Each Uniersity has a specialty that is different from the others. If I wanted to go to med school or study science I would likely go to McGill since it is rather close to me. If I wanted to become an Engineer, Concordia is an okay choice, but I would likely learn more and have a different experience at Queens or Waterloo. Those are just some examples, but basically no school can say they are better at everything over everyone. Personally, I attend the John Molson School of Business (Concordia).

I hate to ruin the fantasy, Queens, but just because you guys give yourselves high ratings in polls of universities (which, yes, are questionnaires filled out by YOU, not any qualified higher educator or non-partisan authority) does not mean your school is of any international repute. Drive twenty minutes out of Canada and they have no idea who the hell you are.

U of T was Macleans' best uni in Canada for years until we stopped paying them to advertise. McGill and Queens still do. Congrats.

Indeed I did apply to McGill through the CF Veterans Re-Education plan, I was invited to talk to a counselor as my marks were rather high after a condensed CEGEP course load. As I walked in the man looked at was left of my right leg (hint I don't have one anymore) asked me how I was, when he noticed my French Canadian accent the promised 1 hour interview lasted 20 minutes. He then recommended UQUAM. Concordia took me in as an Honours student in History. I have a job at foreign affairs now.

Listen I have no real beef with McGill's educational programs, its a great school unless you want to go into Business or do a very specialized Arts and Science degree. My advice to you is to apply to both, if you get into McGill get in there! But they're a bunch of self-righteous ummm... people (you may have read xgreenpanda's comment) but most people defend they're colleges, most with better eloquence, I'm guessing panda is on one of the McGill sports teams.

It doesnt matter what university you go to in Canada. It depends what program you take. Go to York for buiness school and you are better off then going to U of T for Humanities. Go to Trent for Science and you will be more successful then going to York for Womens Studies.

The worst publicity is no publicity... Besides, McGill was ranked first in macleans and first in terms of Canadian schools in QS magazine (which provides information for time higher education). In reality though, This comparison between who's better is just asinine. What really matters is that each university has its strong points, and recognizing that, people choose the one that they like the most. Deriding other universities based on mere is just childish and ignorant.

Ummm McGill is ranked 3rd in Canada and 35th overall internationally (University of Toronto is ranked 17th and UBC is 30th) according to the Times Higher Education Ranking 2010.

And in total Research dollars U of T came first and almost doubled 5th place McGill.
