The Two Ronnies DID makes sense, it's just that their sketches were so quick you have to be really on the ball. I had to watch the mispronunciation sketch 5 times to get it all, it's so clever! Sorry, but I don't get the being insulted thing at all. This is a comedy sketch, for goodness sake! However, when I commented about David Cameron's use of a supposed German accent in a speech a while back about ID cards, where he was deliberating using the image of a long-gone totalitarian state to frighten people - I was told by other users to LIGHTEN UP, as it was 'JUST' a joke!! Where's the logic in that, if a comedian can't make jokes in a foreign accent, but a politician can??

The fact that they are saying this is Swedish is irrelevant to the comedy, if it makes you feel better calling it another accent, do so, its English with a funny accent which is their point and Swedes speak English with a funny accent. I thought this a creative and original sketch. Perhaps it is too intelligent for a lot of people to understand. If a person simply listens and pays attention, it is a delightful sketch. Most want comedy to be dumb and obvious not requiring thought. "The Two Ronnies" were two of the most intelligent comics ever to come along. Ronnie Barker's facility with words and word-play was nonpareil. As for the Swedish accent, for heavens sakes, this is a COMIC sketch; not an Oxford lesson in linguistics.

They are not abbreviations as such, but letters which sound like words, as in 'M' for ham, or 'X' for eggs, 'U' for you, 'V' for we (with a foreign accent) and 'R' for are. It became a standing joke in Britain long before people were texting things like 'CU' (see you)!
