  • hhaaaa.. what a silly clip !! you should see how these idiots are fighting in Senate like animals and insulting each other..!! hhaaa

  • We need the Senate for oversight. It is obvious that in this country we NEED oversight ... i.e. Sponsorship Scandal, anything Harper and Flaherty do.

  • @atworkguy LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL

  • Screw the appointed Senate. Elect the Canadian Senate like a democratic nation should!

  • What a bullshit video! Sorry, but this sounds like propaganda.

  • What do you mean 'propaganda'? This is the definition of a factual, educational video. It's not pushing an agenda; rather, it explains the functions and activities of Senate committees.

  • Rah Rah Sis Boom Bah, look at these Political appointees sit on their arses. Isn't this great! This video serves only one purpose, to try to convince naive people that the senate is actually doing something worth while with all the tax payers dollars.

  • You see, when people meet to do work they tend to sit down...what do you expect them to be doing? What about their work on Bill C-10, when they poured over 560 pages of legislation - missed by elected members of the Commons, who earn far more money - in order to discover a government attempt at censorship? Please do some research prior to expressing yourself.

  • Bill C-10? Not funding artist's vain attempts at self exmpression or some other useless project that doesn't make money isn't censorship. If they want, they can do it with their own money. Why shouldn't they?

  • Actually, C-10 specifically includes a provision allowing the Minister to deny tax credits to projects that run counter to "public policy". To me, that's censorship, plain and simple. These tax credits help people of all political stripes and allow valuable productions to get loans from banks and thus finance themselves. So yes, it is their own money.

  • Denying tax credits is NOT censorship. Censorship is when you prevent somebody from any form of expression. Tax credits aren't a form of expression!

  • The prevention of 'any' form of expression, you say? I agree, my friend. Bill-10 constitutes effective censorship given the way Canadian films are financed. No tax credit = no bank credit = no production capital = no jobs for hardworking Canadian actors, crews, technicians, catering people, etc. There are good, solid economic reasons for not denying them that should outweigh Conservative ideology. But alas, this is not the case.

  • Funding business projects that lose money isn't censorship, it's called making sound decisions. Honestly though, who really cares about the catering people?

I've begun to realize all the fuss about Bill C-10. The Canadian film industry isn't worried about censorship, they're worried they might actually have to EARN a living just like everyone else! OMG, what has this world come to!?

  • They don't lose money. They make money but require banks to loan them money for start-up costs, just like any other business does. These loans are often contingent on the tax credits C-10 threatens to undermine.

People in that industry work hard and earn a good, honest living. The Senate is standing up for them while the Conservative government sits on its hands.

You seem really closed-minded to me. I feel sorry for you.

  • I hate to break it to you, but thousands of businesses and industries in Canada receive tax credits or other forms of government assistance, not just the film industry.

As someone who appears to be free market oriented, I would have thought that you would support reducing taxes, rather than limiting the availability of tax credits. Also, I'm no libertarian but I would rather not have the government decide behind closed doors, with no oversight, what I can and cannot watch!
