  • This is great Stephen, really enjoyed it.

  • @PepperandRafferty Thanks, glad you enjoyed watching it!

  • Love it! Live not far from Bridport and this is fab!

  • @jenhen02 Thank you Jen, glad you enjoyed it. Share it with your friends :)

  • brilliant

  • @zepster2006 Thank you :)

  • I wish so much luck in your future. I believe you are truly talented and love your work. Keep it up.

    Dee x

  • @MistressParamour Thank you. Keep up the good work yourself :)

  • i just felt a chill down my spine

  • @HellsDog666 Cheers man :)

  • Awesomeness! (Greetings from Weymouth by the way). Stunning piece of work and THANK YOU for being bothered to post the title of the Music. Something which few people bother to do.

  • @carlashwin That's okay. I put a link to the song on iTunes on there because I didn't want to get in trouble with Disney :). Glad you liked it :)

  • This is ******* amazing. Utterly speechless.

  • @IHeadphaze Thank you :)

  • I saw the article about your video in the Bridport News. An article on the next page is about my music video that I'm promoting. I studied in Liverpool for 3 years, so we have another connection there. My video's on my channel: Douglas Dare - London's Rose. From one Artist inspired by Bridport, to another. P.S I love the video and have shared it everywhere!

  • @dougiedare Hi Douglas. Your song is fantastic, I'd be excited if we could collaborate on something in the future. Bridport by Night isn't perfect just yet - there are some better shots I can get. And I can spend longer outside in the summer to get them. Glad you're on YouTube as well. Your mum pointed out your talents to me and now I've heard them. Keep up the great work!

  • Very good! There is a similar one of Portland by a Portland photographer. It was shown in the ICCI360 360 degree panoramic cinema dome on the beach and it looked great! Might be shown again in the Olympics where there will be a bigger dome outside the Pavilion! (Search for Norman Lomax Portland on Google because YouTube comments wont take links)

  • @spencerh11 I absolutely love the backing track to that piece. Sends shivers down my spine it's so atmospheric! Thanks for pointing it out because I can now watch it again :)

  • You don't get many places like Bridport where you can stand on any hill around it and see the whole thing, i've tried time lapses on Allington but never as good as this.

  • @weaverfishable What camera were you using?

  • @umboodybanksie Aiptek AHD H350

  • @weaverfishable Ah, get yourself a cheap-ish dSLR and get out there! :)

  • Mindblowing - all round excellence - could you do this for Exeter where I live - or for so many other towns & cities - perhaps you could contact their councils to promote your achievement .... I'm sure many such as Bath etc., would pay handsomely as part of their tourism promotions ...

  • @MartinSlosh Problem is with larger towns and cities, you get a lot of noise pollution. Even in sleepy Bridport, believe it or not, it's impossible to get decent shots of the stars in the middle of town, and much further out when the rugby and football grounds have their lights on... I've already been approached by people for potential new work, so it's going well :)

  • well done, this is just great thank you

  • @MrDaveben62 You're welcome, thank you :)

  • Ashley highlighted this to us - so pleased to see this film - its fantastic, and the music you chose to run with it is incredible - it gives a sense of beauty, and rapture to the entire piece - Congratulations - Lyn and Graham - will share for you, hope you reach your target, the sky's the limit!

  • @SuperGrahamw Thank you for your kind words. The target was passed today thanks to Wessex FM, but a spot of sharing won't do any harm :) Much appreciated!

  • What a wonderful video . Thank you for making the world a little bit better.

  • @hollyhillian Thank you Holly. :)

  • Nice to see this great video is getting such good notice - anywhere we can catch up on the ITV West Country news bit (assuming it's already been on)? One question - how did you get permission for the soundtrack? As it's from a Disney film (Mystery of the Flamingos), if it cost, I'm guessing this can't have been cheap! Unless I'm mistaken and there's no copyright?

  • @dorsetwatcher Thank you for the kind words. Unfortunately, ITV only offer the catchup service for local news programmes for 24 hours after it being aired. I have purchased the song from iTunes and linked to it in my description. What usually happens is that YouTube stumble upon the video and slap an advert over the top of it and a "buy this track on iTunes" link below the view count. I haven't a clue how ITV got to use the track in the piece they did about it though!

  • I've done that! without a camera :D

  • @AGWhiteman :) Grab a camera!

  • @umboodybanksie Any Camera!! :D I have a HI8 Camcorder and a 2.5MP mobile camera, don't think I'll get the quality of shots that you have. You might try going up Allington Hill, from the bench by the Power sub station is a nice view back onto the town. There are a few other fav's too ;)

  • @AGWhiteman Ah, any dSLR camera! Yes, I definitely need to visit there next time it is a clear night. What are your other favourites? Cheers :)

  • @umboodybanksie Behind Downes Hall / Mountfield, there is a round walk that takes you onto the top of that hill, direct view of West Bay from there! Also from 'Monarch's Way' over the hill next to Colfox you get a STUNNING view of all Bothenhampton, Bridport, West Bay. And up @ Highland's End in Eype by the Mobile phone mast looking back inland towards Bridport or out toward Weymouth/Portland with West Bay in the foreground! @ the Top of Jessops Avenue/Lee Lane, looking across Conygar to Colmers

  • @AGWhiteman You're a star, I know where I'll be next time it's clear!

  • Brilliant.... Loved the video.... What music was playing?

  • @soodlecull Music is 'Arrival of the Birds' by the Cinematic Orchestra. :) Thank you, glad you enjoyed it

  • I adore this. Saw the report on the news about it just now and had to look it up. Amazing job!

  • @jimmayhugz Thank you :). It was gloriously edited by reporter Duncan and filmed beautifully by cameraman Steve. Big thanks to them. Be sure to spread the video amongst your friends. I have a target for this video to hit 12,977 views (see why in the description), but going further would be awesome :)

  • @umboodybanksie Only 58 views to go! :)

  • Tremendous piece of work - did you do the zooming and panning in the camera at the time of shooting? If so, brilliant and very complex. Favourites include the shimmying boats at West Bay - I'd love to see a complete tide cycle at night! The music just fits perfectly too.

  • @Miketache Unfortunately not. I don't have a dolly system yet and I wouldn't be quite sure it would work with long exposures. Moving whilst the camera is on a 30 second exposure shot is never advisable. It's all in the plans Mike!

  • You're getting close to your total view count. Congratulations!

  • @darkwrld I know, very exciting :D

  • Nice one, that is smashing.

  • @huntergatherer32 Thank you. Version 2 is already in the making. Lovely clear sky tonight. I ventured to West Bay, then Loders!

  • Stunning. You are very gifted. Beautiful music accompagnement

  • @itkaro Thank you very much :)

  • Two dislikes for this video? The pair of you: YOU ARE DEAD INSIDE

  • @duckorange Hehe

  • I was born in Bridport and never wanted to move away. It is still very beautiful. Your video shows the beauty also. Thank you so much for posting it.

Gave me goose bumps watching it.

  • @MistressParamour Thank you for the kind words. Glad you enjoyed it and it brought back memories :)

  • Great Video :) so it's 3000 clicks for 2min video

  • @asaspasas6 Thank you! Spot on! My camera's eating up the shutter actuations!

  • @umboodybanksie

so how many you have already. mine is only 11k :)

  • @asaspasas6 How many what? :S

  • @umboodybanksie what is shutter count on you camera now? :)

  • @asaspasas6 Oh, it's past 30,000 now I think. Good for 100,000 they say!

  • @umboodybanksie it will be good for a lot longer :)

  • This is a lovely film of a place I think of most days and have already returned to to live in many of my dreams. Thanks for making and posting it.

  • @Lizzielizzie0 Hope it convinces you to move down here at some point!

  • Comment removed

  • WE LOVE IT! Have watched many times and shared it with friends, family and children in class. It has gone viral in Bridport! Thank you x

  • @springfieldheaven That's fantastic. I'd love the film to inspire kids to go out with cameras and explore the stars!

  • Beautiful film and great choice of music.

  • @mattsefton Thank you :)

  • @umboodybanksie I have a canon eos 1000d. To be honest I would benefit from reading the manual! And to be fair I had a stab at photographing the aurora last year using very coarse settings on my camera(I at a camera on a chair-have no tripod hehe)so perhaps I need a bit more kit to pull this kind of amazing film off!

  • @Therowleyclan Any dSLR should be able to pull off similar stills with the manual setting, bumping the ISO up to something like 1,600, and leaving the shutter open for 10-30 seconds. Then you need to get an external remote control for the interval timing. Third party makes and models will set you back around £30 for the digital versions (which is what I'd recommend), or Canon own brand one (probably around £100). And a tripod, of course - nothing too fancy though. Happy shooting!

  • Awesome! I seriously need to learn how to do this with my camera!

  • @Therowleyclan What camera have you got? I'm not being modest, it really is quite a simple procedure with the right tools!

  • amazing!!! makes me miss home and wish I was back in the shire.

  • @rkm100100 I hope the stars are this bright where you are. Where did you move to?

  • Beautiful. Your hard work has paid off - this is a fantastic short film with some awe inspiring shots. Well done :-)

  • @manychefsbroth Thank you very much! I would like to make it longer, but I've always been taught anything over two minutes on YouTube loses interest!

  • I can't stop watching this, I'm trying to give it as most exposure as i can through various social networking site.

  • @fletcherbravo Thank you! Keep pushing! I would love to reach my target of 12,977 views, which is Wikipedia's count of the population of Bridport!

  • Stunning

  • @wolvolad25 Thank you :)

  • fantastic film Stephen, very beautiful. Nello :-)

  • @abesapien2 Cheers, glad you liked it!

  • 1:21 -1:25...the time-lapse really gives it this awesome vibration effect that I would see in a dubstep or drum n bass video..so badass..LOVED all of it!

  • @regulatorzone I thought that shot looked out of place with the rest of the video, but people seem to like it. Maybe I'll do a dubstep remix ;)

  • Hay there I live in Bridport and I think this video is ,,,just wow ,,,it realy is brilliant!! Well done Mr banks,,,its crazy wht u hav done with this footage,,,shows that people Nees to open there eyes more to see the splenda that's around them,,again very good

  • @wizeman111 Thanks for the kind words. Glad you enjoyed the video :)

  • I'm so proud to live in Bridport. SO beautiful <3

  • @bucketofbutterflies Me too :)

  • It gives the allure that its good, this is infact a lie

  • @Sphipsta What, Bridport? You should try somewhere like Toxteth :)

  • na i aint on twitter the only thing i do have is a facebook page which is dorsetinanotherlight add me on there for up to date work

  • @stubo300 I've added your Dorset in Another Light Facebook profile as a friend. Look forward to seeing more of your work :)

  • how do you do the tracking motion?

  • @ersalanni Panning around a video larger than the 1920x1080 canvas. Not true motion as you would get with a dolly or rails, but it will do until I get some kit like that :)

  • gizmodo brought me here :)

  • @ersalanni Good ol' Gizmodo :D

  • Featured on Gizmodo :)

  • @DBDezigns Can't believe it! Really chuffed about that!

  • Great choice of music as well, it really makes it come alive

  • @fletcherbravo I saw another video using this music and instantly knew it would work!

  • lovely!

  • @Cassandrapuni Thank you! :)

  • Speechless....this is beautiful, deserves a lot of recognition

  • @fletcherbravo Thank you very much! Make sure you share it with your friends ;)

  • This is unbelievable!!! Born and bread in Bridders, and I never seen it like this.. absolutely stunning well done :) very talented. studied photography & film at Uni so i know how hard this is!!!! very impressed. it's been flying around facebook lately so we keep posting it around to get you noticed :) :) well done xx

  • @whoatemymonkey Thank you very much! Where did you study? I went to Newport and was tempted to switch to the Documentary Photography course there. But stuck with graphic design and kept photography as a hobby. Probably never would have had the chance to do this for work if I was a photographer.

Thank you for sharing it around. It's really building up the views :D

  • In reply.....no ,the son's not on a holi he lives in a place called Morzine with wife plus 2 girl type sprogs ! They have apartments to let should you or friends need .God bless many more beatiful filming hours be yours .Amanda

  • @grannywheels2 Ah, thought I'd ask out of curiosity - I have a friend on holiday there. I'll definitely bear that in mind if I or any of my friends fancy going out there :). Cheers, looks like tonight's a good night. Moon and venus in alignment :)

  • I really loved this video, so much I've linked a load of news sites to it. I hope they pay attention to it and give you the attention you deserve - This video is amazing.

  • @darkwrld Thank you very much - I appreciate that :)

  • Absolutely beautiful, I have found myself watching it over and over again. Have you thought about sending it to the Arts Centre or Electric Palace? It would make a wonderful introduction to one of their films - your hard work really does deserve a wide audience and recognition. Great to see that it's getting lots of views here!!

  • @Mabelcakes Thank you! I've talked to Polly at the Arts Centre, haven't heard back yet. I've also spoken to the Town Hall and they're going to try and fit me into their schedule. Failing that, I've got a TV and a window...

  • good vid, surprised nobody stole your camera though ;D

  • @redfox2020 I have faith in Bridport. I wouldn't have faith in Liverpool ;). Glad you liked the video

  • @umboodybanksie Very brave! I would camouflage it well! ;)

  • @NathyPearce When I'm away from streetlighting, it's a black camera, on a black tripod, in the dark :). With nobody around!

  • Omg I nearly cried when I watched this, it's incredible. Bridport is my home and has been for my entire life, I love it so much. Now I'm living away from there and I miss it, this just took me back to some of my favourite nights from my hometown, I can't even describe this! Thank you for making it, Stephen Banks.

  • @lexifantastiq Thank you for the kind words. I'm glad it relates to your memories of Bridport. Whereabouts are you moving?

  • @umboodybanksie I'm away at uni in Southampton, and I miss Bridport so much! I come back occasionally for weekends but it's not the same. Are you going to do more videos like this? I can't wait for the extended version, and Dorset By Night sounds amazing too :D

  • @lexifantastiq Oh okay, what are you studying there? I think you're one of the few people around here who go off to uni and actually miss the place. It's a bit sad really...

I'm going to make it an ongoing project, especially when the weather starts getting better in the Spring. Then I don't really have any excuse if I'm filling my evenings with watching telly... I like to keep myself busy and creatively occupied.

  • @umboodybanksie I'm at Uni too. Friends with Lexi. I miss Bridport, Beaminster & Dorchester so much where I'm away. Though I do visit home nearly every other day.

  • @umboodybanksie I'm doing psychology :) So many people hate living around here, I don't quite understand it. That'll be fantastic when we get to see more :D

  • @lexifantastiq They seem to convince themselves that it's boring and there's nothing to do. I'd have killed for a beach and scenery like this when I grew up in Liverpool! Make sure you're subscribed to my channel then :)

  • So so beautiful... superb choice of music too... it took me on a Dorset dream... goosebumps

  • @Flea8 Thank you, glad you enjoyed it :)

  • @umboodybanksie all you need is a bike my man, tis the only way to travel! ps. The song/peice of music called 'An Opening Image' by Arve Henriksen always reminds me of a very memorable night taking in Bridport's atmospheric delights. check it out

  • @calumcroft I get by, but I do need a car for work commitments.

That piece is really beautiful. I definitely need to explore more ambient music... Stuff like that is ideal for pieces of video I want to create similar to Bridport at Night

  • Absolutely brilliant - what a great piece of film making. Don't think anyone will have seen Bridport & the surrounding area in quite this way before. Fantastic shots - the shot of the boat in particular is wonderful, almost hyper-real (it looks lit up - did you light it or just use natural light?). The night skies are stunning. How long did you have to stand with the camera for? Great choice of music too. Keep it up & keep watching the skies!

  • @dorsetwatcher Thank you very much :). I was very lucky with the boat because it wasn't there for very long (only about a week or so I think) and it was lit by street lighting at the end of that side of the harbour. Ideal really :) and one of my favourite shots from the piece.

For shot 12, for example, I was standing with the camera for over 90 minutes. I want to be able to camp out in the summer and do much longer exposures though...

  • Really nice photography of the surrounds and abouts in Port. Keep up the sweet work dude!

  • @sjbondini Thank you very much :)

  • Love it ,its so sensitivly done ,bless you many thanks Just sent it to my son in French alpes to remind him of the old place !!

  • @grannywheels2 He wouldn't happen to be on a skiing holiday there? Thanks for your kind comments :)

  • Wow thats incredible, youve captured a real emotion in this and obviously put a lot of work into it.

Thanks for making me appreciate bridport and dorset for the wonderful place it is.

  • @thejamman555 Thank you very much, glad you enjoyed it :)

  • Amazing. Particularly like the shot of [East/West?] cliff, West Bay - sorry I was never much good at navigation! Well done & look forward to more videos.

  • @urcocomo It would have been East Cliff, although I had to have a good think about it myself. Heading towards Burton Bradstock/Weymouth.

  • This is an amazing piece of film making, it's shot so well and the composition is really impressive. Generally really impressed by this. I'm really into film making and photography myself, so I know how much work goes into a piece of work like this. I'm keen to have a look at your other work now! :)

  • @punkndisorderly93 Thank you for your kind words. In terms of video work, my YouTube account is sorely lacking. But check out the "Made by Watershed PR" playlist to see what I've been up to recently.

  • ''I see far too many touristy video features about the West Dorset coastline. Too many quaint holiday cottages and clichéd shots of people eating ice cream on the beach''. Very, very well put. Who'd a thunk It would take a young Scouser to finally do Bridders cinematic justice! crackin job lad, more of the same please ;-)

  • @calumcroft Well, there's room for improvement, so I'll be heading out over the next few months to get some improved shots. And when I finally do get a car, I'll be doing a whole Dorset by Night video :)

  • this video is very well made, real nice work.

  • @borishl44 Thank you :)

  • I get to see a different view of Bridport and watching this spectacular footage makes what I do all very worth while…..Thank you Stephen.

  • @tempestsroar What do you do? I take it you live/work locally?

  • This is a fantastic piece of work. I take my hate off to you well done... I would love to try this sometime soon as I’m not too far away from you.

    All the best

    Keith (chard Somerset)

  • @cci007 Thank you Keith, glad you liked it and I hope it inspires you to get out there and try some time lapse starscapes for yourself :)

  • This looks even better full screen Stephen, great framing too... 'Arrival' was definitely the right choice of music. One dislike, what a muppet.

  • @poshcar1965 Cheers Rob! I tried it on an iPhone and it doesn't really work! Nice on my iMac, even nicer on my 50" Plasma! ;)

  • Thankyou for reminding me what a stunning place I live in.

  • @luluskiptotheloo You're welcome. I thank Bridport for having me :)

  • Sooper stuff! :)

  • @ThonColinFilms Thank you very much :)

  • can i ask what camera and editing programme you use

  • @101egbert This was surprisingly done in iMovie 09, bundled with Mac OS X. I would have used Final Cut Pro, but I started the project as an experiment in iMovie, and it just about kept on going until the end. I did need to duck out the last bit of the music, but I did that in the free programme Audacity, before re-importing that track into iMovie.

  • @101egbert Oh, and the camera is a Nikon D7000, with the vast majority of shots taken with a 11-16mm Tokina f/2.8 lens

  • Love it, thanks for sharing this stunning. I live on the river Dart and want a camera that I can do timelapse with desperately. What kit were you using? Thanks Tim

  • @BrixhamSeaSchool That's okay. I'm using a Nikon D7000, a good sturdy tripod (although it has just broken so I'm not going to recommend it) and a Tokina 11-16mm ultra wide lens. The D7000 has something called an intervalometer, which allows it to take a photo every set number of seconds. Therefore you can stick it on a tripod and leave the camera to it!

  • Well Done, I have grown up in Bridport. A really nice representation and good video!

  • @edlawrence94 Glad you like the video. I'm very relieved the locals seem to like it :)

  • This video is absolutely amazing :D

  • @williamday247 Thank you very much William. Glad you like it :)

  • @umboodybanksie

    No problem :)

I don't suppose you are planning on doing a video like this of east cliff or golden cap? I can imagine they would look astonishing with this kind of lighting.

    I'm from Beami btw :)

  • @williamday247 A couple of the West Bay shots are of East Cliff (or at least that's what I think it's called). If I were to do a Charmouth version, Golden Cap would definitely feature!

  • That is amazing, Who new Bridport could be that beautiful :3 ♥

  • @Megnog125 Thank you! Glad you like it :)

  • great video love the star trails, we both have the same interest, check out my webpage, it might interest you dorsetinanotherlight.co.uk
