If we read the "neighbours" forum (google foro soto de henares )we see plenty have moved in. However quite a few are not happy that the proposed new Metro station isn't going ahead, which makes their commute into Madrid very time-consuming. Roads are full you see. Not quite the ghost area you may have been led to believe by the propaganda

Spain's PM and atheist lady friend Jose Maria Rodriguez Jonnyboy Zapperdoo-Ray has vowed to sell his own trousers to Ecuador to complete this project, which was over six hours in design. Nearly a euro (50quid) of its half a billion grant has already been poured in.

you all don´t know about it. This a new neightbourhood that is beeing built in a city next to Madrid, Torrejón de Ardoz, and the place is called soto del henares, it´s not finished, i´m gonna live there in three months when it´s finished, it´s going to be more than 6.500 flats and houses and a very pretty place with a natural park next to the river.
you may have a little suprise brewing up for you in oz at the moment mate. people worldwide need to stop blaming others. the problem is greed, and the answers can all be found by looking in the mirror.
this is american style development. office parks, strip malls, and cookie cutter homes. It is not sustainable and was based on greed. Look at real estate prices in the center of most cities and you'll see they've actually gone up. Building continually on the edge of the city has created worthless property.
Nothing to worry about. Just need to open up some Starbucks, a few dozen nail salons, frozen yogurt shops, video rental stores, specialty retailers, home decor and kitchenware outlets, and a Baby Gap or two. Problem solved.
It is in Spain. A posterchild for misallocation of resources and stranded capital.
But there are dead developments all over the world. The ones in Salford, Cheetham Hill, Manchester Northern Quarter, I can see looking similar. People hate high density housing, fact of life. Stick a credit bubble on top and you get a sink estate once the developers and first round of buyers go broke.
Talk about misallocation of resources. I know a number of people here in Spain who in spite of repeated warnings, drank the Kool-Aid in 2006 and early 2007. Now, those who still have a job misallocate 50%-65% of their salaries to pay their mortgages.
And did you know that mortgages in this country are RECOURSE - that means no chance of walking away, no chance of moving as they're underwater, and no chance of starting a family because those apartments are tiny. These people are SCREWED FOR LIFE!
It is not only in Madrid. Donald Trump tower in Chicago is also empty and it costs more than the entire neighbourhood shown in the video. The crisis is everywhere, not jus t in Madrid. Get some perspective, and stop blaming everyone.
Britain HAS paid Spain compensation. Bearing in mind most of the new motorways (especially in the south) were all built using handouts from Brussells and that the UK contribution is twelve times that of spain.oh and how many people on the costas made their living from tourism? And from personal experience I know how corrupt local govt officials there are when it comes to demanding "little brown envelopes"
@Fages1 Of course Britons are guilty for the crisis, hosting a bunch of banks, following typical communist policies of sponsoring those banks for their failures and exercising global politics in order to inflict as much damage as possible ot the economies. Britons are also guilty in that they have converted clever ppl that would normally work as clever engineers in neighboring coountries into food salesmen.

That's near Madrid, the British never buy properties around that area, they always go to the costas.
The only responsible for this madness are spaniards (politicians, builders, and buyers).
