Really, this is like saying "A Clockwork Orange", by law, can't be read by children under 13... It's just downplaying how much of an art video games are.
the govenment cannot dabble in what a private company can or can't sell. If this law does get passed and the government does make it so companies can't sell their stuff, then that's proof how sick and screwed up this nation really is.
I like how politicians think they need to think for us all, If somone's parents wants to let kids play manhunt they can do that (not a very good parent though) I've shown my parents that I'll play and pick my games responsibly (I will only play gears of war with gore/language off) but it really does piss me off when politicians say that 15 year olds can't think for themselves. (sorry for the raging and play nice!)
hey IF they make stupid law like no more game on planet, you know. then I will stop watching movie, TV show no more I am finish. I think I will be complete different person.

video games are extremely expensive to make, if the law affects the sales, it will affect the types of games publishers are willing to publish, thus affecting the types of games publishes will allow game developers to make. @sklanger I'm a Liberal type of person and I think what you're saying is total bullshit. Corporations are made up of what? Robots? No. Humans, people. Quit with this Left/Right war crap. This is about video games.
@vgman94 Exactly. So why did liberals tell us, again and again, that corporations "aren't people" and therefore have no First Amendment rights? Why did liberal in chief Obama excoriate the Supreme Court for deciding that corporate speech is protected by the First Amendment in his State of the Union address? Why is the liberal establishment doom-mongering over Citizens United?
Are you saying that these liberals are full of unadulterated bullshit?
@sklanger No, it's just some Liberals, like many Conservatives, are full of bullshit. That doesn't mean ALL Cons/Libs are bad. And what is with this "doom-mongering over Citizens United"? What does that have to do with anything? Besides your paranoid, anti-Liberal nonsense. Seriously, get up and back onto your rocker and quit making this an anti-lib barb. It is meaningless and Libs have other, far more redeeming qualities.
@vgman94 Except almost the entire liberal establishment went apeshit over corporate speech, telling us that corporations "aren't people" and therefore aren't protected by the First Amendment. Yet you can't bring yourself to say that many -- not just "some" -- liberals are full of bullshit.
Sounds like you're full of it yourself. Hypocrite.
@sklanger Well, then those Libs must be like you Conservatives: Afraid of corporations coming to get you. Oh, wait, ypou Cons are afraid of your Government. And until you survey every Liberal yourself, I won't believe any word out of your biased, Conservative clap trap.
@vgman94 It would have nothing to do with the current brouhaha over video games and the First Amendment had liberals not told us, again and again, that corporations weren't people and didn't have any First Amendment rights. Now that dipshit liberals like you realize how anti-First Amendment that position is (because it would apply to corporations that happen to be video game companies), you blanch.
@sklanger You think everyone who's a Lib supports what you're saying. Grow up. A majority may do what you're saying, but that doesn't mean young Liberals support the same thing. And if you want hypocrisyu, let's talk about how Cons seem to have a fetus fetish believing their precious unconscious "baby" should have equal rights as humans yet still support the death penalty. THAT'S hypocrisy.
@vgman94 I didn't say "everyone." I said "almost all." Learn to read.
As for being anti-abortion and favoring the death penalty, there's nothing hypocritical about holding both positions concurrently. A fetus, assuming it's a "person," hasn't been convicted of any capital crime and therefore cannot be subject to death, whereas a person convicted of such a crime and afforded the full panoply of habeas rights exhausted on appeal certainly can be.
@sklanger The fetus may have done nothing wrong, yes. But it has the consciousness of a plant, basically. So it's rights, if any, are far more minimal to the woman's right to abort it if she wishes. As for the death penalty, I think it's needed, but overused sometimes or used for the wrong reasons.
I love video games, but the whole arguement is missing one thing. What about people and parents (thats right i said parents) who buy the violent games for the child. Its like buying alcohol for a minor. They are not going to win, they are just selling the product. I think if the parents or a gardian who does not read about the product before buying it and give it to thier child. Its their own damn fault, read the shit or have as a country become too lazy to read anymore for our protection.
If i were under 17 I couldn't even buy Grand Theft Auto or Manhunt. I'd need someone older. This retarded. If you want to blame someone, then blame the parent who is letting their kid get virtually Mindf#cked!
Minors aren't allowed to play M rated games already, if they get their hands on one it falls clearly on the shoulders of the parents that let them buy the game
ummm, not sure if you noticed, video games are sold to alot of kids and teens, thats alot of people and money, that means more money into the broken economy. so economically this is stupid.
i thought i'de just throw this out there that when i play violent video games i don't get the idea to go out and do this crap, infact it helps me take my anger out on the game and not normal people. if you are under 13 and play a violent video game then want to go do that you must have mental issues and can't tell the difference between game and reality. kids are too sheltered today, but i understand not wanting your 5-year old playing GTA.
The thing is, this legislature California is trying to pass is using "obscene" and "deviant" so it sounds less like "its bad" and more like "they do not the kind of values we like", which is probably what they think.
they should just leave it all alone and besides it the parents descion anyways why should it matter im cmon if u whant the game if u spent ur hard earned money for somthing u really whant yes i do argee with some of but no if the parents see what it rated for then they would simply say no that they dont wont there kids playing that i know for a fact

Bottom line is that if parents are worried about their children's mental health from playing violent video games, don't buy them the games!
But the whole argument is so insane anyway, there's no real evidence that playing violent video games makes you a violent person, shit i grew up playing Mortal Combat et.c and I'm a relatively respectable citizen, multiple felon perhaps, but certainly not dangerous.
Fuck you arnold! Dont be a fucking girly man! This thing would be pointless, if youre underage, then your parents can buy it for you. So, technically how could this work? Say, if this law was already around and black ops comes out next tuesday. your parents can go and pick it up for you, you dont have to go with. So, how would this stupid law make a difference? Besides, children make video game sales haha. But are annoying online....
kids can't even buy games that are m rated. It's the parents' job to do it. If the parents let them buy it, the parents are responsible. the hearing is quite pointless. The reason for minors playing m rated games is because of poor parenting overall. other factors may come but retailers have policy that they have the right to know your legal age before they can sell you m rated games.
"It should be a law that kids cannot have Twinkies because they are harmful for children, and parents/children aren't responsible, except for us, because we know what's best for you." Same logic.
Places already can get fined for selling M rated videogames to underage kids. I see no other need for protection against violent videogames. By passing this law, they are passing an overkill censorship law. They are simply targeting videogames as Movies, Television, Radio, and even books where once targeted. It's a useless law and doesn't deserve to be passed. Parrents should already know what games to buy their kids, you wouldn't take a six year old to Nightmare On Elmstreet would you?
A kid health issue?WTF don't target the games, gamers and developers target parents! If you target a rating (M) for example game developers won't what to make those games, and there for limits their creative willingness to make those games. If parent ware so worried about their kids they would do research, they are just fucking lazy and once they see some thing they don't like they blame the ones who make it,but not one fucking second do they realize they got it for there kid with their own$?

This is stupid , the economy is growing now small but growing , taking away games and making them this way will be a major downfall for everyone , the parents are to be blamed not the game industry , its called teaching kids right from wrong , video games are harmless , its the parents actions that depends on how things play out , immature 10 year old kids shouldn't be playing video games sure , but its the parents fault for whatever happens to that kid , not the game industry
if your kid does all things they see in a game then there just stupid you sould teach your kids right from wrong and control what they play and dont play its stupid to ban games fuckin liberals
"My child keeps asking me to buy him games like Halo or Call of Duty, so I buy them for him. This must be the government's fault! They should ban violent video games because I'm afraid to say no to my child! "
Hehehe. The fool in the first minute basically calls the game industry greedy, selling games towards anyone. However, the guy probably wants to pocket money off of those hefty fines. I hope the ban doesn't take effect. Ban POKEMON! That same damn game is released again and again in different editions. It just teaches kids "Hey, I'ma gonna kill your mutant stuffed animal." "No," "I wanna brawl!" It just cons 9-year old handheld noobs out of money.
America has so many problems, the war in the middle east, their very own health care, the BP oil spil, the spread of AIDS and thousands more that I can list. All of a sudden they care about childrens' well being? If there isnt a hidden motive behind this crap, feel free to call me a douche bag whenever you want.
The only reason this law is in the court is because of the election. Not because the senators and congressmen care about what the kids are playing, they could give a flying fuck what we do. Even if this does get passed the parents will still get kids the games they want. The parents now a days dont care what the kids are playing as long as they dont bug them. The problem isnt the games its the parents not raising thier kids to know right from wrong/good from evil.
HA, this is funny. What can they do honestly? Raise the age? Its well enforced already so if kids were to get the game, they will get the same way as before. With their parents. lool.
Parents recognize it? Thats why every time I'm in Gamestop I hear "mommy can I get this game it's rated M", and the parent invariably responds "Idunno nothin' about it. If thats the one you want get it and lets go". Parents take NO interest in their children's lives, because the previous generation failed to parent THEM properly.
They asked a good question on CNN - What is wrong with prohibiting the sale of adult content to minors? Nothing.
@nta214 That's a different problem. Kids need to be taught that being "hip" and playing "cool" games isn't important. Kids need to be taught to not conform and find better games to play. In my opinion, they should begin by playing slightly more kiddy games like Crash Bandicoot, Spyro the Dragon (Legend of Spyro), Sonic the Hedgehog, Ratchet & Clank. Not TGA, Manhunt and all that crap. That doesn't mean M games need to be banned. It just means kids need to be parented more tightly.
@nta214 Oh, well that won't do anything. The parents ALWAYS buy the games for the minors. There's rarely M rated games that 14-year-olds buy alone. Although, that's just a wild guess, so I could be very wrong...
I seen tons of kids get turned away from Gamestores for a game like GTA4. Kids can get porn, weed and hamburgers... and google anything and watch anything on cable. These games don't go far enough to water down kids to the reality of cruel life. Send them to a massacre in Mexico and see what real brutality is. Arnold is a fucking Nazi, hope he catches a bullet with his face!
it is funny how few give shit M rate games canada we never had bill try and get them boycott same as japan with sexy beach and they have low gun crime rate then any one.I wounder why lol
@rootbeerlover445 - At the end of the day the blame game doesn't change a thing. We're not interested in past shootings or bullying or any of that. What we need is to keep adult content, and content that has been recognized in the social science field as unhealthy for the mental state of minors, out of the hands of minors.
actually he listened to the beatles... thought they were telling him about a coming war between the races... so we should totally ban all their songs...
People are always looking to blame something for there own stupid actions. Hey I wonder are the video games that osama bin laden played and what where the games that hilter played. Punk ass parents need to wake the fuck up and take the responsiblity for there own kids.
children spend way to much time on video games these days...i think this law helps in a sense that it will open parents' eyes to direct their children's focus on more productive activities.
I don't think it is a big deal. I mean, it really only affects minors, and if the minor is really desperate to play the game against his parents rules, he or she still will. I mean, someones parents they know will obviously buy the game, so....yeah. What is the point of this law again.....?
THIS LAW THAT WAS PASSED IS SETTING AMERICA BACK 20 YEARS!!!! THERE IS MORE VIOLENT MATERIAL IN THE F****** BIBLE!!!! WHY DON'T THEY GET THEIR FACTS RIGHT!!! TRY BURNING THE BIBLE!!!!
Parents should be the ones who decide what games they get for their kid. They could just watch walkthroughs on youtube to decide whether or not a game is too violent for their kid. These rules can be bypassed anyways so it isn't all that detrimental to sales. just the parents should be more involved in what their kids are doing, the government shouldn't be doing that for them.
If they do it with video games, they'll have to do it with movies and all the other forms of media. In any case, I really don't care. Kids shouldn't be playing game meant for adults.
So the Terminator wants to complain about violence? Bugger off dude and keep your cyborg paws off my video games. If punting gnomes is wrong, I don't want to be right.

if your kid does all things they see in a game then there just stupid you sould teach your kids right from wrong and control what they play and dont play its stupid to ban games fuckin liberals

"My child keeps asking me to buy him games like Halo or Call of Duty, so I buy them for him. This must be the government's fault! They should ban violent video games because I'm afraid to say no to my child! "
Pretty much what parents think these days.

@Nazeem38 Be a parent say NO if you dont want them playing it

KillA9238 1 year ago
The only reason this law is in the court is because of the election. Not because the senators and congressmen care about what the kids are playing, they could give a flying fuck what we do. Even if this does get passed the parents will still get kids the games they want. The parents now a days dont care what the kids are playing as long as they dont bug them. The problem isnt the games its the parents not raising thier kids to know right from wrong/good from evil.

HA, this is funny. What can they do honestly? Raise the age? Its well enforced already so if kids were to get the game, they will get the same way as before. With their parents. lool.
MadmanKillEmAll 1 year ago
Parents recognize it? Thats why every time I'm in Gamestop I hear "mommy can I get this game it's rated M", and the parent invariably responds "Idunno nothin' about it. If thats the one you want get it and lets go". Parents take NO interest in their children's lives, because the previous generation failed to parent THEM properly.
They asked a good question on CNN - What is wrong with prohibiting the sale of adult content to minors? Nothing.
nta214 1 year ago
@nta214 That's a different problem. Kids need to be taught that being "hip" and playing "cool" games isn't important. Kids need to be taught to not conform and find better games to play. In my opinion, they should begin by playing slightly more kiddy games like Crash Bandicoot, Spyro the Dragon (Legend of Spyro), Sonic the Hedgehog, Ratchet & Clank. Not TGA, Manhunt and all that crap. That doesn't mean M games need to be banned. It just means kids need to be parented more tightly.
vgman94 1 year ago
@vgman94 - But what they are trying to pass is not a total ban on the sales of these games, it's just to make the sale to minors illegal.
nta214 1 year ago
@nta214 Oh, well that won't do anything. The parents ALWAYS buy the games for the minors. There's rarely M rated games that 14-year-olds buy alone. Although, that's just a wild guess, so I could be very wrong...

Weed is legal in California. It just would seems right for games to get banned. It kinda balances it out. Why cant we just have both in all states...
TheVegaNVega 1 year ago
I seen tons of kids get turned away from Gamestores for a game like GTA4. Kids can get porn, weed and hamburgers... and google anything and watch anything on cable. These games don't go far enough to water down kids to the reality of cruel life. Send them to a massacre in Mexico and see what real brutality is. Arnold is a fucking Nazi, hope he catches a bullet with his face!

rootbeerlover445 1 year ago
@rootbeerlover445 - At the end of the day the blame game doesn't change a thing. We're not interested in past shootings or bullying or any of that. What we need is to keep adult content, and content that has been recognized in the social science field as unhealthy for the mental state of minors, out of the hands of minors.

People are always looking to blame something for there own stupid actions. Hey I wonder are the video games that osama bin laden played and what where the games that hilter played. Punk ass parents need to wake the fuck up and take the responsiblity for there own kids.

What about the lady that killed her kid for interrupting her FarmVille game?
Not a violent game.
Retards don't need an excuse to kill.
Games, tv, movies, etc.

children spend way to much time on video games these days...i think this law helps in a sense that it will open parents' eyes to direct their children's focus on more productive activities.

I don't think it is a big deal. I mean, it really only affects minors, and if the minor is really desperate to play the game against his parents rules, he or she still will. I mean, someones parents they know will obviously buy the game, so....yeah. What is the point of this law again.....?

NFLxFan 1 year ago
Parents should be the ones who decide what games they get for their kid. They could just watch walkthroughs on youtube to decide whether or not a game is too violent for their kid. These rules can be bypassed anyways so it isn't all that detrimental to sales. just the parents should be more involved in what their kids are doing, the government shouldn't be doing that for them.

If they do it with video games, they'll have to do it with movies and all the other forms of media. In any case, I really don't care. Kids shouldn't be playing game meant for adults.
