i've spent all night watching your videos... along with simon's, so hypnotizing. i'm a painter but i really want to give this a try. i'm a world class yoyoer (lol) so i have some hand skills. is there anyplace to get a cheap manual wheel that is less then 100 bucks? i just wanna try, can't drop the money on a nice one..
@jakeb One very inexpensive wheel is made using the differentioal of a mini or other small car . . You put a wheel head on the central drive train hookup and when you add belt drive to one wheel the brake on the other side becomes a speed control . I guess thats more then a houndred bucks .. Good liuck finding a kick wheel .. People do give them away for the job of getting them out of their studios.. Look around .. All the best , Guy
Hello , It depends on the wet strength of the particular clay body Im using . If the clay body has a bit more ball clay or say the clay has been made a week or two before using and had an original pugging then yes I can use the fleshly pugged clay with out wedging . Most redart bodies I like giving a little wedge . The bigger pots I will wedge 10 pound balls and add them together on the wheel . A coning in will tell you a lot very quickly !! All the best , Guy
Hey there! I love your videos, and since I am completely obsessed and addicted to throwing, I am envious of your gorgeous studio! Thanks for all the great tips on throwing, and I hope to one day have a studio similar to yours!
Hello. I had a look at your channel and saw you like Jane Austin too. I was listening to Sense And Sensibility this morning .. Thanks again for the visit . I just had a great visit with Simon Leach and all the potters who would come out and watch him work . It was a lot of fun. Yours Guy
Hey Guy, the studio looks great!! I had a good time watching the clip of you and Ben on Martha!!! Great that you were able to get the banjo in there too!!
Wow! That's a lot of clay!!! So when is the show going to air, I can't wait to see it! ;-) Looks like I could put 4 of my sheds in your studio;-) Thank you for the video!
In the old English pottery shops a good journyman potter was expected to throw 20 casts of clay a day .. A cast was 50 pounds so that would be half a ton of clay a day . I am glad to throw 50,000 pounds a year . Thanks for the visit, Yours Guy
Interesting peek at the workshop. I've been meaning to make another blacksmith video, but lately I can' find time to fire up the forge. Have fun in New Hampshire, I'm heading up there soon to look for some real estate.

Very nice studio! I have a pugmill on order, can't wait to get it. Any tips? Do you use your freshly pugged clay without wedging?

What a treat to find you on YouTube - I loved watching you throw at High Mowing when I was a student back in the early 80's.
I have a wonderful salt glazed medieval mug you made for me back then and treasure it dearly.
