For loft flying do you ever worry about hawks? Just a question, especially since it seems that you live in a fairly rural area. I get a lot of trouble from hawks and I live in a pretty urban area.
From around December to March, I road toss them and when they come back I call them in right away. Thats when I set the trap so they can come in the loft and not get back out. If I let them loft fly during that time I fly them until they start landing on the roof, then I call them in. The hawks will pick them off the roof if they sit around very long. From around April to December, the hawks have plenty of other things to eat around here that they can catch easier than the pigeons.
This is very informative. My system isn't good. I have those wire bobs and they are nice but my birds know how to go through them backwards and get out when they aren't supposed to. I'll have to use your design instead.
do any birds ever escape this trap

no, once you get the sticks adjusted to the proper length so their backs just bump the door on the way in, then they can't get out from the inside.
