This is why you shouldn't watch the news . . . the reports didn't even acknowledge peaceful protests, they portrayed all protestors as anarchist. Of course in situations like this there will be the odd idiot. I wouldn't be surprised if some of those smashed windows were from rubber bullets or tear gas canisters.
