  • I was in 9th Grade in Oklahoma and my father took our family to this game. You cannot believe how windy it was that day - and we won this game with back-up QB, but just barely. Uwe was awesome that day.

  • I especially like Woody at the last second of the video. A coach or trainer from Oklahoma extends his hand as if to say good game, and Woody smacks the guys arm. Great sportsmanship. Woody Hayes was not a great football coach, he was a bitter old man who didn't understand what it meant to teach sportsmanship. I agree that for most college athletes and coaches that winning should be everything, but there comes a time when you should congratulate the team that beat you.

    He never got it.

  • I was there! Big day for our guys. The OSU folks were great. I've been a fan ever since. O-H-I-O! We got paid back in Norman a few years later.

  • Woody was a bully.

  • did you see woody hays hit that OU guy who was trying to shake his hand? It's at the end of the video.

  • @AlboBmw yeah...what a jerk

  • Beautiful!!!

  • I still remember his 52 yrd kick at Farrington Field in 1975 when he was at FW Eastern Hills. That thing seemed to go a mile.

  • the commentating was soo much better back in the day

  • Father from Oklahoma and I was born in Columbus. I was 12 and decided whomever won I would support the rest of my life....Boomer Sooner.

  • I live in Ohio and was born in Ohio but I cannot stand Ohio state.

  • Its hilarious how when they call the same "ice the kicker" timeout these days, all the announcers and media nuts think this just started a few years ago.

  • van Schamann was the man

  • I'll never forget that kick......

  • Woody Hayes was a moron.

  • Woody Hayes...Sheesh!!! What a head case!!!

  • were they playing on concrete?

  • Notice in the final seconds of the clip, some OU guy tries to shake Hayes' hand and instead he whacks him in the back with his left hand.

  • That was great! I had just moved to Columbus that year and I was the only OU fan in a room full of Buckeye fans. They just knew he couldn't make that field goal and I kept telling them he had already won games under pressure so it didn't bother him .. as he led the Buckeye fans in "block that kick"... haha!

    They play again in 2010.

  • block that kick, block that kick, block that kick............

  • what a classic game with two great powerhouses..

  • my name is schamann too:D

  • WOW! as a Sooner fan, you gotta respect Ohio State. It is a great game for the first meeting of these two teams. I wish they would play each other agian.

  • As a Texas alumni I have to say that it sure is sweet to see Oklahoma do this to OhioState. Awesome game!

  • Must be, since Ohio State beat the longhorns last time out.

  • they are in 2016-17

  • They will play again in a few years...2010? Can't wait.

  • we are. we play Ohio State within the next 5 to 10 years.

  • From NE Ohio I remember how that kick broke my heart. I think Woody was asked after the game "wasn't that exciting?" Woody in his own way answered: "Exciting? I'd rather be boring as hell and win the game!"

I had deep respect for Oklahoma after that game. The wishbone was a magnificent offense to watch. I rooted for OU anytime after that (except the '83 game against the Buckeyes).

Go Bucks! Boomer Sooner! And as always, Muck you Fishigan!

  • And Tuck you, Fexass!

  • "IT COULD OF GONE 51!" to bad they cut that out.

  • funny how there was still 3 seconds left on the clock when there was 6 at the beginning of the play.

  • what do you think the clock is spouse to stay on 6.. cause soon as the ball is snapped the clock starts again why do you think nfl coaches wait till theres like 3seconds on the clock to kick the game winner

  • I think he meant that the clock should be ran out by that time. According to what you said, when coaches kick the ball with 3 seconds left, then the play takes 3 seconds then time expires. Well there was still 3 seconds left when they kicked it at 5 sec. Do the math. I know its only a difference of 1 sec but you still missunderstood him

  • I was at that game @ 9 years old. "Uwe Von Schamann" was a profanity, for years to follow, in our neighborhood pickup games. What a fabulous memory. Thanks for posting. PS: lay off Woody.

  • I was 10 and sitting in 21C. I couldnt stand that bastard for years! lol

  • Woody could handle himself!

  • Uwe von Schummann had ice water in his veins, standing at midfield during the timeout, waiving his hands like an orchestra leader, leading the Ohio State fans who were yelling "Block that kick." Then he drilled the winning field goal right down the middle.

  • yeah he pretty much shut them up haha

  • We've got to schedule this again some day...

  • I think it already is scheduled

  • Oh yeah I looked it up... 2016 and 2017. By that point the Sooner Schooner will be propelled by jetpacks and Brutus Buckeye will be a genetically modified mutant nut instead of a guy in a costume.

  • Funny line. I'm a Buckeye fan but think Brutus is goofiest mascot in the land, but we love him.

  • I was ten years old, in 21 C, about in tears after that kick! LOL What a game that one was.

  • I've been told that a sooner fan stole Woody Hayes hat and offered it to coach Switzer after the game. Man , how much for that hat?

  • love the ending...the always classy woody hayes knocking away a handshake from an OU fan.

  • I was a kid selling coke at this game....I got my feelings hurt...hah hah.
