't.

  • @SpecialFester I'm with you.

  • I dont know if anyone of you remembered it, but this movie more or less a copy of Avatar... Think about it, the machines, the romance scene when they dance in the water and so on... At least I think so.

  • @AnnaJos89 ferngully was made in 1992, so avatar copied ferngully

  • First of all, Ferngully Sucked. The animation was second rate and the musicals in it were terrible.

Second, stop saying Avatar is a copy of this movie. Similar in some ways? Yes, but that's all. Similarities in movies have always been around. You think Star Wars is an original? Take a film history class and you'll discover that it was similar to a Japanese Film called The Hidden Fortress

  • @ruffrydin10 oh shut up.

  • @ruffrydin10 cept avatar also sucked. just sayin.

  • @ruffrydin10

HEY THIS MOVIE DID NOT SUCK!

  • This movie is a true classic.

  • Tim Curry and Robin Williams were both great in this film.

  • well this movie reminds me of avatar and hayo`s princess monoke.^^

    I love this classic movie.

  • Culd someone upload the whole movie please?

  • haaa i knew avatar reminded me of something when i was a child.

then i watched this and thought "oh my god. this is exactly like avatar"

then i was going to make a comment about it and almost everyone has said it already!

avatar is also a bit like pocahontas..

this film was my favourite thing in the world at one stage!

  • this is exactly like avatar

  • @bubblegum4please no, Avatar is exactly like this. This came waaaaaay before Avatar.

  • loved this movie when i was younger, was trying to remember exactly what it was called, and when it was made. i use to watch it on video tape. I LOVED IT

  • This movie IS ALOT BETTER THAN AVATAR

  • I remember this from when I was a baby :)

  • Thinks it's awesome that trailers have gotten so much better over the years. Look at Avatar; same kind of message, kick-ass trailer!

  • I think the thing that this movie really dragged me in was the score. Does anyone else feel the fame? (and Batty was awesome! :))

  • OMG .... Its all coming back to me, Robin Williams as the flying thing. My big sis used to watch this all the time with her mates and I used to tag along. AVATAR is this. Front to back Inside out, ha no way how did he get away with it. Now I can completely understand why he didn't get an Oscar. LMFAO

  • This is The REAL AVATAR! only a foOL would doubt this! i use to love this movie lol

  • @wiggleychickenable me too!

  • Avatar was the remake of this.

    RiDICKulous.

  • @DarkHollowProduction you certainly aren't the first to make this observaton

  • @DarkHollowProduction nah Avatar was this mixed with Halo

  • @DarkHollowProduction

And which is a better movie? Avatar or Ferngully?

  • @DarkHollowProduction no it was NOT!!!! Avatar is awesome! This is seriously trippy, and it has Robin Williams playing a drugged up Bat!

  • Avatar: The Laster Rainforest

  • Ahh I finally found this film! I had vivid memories of this movie as a child but could never remember what it was called.:D

  • @wigglychickenable hahahahhaha same thing !! :D im soo overjoyed that i found out, i wanna watch it again :D

  • SAAMEE!! ive always remembered the story, but i could NEVER remember the name! :') Such good memories

  • SAAMME! :O ive always remembered the voices and story of this film but could never remember its name! brings back such great childhood memories, it teared me up. such a great film! :D :')

  • @wigglychickenable yeah, me too . i was seeing avatar the other day. and i was like i think i saw a movie like this once so i typed in google movies about forest destruction like avatar and this was the first one that popped in. and i was like this is the one! i'm so glad i finally found it. hope you enjoyed too !

  • @wigglychickenable Me too! I found it via the chive, it make me way too happy when I gound it lol

  • This reminds me alot of The land before time, was it made by the same director or something?

  • I see no difference in this film and avatar they are both by the same company but I see no resembalance.

  • @pixargod how can you say you "see no difference" and "you see no resemblance" at the same time? you're contradicting yourself ;)

  • lol

  • @Nahyacita

I'm just saying that I don't think that avatar and ferngully are the same film even though they are both by the same company.

  • o my god! I love this film!

  • 0:34-0:42

hahaha i remember laughing so hard as a kid xD

  • pure avatar

  • its all coming back to me now... we did this in year 2 as a project thing and worksheets about the movie..

  • 0:47 - 0:50 is just like avatar :)
