  • why does the tcon board go out? anyone know?

  • exact same thing with my samsung ln40a750.

  • WARNING TO ALL SONY BUYERS!!!!!! I just completed a 3 month journey with this crappy company regarding the well known screen problems associated with these models...first they sent me to a repair shop that had no replacement parts because SONY stopped supplying them. I waited 2 more mos for sony to finally offer me a refurbished 3 year old TV or buy a newer model for 300 of of THEIR list price.....which was 500 dollars more expensive than everybody else

SONY sucks stay away...THEY DONT CARE

  • Had a xbr4 tv for going on 5 years and no problem

  • I've just ordered a Vizio from Wal-mart to replace my Sony KDL52BR4 ....too big for a doorstop.

  • What a bummer. I have the exact model (XBR2 I think, but should be the same components). Mine is 4 years old and 100% perfect. I love this TV. I hope Sony made good and fixed your TV.

  • I have/had a similar symptom/problem with my 52 XBR4, and have "fixed" it by simply pushing the upper left hand of the TV/screen....picture corrected...so put 5 quarters under the front left of the stand...like a leveling problem....or shift the weight/stress. The repair estimate from a "qualified" repair man was about $2000. for a panel replacement. The various tab bonding videos inspired me to push and pull to see if picture would change and or correct.

  • lmao awesome for watching home video's dude you would think sony would do somthing about this issue ESPECIALLY when thousands of people are having the same problem..................... fucking scammers

  • So many problems with the Sony TV's. Im 14 months into mine and I have this flickering down the middle of the screen. Did the firmware upgrade and things just got worse. Sony wont help because my warranty is over 2 months ago. Im totally screwed and SOL. Sony has just turned their back on me. I dont have the money for a repair which will cost as much as the TV itself. I dont have the money for a new TV either. These TV's should last longer then 14 months. I'll never buy a Sony TV again. Never.

  • My Sony took 1 day to break and it goes into a super bright mode. Gee it was a great gift but now its broken and it does it everytime I turn it off for a while

  • My Sony took 31 days to break, and Sony repair is non-existant! Save your money to buy something else!

  • @dracoslane "Save your money and buy something else" like what else?? From what I've read.. It seems that every single available brand will give you problems in 1 to 2 years. Samsung, LG, Vizio, sony etc. etc. They all seem to be disappointing consumers. Is there a brand that actually makes a TV that will last more than a year or two?

  • Continued comment: Hey! That's exactly what is happening with my KDL46V4100. Sony reps have been contradicted each other too. One saying I can have about a month to decide whether I want the TVs they are offering at a discounted, then two days later, someone calls and says, "No. you get a week."

Their latest e-mail from Sony is "accepting this offer, you agree to release and hold harmless Sony Electronics Inc., and its affiliates ..."

The repair for panel is $2,200, Sony will pay $900.

  • Hey! That's exactly what is happening with my KDL46V4100.

A lot of phone calls to Sony. They sent a flash drive saying that it could be the conversion from analog to digital. More calls. They are asking about an extended warranty, which I think I bought, but no longer have the receipt from Circuit City. And the outside source handling Circuit's extended warranty accounts says there is no record. Although my credit card receipt shows the price of the TV and a $400. charge, the ext. warranty?

  • nothing a bucket of dry wall mud wouldnt fix

  • I've got the KDL-52W3000 with the EXACT SAME ISSUE! I've been fighting with Sony for 3 months now and no help?! I bought mine new in March of '08 & it started this in March of '10. Sony has been unwilling to help so far. This was the 2nd LCD TV I've bought from them, and the last if I can't get this resolved.

  • This is what happens when Sony contracts Samsung to put screens in their high end products.

  • Nice useful video,But it is surprising that you expected modern Tv's to last as much as the old CRT's....My estimate is that these LCD's & Plasmas would last just 2 to 3 years if you are lucky ! Since i feel that LCD & BD's were all being launched in a hurry, eventually the consumer is the one who is fooled. And those who bought the generation one LCD's & Plasma's which had horrible clarity but consumers paid more for this less than perfect techonology...

  • @krisachar I would hope a Sony TV lasts longer than 8 months. Replacement XBR9 is working good so far.

  • I have a KDL-40XBR2 (manufactured 2007 in Mexico). I am seeing 5 horizontal bands covering the about 2/3s of the screen from bottom to top.

So, about 2 years of an excellent picture and then....

This set was about $2,500 at the time. I will not buy another Sony.

I can (from other Internet sites) where similar issues exist for many people.

No more Sony stuff for me....

  • Good g-dammit! I have this same problem!! at first, hitting it lightly with the palm of my hand caused it to stop, now its getting more consistent and requires a lot more 'hitting' I'm calling Sony right now, of course, I'm like 6 months after the 1 year warranty!

  • @token2k7 I have the same issue with my vizio 46". It used to go away after I would hit it but now its very bad. Did you find out what caused this?

  • If you have this TV Sony is now repairing them for free. Go to the Sony website and search for KDL-46xbr4

  • I have Sony KDL 46X3500 (European model of the XBR4) with similar problem as you have. The TV is 18 month old now, about a month and a half ago started to do these things. Actually I have some doubts if it is the T-CON or TAB bonding on the LCD.

I wasn't so fortunate so far with the repair, Sony refuses to do anything. So really beware of this TV and Sony.

  • Well....After a very heated conversation with the sony rep. I got them to cover 50 % of the repair. Before i go out and have an estimate done, could you give me an idea if this is worth my time, or should i just get another TV? Do you know the cost of this repair??

  • The Panel replacement costs $2350.00. I just faxed them proof of purchase today.

  • I have the exact same TV with the exact same problem. My TV is less than 2 years old. What are my options? Am i screwed or is it worth my time trying to work something out with sony?

  • I am calling them again tomorrow I'll let you know how it works out for me.
