Shortly after the second tower collapsed...due to the number of hydrants opened by the firefighters on the scene, we also lost water pressure to the building, leading to fears of losing water altogether. Staff were immediately notified to conserve water...
By 4 p.m. on Tuesday, gas and high-pressure steam had been restored through rerouting by Con Edison.

How did it in any way profit Silverstein? The money is being provided for him to rebuild the WTC complex, and it turns out that's quite expensive ($6.3 billion in April 2006). $4.6 billion in insurance money, $6.3 billion in costs? Not such a great deal, then.

@TheAntiV He gets the lease on the hot new properties. He has fought for money the whole time. He currently is planning a new revised Manhattan. He is very excited about all the new open office space. The old buildings did not have the infrastructure needed for the tenants he is going to rent to. The old buildings were a nightmare, he filed to demolish them 3 times in his six months as Landlord, but was denied. 9/11 was the greatest blessing to Larry

The lease stipulates that should the complex be destroyed, Silverstein must continue to pay the $120 million a year rent in order to maintain the right to rebuild. Mr. Silverstein has tried to persuade the Port Authority that his closely held company is capable of rebuilding while meeting its massive rent payments.
