I loved that your first daughter was there with you. What a great job you did. Thank you for sharing. I am watching beautiful, gentle home-births as my husband and I are planning for our 2nd child. I need positive re-inforcement like this!
Cassie was my midwife for the birth of my second baby just this June - AMAZING experience at MMC! I didn't get video of my baby's birth because he came so fast, but watching yours brought tears to my eyes with the sweet memories. Thank you for sharing.
This is sooo beautiful. I just found out that I am pregnant and a water birth is what I want sooo badly. I also live in CO and plan on going to mountain midwifery.
What do you mean? The light cuts out in a few places, the camcorder light kept going out, but you can see her head coming out if you're patient enough ;)
Haha! Well, thank you. I just cut the part out where I screamed "GET OUT OF MY BODY!!!"....I guess that's what 16 hours of labor will do to ya, lol! But thank you very much!
You did really good, I wanted to do water birth but was too hot when I was in the water. But you didn't scream as much as me!!! lol great job you made it look easy.
You are beautiful! Your daughters are beautiful! And you did such a wonderful job! My daughter Caleena was born at MMC in that very room with Tracy as our midwife! That was back in Dec '07 though. It brought back a lot of beautiful memories, thanks for sharing.
You're going to do GREAT! I totally understand the fear though :) With my first I felt like I was on a roller coaster inching its way to the top, about to plunge, you know? But it is absolutely possible to have a wonderful birth experience! Know your rights and your options, you'll do fabulous! Blessings...
CONGRATS TO YOU TOO! :) I totally understand your fear, but women have been doing this for eons. If you do your homework and choose a responsible caregiver who believes that birth is inherently normal and a place to birth that is comfortable to you you should be fine! Just let go and let the process happen, let it get big. Beautiful name by the way!
Also by the way of preparation, my favorite books are "Thinking Woman's Guide to a Better Birth" by Henci Goer, "Gentle Birth Choices" by Barbara Harper, "The Birth Book" and "The Pregnancy Book" by Dr. Sears, and "Birthing From Within" by Pam England.
Great movies are "The Business of Being Born", "Orgasmic Birth", "Birth Day" (Naoli Vinaver), and "Birth as We Know It"
Yeah, we had one hospital, one birth center, and whenever we get pregnant again we're totally staying home as well! Never want to be in labor in the car ever AGAIN. Give your kids a smooch for me!
That was a beautiful birth. I love how your daughter was right there in the water giving you love and support. You did an amazing job. Congratulations on your new daughter.
Thanks! Yeah, they called Haven the "mini midwife" because she literally POURED over my preg books. She would say, "Uterus squeeeze the baby out the yoni into the water and baby comes out in the water and nurses and gets all dry dry....that's what's gonna happen!" she was very involved! Thanks for your comment, it's nice to know that people like it! I just wanted to share our great experience at the birth center. People need to know that there are awesome births out there!
That is just darling! I have had two hospital births, one birth center birth and if there are any more babies for us we will birth at home. :) I can imagine your older daughter gave you much strength. I was able to gather strength from my older children during my last birth.
This was so amazing! I am having my first baby, due July 22nd 09. Im very excited but I desperately want to have the baby in a birthing center. Is there any advice you would give? The Doctor I went to see kind of tried to discourage me when I said that I wanted to, so it was weird.
Thanks, I'm glad you like it! I definitely loved the birth center!!! Next time I'm staying home though, don't want to be in the car during labor ever again :) Don't let your Dr intimidate you. A lot of OBs see birth as a catastrophe waiting to happen instead of a natural process. That said, a lot of them are afraid of any out of hospital births, even though statistically they are shown to be just as safe as hospital births, with a much lesser instance of interventions.
ACOG (American College of OB and GYN) has put forth many statements saying that out of hospital births are unsafe. It's important to realize that ACOG is first and foremost a trade union concerned with the income and employment of their members. I would also say that I had an OB with my first (almost 3 yrs) and the difference between most OBs and most midwives is astounding. I did the math and realized that I had spend a total of 30 minutes with my OB during pregnancy and birth combined.
With the midwives at the birth center each appointment was at least 30-45 minutes long. They not only counseled me about nutrition and preventative care, but also about my emotional well being, the well being of my family, etc. At my OBs office I was in and out in 5 minutes...pee in a cup, step on a scale, listen to baby, blood pressure, you're outta there.
The atmosphere at a birth center is wonderful as well. It's like a mini B&B! It was so homey and wonderful. We decided to go with the birth center instead of home because of money issues since the insurance covered the birth center. But with some people's healthcare plans sometimes it works out to be cheaper to pay a birth center in full. The average birth in a hospital (in Denver) where there are no interventions, drugs, anything, just vaginal birth, costs $12-13,000!!
How truly beautiful. I am training to be a doula and watching your inspiring video helps me believe that there is a better way over managed hospital births. Thank you!
Am planning to be at home. My midwife is lovely, she inspires confidence - I think she'll be directive enough and yet not too bossy for me... It's been so inspiring watching birth videos on u tube and watching women in control of their experience and making it peaceful and calm
That's awesome, we're totally planning to have our next at home. LOVED the birth center but just don't want to ever be in the car in labor again :) I watched a lot of videos on youtube too, along with my daughter (who's 2 and loved them). She recently shocked someone standing behind me in line at Target saying, "Mommy, I want to watch a baby being born!" lol
BEAUTIFUL!! :**) Thank you so much for sharing the miracle of little Lyric's water birth~truly amazing. My Granddaughter is due to arrive via natural water birth any day now~your experience furthers my belief this is the most wonderful way to bring a child into the world. May God bless you ALL!!
Awh, shucks, thanks! The birth center was great! We were actually just there today getting labs drawn for #3, although we're going the home birth route this time. So exciting! I hope you have a fantastic birth!
