What a beautiful brunette who never got the recognition that she rightly deserved. Such a tragedy of a short career cut short by cancer (osteosarcoma; bone cancer that cost her a leg before she died)...RIP, Suzan.
East of Sumatra is hard to find except thru second hand sources that may have recorded it off the air. Hopefully TCM will eventually get their hands on it.
Richard Long had a relationship with Suzan Ball. Long was at Suzan's bedside when she was dying and Suzan in delerium said "Tony!", meaning Tony Quinn, with whom she also had a relationship. Apparently, Long went into a head-trip over that.
I read somewhere Marlon Brande once said that if Suzan Ball would have lived Marilyn Monroe wouldn't be the only eternal sex symbol or maybe even a lower sex symbol than Suzan .
Suzan Ball -Born February 3,1934 died August 5,1955, of cancer that required amputation of right leg. Malignancy spread to lungs. died 6 months after 21st birthday. Married to actor Ricard Long best known for Big Valley days circa 1965-1969 & who could forget Nanny & the Professor with Juliet Mills circa 1970. Long died at age 49 of heart attack. It was 55 years ago today Miss Ball ( as the press called her passed on into Hollywoods stablwew of stars known as "Gone to soon. REst in Peace Suzan.
WHO REMEMBER A PICTURE WHERE SHE DANCED WEARING A SARONG? THE PICTURE WAS "EAST OF SUMATRA" AND HERE IN BRAZIL THE NAME WAS " SOUTH OF SUMATRA (GOD KNOWS WHY) IN THIS MOVIE SHE WAS WITH ANTONY QUINN. I HAVE A HOPE TO SEE IT AGAIN..SUSAN WAS AN ANGEL...
Wow! A stunning performance. She really delivers that number like a seasoned pro and I don't think she was even twenty yet. World-class beauty, world-class talent. I'd love to see the whole film.
It's very sad the history of this beautiful and good actress, she will lives forever in the movies despite she died too young in a tragic way....but the magic of Cinema makes eternal the stars like her. JackStarkey --> Brazil.
Yesterday I saw her in the film "Chief Crazy Horse" where she played a beautiful Indian. And today I found out, that this was the last film she did, before she died at the age of 21.
