@HowToLiz The solution to wind noise the wind screen (the soft black foam thingy) that normally comes with any microphone you buy.
It's been years since I did any radio, DJ, or video work so I don't have any specific mics to suggest, but I ran across this Zi8 microphone test video (the one near the top) for you. As a mic test it's terrible, but as a "what not to do unless you want to make your viewers sea-sick" it's fantastic!

I have a Zi8 & on a whim, I tried one of the cheapo $4 "skype" microphones with a piece of foam over the tip and it works 'better' in windy situations (i.e. - much less wind/gushy sounds)... but still nothing to brag about. I'm looking around, too, and it looks like it needs to be a shotgun mic and in the $80 - $200 range... *sigh* what's a cheap guy to do?

Zi8 sounds like you on a budget. The Audio technicha ATR-55 is a good one for cheap, but a great external mike is the Rode videomic.
