  • Yeah! .....

  • this is ROCK'N'ROLL !!

  • I feel better now the spirit is within me WOOOHAAA !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • 13 people were bitter cameramen pushed over for filming too close to a theremin.

  • This is the best televised performance I've ever seen, and I've never even properly heard this band. FUCK.

  • Viva Jon Spencer!

  • I need to watch this every 12 months.

  • What a fine pair of Shoes

  • Holy Shit!!! Epic!

  • I saw them on this tour - blew my tiny mind. Actually sold some of my clothes so I could catch a second show.

  • Best theremin player ever

  • wats the thing he is using like a Crystal ball used by a Black magician!?

  • @snair2355350 theremin

  • Insane!

  • The blooooos is number one! Ladies and Gentlemen!

  • Viva la Blues Exploison

  • to over the top

  • He is an interesting fact that people here don't know about. One of the creators of the SAW horror movie series worked on and appears in the show that is featured here. He did movies reviews, among other things.

  • ......thanks, great clip!! Seeing them tomorrow night in Vancouver. First time in 15 years!!

  • Greatest performance on live TV ever! Would this be allowed to ever happen again - doubt it. BTW the date of this Recovery ep was Sept 6th 1997.

  • this is the blues EXPLOSION !!! WOOOH !!

  • The 12 people who disliked this were sound technicians, camera people, set decorators, stage managers, cleaners and staffers who all worked on Recovery.

  • THE BLUES IS NUMBER ONE

  • 12 dislikers = dumbass

  • 1:39 "get the FUCK outta the way!"

  • Thats what I'm talking about! Kick ASS!

  • Sadly, the very day after this show was recorded, The Blues was determined to be Number Two.

  • @WizardGlik THE BLUES IS NUMBER ONE

  • What a waste of (what looks like an old RCA) Theremin.

  • @Johnny6666 how is it a waste

  • @LaterzMcGhee Because Theremins are, typically, never approached as instruments in their own right, but simply as 'boxes for making weird noises'. Those old RCAs sound inherently musical - when properly played. Unfortunately, few can play them. Do a YouTube search for Theremin videos featuring Clara Rockmore for an example of a Theremin being utilised AS an instrument, and not just a gimmick.

  • The blues is number one, baby!!!

  • BRING BACK RECOVERY!!!

  • I wonder what was going through the producers minds... the definitely didn't expect this. Miss the show, wish i was there!!

  • That's what I call passion for music. BLUES POWER!

  • Loved this guy for years! A true artist and rock the shit out of life!!!

  • some truly special shit, said the blues is number one the blues is number one

  • the Moog is number one!!!!

  • Now thats how you rock a studio

  • Robert Moog's Theramin!!!

  • Just seen Heavy Trash tonight and therefore Jon Spencer... this guy never gets old...his handshake is as strong as his performance. He's a legend. For ever :)))

  • Haha. Fucking odd how around 4:36 Jon walks over the drum. You gotta have some sync to pull that off without fucking the beat.

  • Oh Yeah!!!

  • The Blues are # 1!! Never can get enough of this, so damn funny classic moment in history of televison! Great concert last month in Utrecht Holland, the Blues they still got the flavor!!

  • Man... I need a recovery after watching that!!! Blues Explosion!!!!

  • Just....Wow.....

  • criminally underrated band

  • One of the greatest moments in the televisual history of Australia, if not the WORLD!!!

Live television-ain't it a kick in the head?!?

Definitely got my 8 Cents worth that day!

  • Also, this version of 2 Kindsa Love is way better than the album version, with that ring modulation warble or whatever the fuck that irritating noise is.

  • @RaygunShaun it's his theremin

  • @benowa4215 Here, he is using a theremin (which is badass), but on the album, it sounds like he's using a ring-modulated guitar or something; it ruins the otherwise perfect song.

  • This is by far the best and most exciting and amazing thing I have ever seen... every time I watch this it it just makes my day! Best anti-depressant ever... ;). Jon Spencer is KING!!!!!!!

  • This is by far the best and most exciting and amazing thing I have ever seen... every time I watch this it it just makes my day! Best anti-depressant ever... ;). Jon Spencer is KING!!!!!!!

  • 'OORAAANGE"!!!

  • Like a crossover of Elvis and Tenpole Tudor ! JSBE are fantastic !

  • I cant help but feel a bit honored that judah has my 52 telecaster! It totally makes up for springsteen having it as well.

  • this makes me want to buy a television

  • It has kinda a funk rhythm to it...I like =D

  • Thats the sweat ! The blues is Number 1 !!!!! Possibly the greatest moment in television ever !

  • AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRGHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!

  • we all need more like that, fuck off the MTV shit++++

  • and the kids like stuff such as "my chemical shitpants"... are you fukn kidding me ?

  • just fucking R&R

  • Jeez I wish they had the bit at the end, with Dylan barely able to speak. Classic, classic Aust TV moment!

  • l' anarchia del blueeeessss !!!!!!!!!!!!

  • This is so frickin awesome. I need a theremin.

  • Spettacolooooooooooooooooooooooo.....

  • awesome. a band that can perform. turn off ya ipod and the like and go see some real bands. not liking the way music is regressing

  • I want that "BLUES EXPLOSION" sign in my living room.

  • Jesus fucking christ, what a great performance:)

  • This might be the most awesome thing ever!

  • 1998

  • yip religious - watched with killer hangover - after EXPLOSION was gone?

  • can´t wait to see Jon with Heavy Trash this wednesday in Madrid!

  • gotta love how active john is in this vid

  • I love how they just walk off when they're done....brilliant!

  • this is religious

  • as heard on this evening's ITV F.A. Cup football highlights montage!

  • You're fucking kiddin' me!

  • seriously?

  • I should also note that, in my opinion at least, this version of "2 Kindsa Love" is, like, a skidillion times better than the album version.

  • Hell YEAH! Russell Simins! Judah Bauer! YEAH!

  • This is the best thing that's ever been performed on television. Long live the Blues Explosion.

  • @RaygunShaun have you ever seen the Blues Xplosion at French TV???

    incredible performance

  • @RaygunShaun - TOTALLY agree. One of my all-time fave Aust TV moments. Dylan lost for words at the end (coz that didn't happen all that often, eh?) Unfortunately, when they play it on RAGE, they cut that off.

  • THAT is a rock 'n' roll band my friends....

I remember watching 'Recovery' from time to time... This is as good as it gets. Those kids probably never even saw a proper r&r band before..

No gimmicks, just plain ass kicking blues infused rock 'n' roll...

Blues Explosion were a shining beacon in an otherwise forgetable decade for rock music..

And I don't think they could've been more outta place, in an era where soulless, vaguely depressed millionaires reigned supreme...

  • The Blues Is Number One. Do Not Forget This...

  • so funny

  • I love that he plays the theremin!

  • BLUES EXPLOSION!!!

  • RUSSELL SIMINS

Nothing better than a fat man thrashing a tiny little kit

  • Comment removed

  • Jon running over the kit @ 4:35-4:38 as Russel beats the shit out of it is brilliance also!

  • W OO AAAA h

    I'm scotched...

    That's all I can say...

UM BER LI VABLE...what a torrent of energize this guy has...man...it's OW-some...we need more guy like zis...Telly-vision would be more exciting - that's for sure !

  • That is the most boring crowd I have ever seen!

  • all i can say is "wow". that's some abbrasive shit! me like-y.

  • God Save the Theremin!

  • aku taw hang akan baca komen ni wahai sheir yg stoker hahaha

tgk 4:37 hahaha macam xdak apa

  • that's what I call a motherfuckin' EXPLOSION...!

  • Their energy alone will make your sack tighten and your asshole pucker.

GodDAMN are these boys solid live. Kick up those BPMs!

  • Great see Judah shuffle across at about 3:54 lets see Little Boots that kind of stuff off.

    xs

  • Goddamn that is good!

  • blues explosion!

  • cazzo! è pazzo questo!

  • Still the best rock and roll band in America and possibly the world!

  • THE BLUES...IT'S NUMBER ONE!!!!!!

  • Don't get that on XFactor.

  • amazing. I have to check this video at least once a month. this is how all music performances should be!

  • larga vida al maestro spencer y su theremin!!!

  • this is great music they make great music i dont care if there assholes. great music !!

  • Holy mother of tasty jams! Why did no one tell me of this glorious band?!

  • check out heavy trash jon spencers rockbllly band

  • greatest thing ever?

  • pros

  • well that's how rock 'n roll should be done, innit?

  • He believes his own hype, is incredibly arrogant, and a nightmare to deal with as far as promoters are concerned. He's also about eye level with Prince. If the munchkins were looking for a moody blues-punk singer, he'd be their guy.

  • you re fucking right baby ! ... and that's why i love this guy.

    god bless jon spencer.

  • Jon Spencer might make good music, but he's a 5 foot tall asshole. So is Judah, although Judah can get on most rides at Disneyland.

  • why is he an asshole?

  • you're right about disneyland but the rest is rubbish; since you're a promoter's friend, there's no surprise!

  • So you don't think he believes his own hype? And who said I was a promoters friend? The guy's a fucking baby. They're a good band, but seriously, Spencer thinks they're the fucking Beatles. And most bands like that are "rubbish".

  • maybe he has been f*cked enough by promoters so now he asks for a lotta $&stuff before playin a gig, then what? the guy deserves it+respect: check his work with rl burnside, the cheater slicks, the demolition doll rods, andre williams, the gibson bros, heavy trash, the flash express...; the guy wanna have fun playin rock&roll, & that's what he do best; and I don't think he believes the BX are the Beatles because the 2 last records suck real bad!

  • the demolotion doll rods? really? his work with the demolition doll rods? they deserve a fan base like i need a third nut.

  • Yes, J. Spencer produced half of the 1st DDR Lp. Mick Collins (the Dirtbombs) produced the other half.

  • the blues is number one.

  • @Horsemanray

In Chicago. In Portland. In L.A. In San Francisco. In...

  • one word YEAHHHHHHH

  • That's one of the most awesome things I've ever seen for television!

  • i have this on VHS, traded for it back in the day. It remains the most exciting balls out rock and roll I have ever seen on TV. I watched it over and over. Date is 17th Sep 1997. Shame its missing the presenter afterwards struggling to even talk, after what he saw!

  • this is amazing!!

  • I remember standing in my jammies one Saturday morning watching this happen live thinking "Holy Sh*t, This will be the last time the ABC cut a chq for Recovery". Sooo damn good to see it again. Many thanks for the post!!

  • Distilled beauty capped by a little whoop of joy. The Legend. United States of Erotica.

  • thats the shit !

  • THE BLUES IS NUMBER ONE!

  • They got the flava!! SOUL!

  • est com unha puta cabra, pero mola.

  • Moola, completa a bateria :))

  • Crazzeeee man....crazzeeee

  • Ah said tha BLUES is NUMBA ONE!

  • Anyone have any clue what that thing on Jon's amp is?

  • I know like 40000 people know this, but it's called a theremin and it was invented by some dude in the early/mid 20th century. It's used for a lot of hokey sci-fi films from the 40s and 50s and shit.

    Sounds cool though right?

  • I kinda thought it was a Theremin, but, then again it seemed like it was controlling the feedback.

  • yes, it's his Theremin which got stolen in Vancouver

  • bill bailey uses them loads

  • its an original 1962 theramin, which he had stolen on tour from the bus...

  • Gotta love that guy!

  • Rock and muthafukkin' roll!

  • looool i was thinkin he seemed more laid back than usual at the start, he soon fixed that , fucking hell!

  • YEAH!!!

  • Simply one of the greatest TV performances ever! This needs to be up there with Elvis and The Beatles on The Ed Sullivan Show.

  • I remember JSBX played the previous night and went quite late. I got up the next morning to watch Recovery. I was hung over and feeling like crap. I think maybe Jon Spencer was suffering jetlag and lack of sleep.

  • @cousincreep you mean he was a bit low on energy ?!!?

  • @benji274 Oh dear, you mean nobody ever told you about the concept formally known as satire?

  • ive been in that building. i don't remember that studio though. i think he lost this theremin. theyre pretty easy to build.

  • now that was something

  • damn. That is one of the most balls-out performances I've ever seen! I wonder if ABC was expecting all that?!?!

  • wow never seen this, what a show!

  • Ha, the guys in the studio were all like "...man, what the fuck?!"

  • amazing clip!!!!

  • fucking awesome!!!!

  • ja, give it up! Talk about influences!

  • NOIIIIIISEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!

  • AWESOME !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • wow

  • ha. superb

  • BTW That's not blues :)
