  • dude how to fix gaming lag in gaming and mostly on cs 1.6 with w7 when I installed w7 ultimate x64 I had + 20 lag and more sometimes depending on the server do a tutor on that subject would be nice and helpful make a vid for instructions

  • @TheSilentProtector

In the future I'd recommend typing in proper english sentences, using proper spelling and grammar...when possible.

To answer you 'question', "lag" occurs because some component of your "gaming" setup is not optimized.

Make sure you are running wired network connections to all of your devices. Make sure your gaming console/computer is properly cooled, is running with hardware above the minimum requirements for the game you like, and that you aren't overtaxing the system.

  • @FHCTech

    I really shouldn't use "overtaxing"...I don't know if that's a word...

    However, "Taxing":

If you are running a gaming computer, make sure you are only running what processes you NEED to run to play the game. Don't have your antivirus program run scans in the background, don't have your internet browser open with hundreds of tabs of multimedia...don't have a torrent program running in the background..even if you are playing a single-player campaign!

  • @FHCTech Hey thanks for the tips. I think my English is good except the sentences, which I noticed after posting my answer. Yeah as for the processes thing, I have like 70 in use in general use and some of them I can't turn them off because they are system processes etc. nvm I google some of them I always try to turn them off the ones I do not use.

  • @TheSilentProtector And still at the moment I'm typing I have 69 on the run. Some Friends of mine only have 43 prosses running only and also this might be caused by the many services that are running to but I dont put hands on something I don't know very well!

  • 3.) Is there such a thing as real personal computing security or is it all just a means of leeching your money? Neither the OS or 3rd party software seems to fulfill its obligations in thwarting onlookers from monitoring my business.

  • I have modem, service, and security questions for you:

1.) Firstly, is it at all possible to prevent people from monitoring and tampering with my ADSL ATT account via 2wire modem and an XP Home SP3 equipped with MS security essentials? I seem to be having problems with this.

2.) This also applies to my ATT cell phone

    3.) Continued....

  • Wow that sucks... huge diff between Theory and Pratice -_-

  • By the way, all LAN speeds are theoretical.

  • No residential home will have 450 Mbps in the US. No ISP will even have this type of speed. Plus, who needs 450 Mbps except the government/military.

  • @missthemissles I dont need it but i want it lol.

  • @electricity512 XD same here XD

  • Wouldn't the usb 2.0 connection be the bottleneck on the little guy?

  • ............. I still have dail-up...

  • oh wait.. my 54mbit ain't good no more? RATS!

  • I WISH my internet was 450mb per second. Its like 1mb

  • @digitalfeverTV

    me too .. :((((((((((

  • that building probably has enough wireless signals going through it that it would give you cancer or something lol

  • 0:52 It looks like someone hasn't cracked windows yet.

  • HDD bottleneck

  • So I assume I can use one TEW-691 GR and several TEW-689 GA?

I want to have my Internet be shared with computers in the building 50 meters in front of mine.

  • Nice to see this channel working again!

  • i dont see the need for 450Mbps because most isp's don't go anywhere near that unless it's a fiber optic government connection, even if it's over a LAN connection it's not really needed.

  • @dedval Seriously? Increased wireless speeds are designed for LAN, not WAN. You're never going to get a sustained WAN connection anywhere near those speeds, so I am sure the target use of this product is clear.

  • lol there is 450Mb 802.11n wifi now and i´m still using 54Mb 802.11g

  • Uuuu! Shut down the wireless, so that no one hacks into it! Dude... WPA2 with AES+PSK is the best security you'll ever get! No one could EVER hack into it! Why? Well... AES encryption algorithm takes 250 trillion years to brake with the most powerful super-computer on Earth today! So good luck with that! :))

  • 6:55 GUCCI BAG.. LINUS SWAG

  • the most i have ever been able to have windows report to me on 300 MBPS N is 272... MBPS

  • you should have done the test with the gaming adapter so that usb 2 isnt be the bottleneck

  • Is cool for gaming on Console's but for PC wire is best for me... Like you said & I agree with you...

  • my laptop is wireless G and get a better ping on Call of Duty server then my wired PC

  • @Zraupp10 prove it

  • @mcmamac i'll try and re install XP on my laptop to re-install Call of Duty, note my camera isn't that great...

  • @mcmamac /watch?v=4_VSTIahwWQ

  • annyone notice the fake windows on tv ?

  • @zezerara Cuz he changes hardware around so much I guess

  • Comment removed

  • @zezerara Yea, He's told us about that before. Every time he puts something new in his computer he has to re-register Windows.

  • @zezerara

are u new to linus's videos? he explained 100000 times why his copy(ies) of windows 7 are not registered (as far as windows is concerned)

  • this microphone sux, the one linus uses is much better

  • Anyone Notice? The copy of windows is not genuine

  • You shoul unbox the german Fritzbox one time

  • @eacorion *Should (sorry)

  • @eacorion

    it sucks.

  • no legit windows 7 :P

  • Always great reviews and testing, thanks!

  • 1:53 "This copy of windows is not genuine"

  • The USB (2.0) interface is a bottleneck in this scenario.. Obviously you can't achieve anything close to 450Mb/s

  • @OriKadosh USB 2 can do 40mb/s, that is equal to 320 megaBITS/s so it is really not much of a bottleneck

  • @Woofers11 Theoretically you are right. But, in real world, you can't achieve more than 20-25MB/s using USB 2 and that equals to 160-200 megaBITS/s.

I bet the USB interface is a bottleneck, to actually confirm this guess, Linus should also do the same test using the Ethernet version.

  • do you use the galaxy s or the iphone 4?

  • So 450 Mbit/s (56,25 Mbyte/s) turned into 120 Mbit/s (15 Mbyte/s) under pretty much optimal conditions...

  • @HugRunner My 300 Mbps router turns into 1 MB/s... Makes sense doesn't it?

  • @drumsrule786 power saving mode right? i've had that before

  • @cal920c as far as I know its not that, but i've never thought of it I'll check.

  • @HugRunner I would assume bottlenecking somewhere

  • Who's galaxy S Phone??

  • nice to see that you have one REAL smartphone too

  • use the android instead of apple :)

  • "At the end of the day, watch the clip" Well Linus, its a little past midnight here on the east coast and I'm watching the end of the clip. Did I have to wait? jk

  • My 3 years old D-link DIR-655 transfers wirelessly at 15 MB/s to my 2 years old HP laptop. Trendnet = facepalm

  • his name is one letter away from linux

  • @moldjelly the name of linux's founder is actually Linus ^^

  • @mknmunk wow thats epic lawl

  • @Northgtabeast USB 2.0 can do 480 Mbps, which obviously is barely fast enough to handle 450 Mbps. HOWEVER, USB does 480 Mbps on the ENTIRE bus, not just the one port, meaning if for example you have 3 USB ports and an SD card reader (which is very likely internally connected via USB) then you have to split your 480 Mbps four ways.

  • NCIX goes Cloverfield.

  • when did you get that new smartphone?

  • It's 450Mb, NOT 450MB. Useless function..

  • you should show us a setup vid of you room, Thumbs up so he sees

  • "This copy of Windows is not genuine"

  • That's about 118 Mbits/sec. Not really even close to 450.

  • I put 2 100Mb over 1 ethernet cable... No I am making myself two adapters that combine the two wires to get 1Gigabit connection... with 100Mb RAID backup drives are slowwww

  • son of a bitch... hes complaining about getting 14MB and im getting 3MB Wired...

  • @G4m3rFr34k1337 LOLOL

  • 450 Mb/s = 59 MB/s

    that transfer was 15 MB/s and it = 114 Mb/s

  • You didn't update your Galaxy S to Gingerbread :O shame on you

  • What's the differance btween Wireless G and Wireless N?

  • @BassPounderX one is a lot faster

  • @iaktaweh i guess u dont know then

  • @BassPounderX The wireless G stands for "GOOGLE IT!"

  • @gevelegian ok faggot

  • @BassPounderX HAHA I heard only gay people are "allowed" to use that word so..., that's the best you could come up with? Google some new curse words ;)

  • @BassPounderX

802.11g supports a max speed of 108 Mb/s and works on a 2.4 Ghz band which causes not few problems of interference with much common devices like microwaves, wireless mice, etc. that work at the same frequency.

802.11n supports speeds from 108 Mb/s up to 450 Mb/s and works with 2.4 and 5 Ghz bands. The 5Ghz band solves the interference problem but provides a decreased range.

  • A latency comparaison between this and a lower end router would have been nice.

  • Comment removed

  • again the mic!

  • Hey Linus, I picked up a Trendnet 500Mb/s powerline kit and I am getting only about 800KB internal transfer speed (From a network file server to my computer and vice versa). Do you have any idea why this is? Note: Our file server with our router is only capable of 100Mb/s top transfer speed.

  • the windows is right okay ! ok :) now go.

  • can someone explain the difference between megabytes and megabits? o.0

  • @AgentHydra bytes = bits / 8

    so 100Mbit/s = 12.5MB/s

    also: small b = bits, capital B = Bytes

  • I actually bought one of those gaming adapters a few weeks ago, to get internet to my computer in my bedroom (about thirty feet horizontally, and down one floor from the router). I've been extremely impressed by it. Ping times and up/down speeds are identical to the wired connections near the router, setup was a breeze, and the price was right.

  • Look at the computer screen "This copy of windows 7 is not geniune" :P

  • @akzy he only use it for testing and its llegal to do so.. + its easy to pirate window 7 u know... everyone has geniun window7 that got it for free and it updates and all....

  • I would like 1 Tb/s !!!!!!!!

  • my bandwidth is only 25mbps so isn't it just kinda pointless compared to 300mbps router other than coverage?

  • Linus, check out teracopy, you can see after the transfer time and average speed...

  • Where's Silm Shady?

  • 1:22 Windows is not genuine :D

  • @blackfish381 its because he changes his hardware allot...

  • I recommend to place NCIX logo in bottom right corner of the video because natural eye movement is from the top left to bottom right. Just look some pro TV network signatures, it's mostly in the bottom right or top left corner.

  • I'm starting to worry that linus is a pokemon, because he keeps adding his name at the start of every video...

  • If they make a ADSL version of the router then I would buy it.

  • your voice is deeper when you record with the iphone

  • @RaivaReprimida haven't learned about world time zones yet?

  • Comment removed

  • @wiseirbis I thought Linus was american, and the time zone from here isn't that different. It was like 5 in the morning.

  • Linus maybe a video to show all these idiots about the differences in speeds, LAN's, VLANS, WANS, etc etc and how the speed of a router/switch has nothing to do with the speed of there internet connections

  • @DarkAbyss9 A switch/router is indeed important for your internet speed. I have a 100mbit/s internet connection, and if i use a 100mbit switch i ussually loose internet speed since 100mbit is just the teoretical max speed of it. I have to use a Gbit switch.

  • @DarkAbyss9 agreed the router/switch speed only affects the transfer of files betwen the network devices, not the internet.

  • fuck you people are idiots the 450Mb/s isnt the speed of your internet its the rate in which you can transfer files and how fast the LAN is not WAN

  • i just looked even full hd video does not need such speeds and if i want to move huge amount of data i can wait or just use cables

  • Linus man, I love your videos but REALLY what's up with those earrings? That's like so 90's... nowadays men who wear earrings like that just look gay (literally). Honestly you should get rid of them. I know it your "style", but some styles need to change. Sorry if this seems like a troll comment, it's not meant to be. Just being honest! (the earrings look gay!).

  • why would you need such speeds there is no chance you can saturate these speeds

  • the highest MB (megabyte not megabit) is 56 per second.

  • @Umbra360 well the UK is getting 100MB connection which is in testing now..... I doubt thats the highest

  • @coolmitchg you mean 100/100 mbit that the rest of the world has had the past 10 years ?

  • @Pallepop909 of course lol, the UK is always behind :)

  • @coolmitchg i meant for that router. 1Megabyte is 8 megabits.

  • linus is a boss , if you agree thumbs up this comment :)

  • This is slow. I got with my TP-Link 150mbps Lite-N router about 10-15MB/s in realworld scenario on my laptop!

  • @Northgtabeast you probably won't get 450Mbps effectively on the other side. My router and adapter say I should get 300Mbps and I only get about 10-20 (I got an 120Mbps subscription).

  • 450Mb/s ???? i only got 10Mb/s home...

  • @bigv111111 450Mb/s, yes. But you probably get 10MB/s at home.. There is a difference between bits (b) and bytes (B). 1 byte = 8 bits, 10 bytes = 80 bits, 10MB/10 000 bytes = 80Mb/80 000 bits etc.

    : )

  • more linus tech tips plzzzzzzzzzz

  • that video is almost 2 weeks old....

oh btw... get a new mic!

  • @hirolla888 Yeah, true... Can you tell me how they're different?

  • YEY! Linus got android!!!! =D

  • Haaa, Linus your copy of Windows is not genuine

  • @autopsiemorga it's probably because he does so many hardware changes on his rigs, that there's no point constantly re-activating windows

  • YOu got your hair back thx god!

  • HA! Linus got rid of his iPhone! what an hero!

  • @turbz123 Nah dude, he's filming that video with his iPhone.. haha

  • voice is delayed

  • @hirolla888 damn, I thought the difference was minor. 450 megabits=15 megabytes? That's a little too much..

  • linus is married!?!

  • Wheres Eminem?

  • Just put the plug at the power point , you don't need that stupid switch

  • So you basically need a SSD to even use it..

  • @costescuandrei1975 450 mbit/s = 56.25 mbytes/s (aka MB/s), even 5400rpm laptop HDDs can write that fast.

  • linus...when there is a microphone less than 20cm away from your mouth...you don't need to shout!!!!!!!

  • should do a retest through a couple of walls

  • Why doesnt TrendNet forexample, cooperate with HP to make a notebook with INTEGRATED 450mbps wireless. Just sayin...

  • @TheComputerNerd0101 cause Intel's integrated adapters (Advanced-N / Ultimate-N) are superior to TrendNet ones.

  • Linus, do you cut your own hair?

  • Will this blend?

  • oh wow that pretty cool

  • I just can't understand how Power line network work

  • 450mb a SECOND! I GET 2MB IN AUSTRALIA

  • my internet sucks....I have bearly 1 mb/second ;(

  • I'm still stuck with 54 Mbps. Linus' Duke-hair is gone!

  • whats the point of a 450 Mb/s wireless interface - i mean who actually has a 450 mb/s internet connection

  • @masterkjn Future proofing?

  • @masterkjn Data transfer, where you can not have Gblan?

  • So...where to get such a connection?...I only got 7 mb/sec lol

  • Whoa Linus when did you get a Samsung Galaxy S?

  • @GetInIGotCandy I do believe he said in a previous video that it was his wife's.

  • I prefer how the Linksys E4200 router looks. Is that bad?

  • thats good speed for wireless

    i get 18 from ethernet

  • "BAAAWWWWW!! I HATE APPLE PRODUCTS!" - Every prissy faggot disliking this video.

  • 14MB/s is no where near 450mbps lol

  • @Luger718A1 Welcome to the world of overstated numbers, kiddo.

  • finally a video withe not so many dislikes. i like mac

  • Hmm

  • Finally, wireless is getting closer to being able to stream 1080p video... at least in terms of throughput being enough to offset latency.

  • @grambo22 most 1080p rips have max. ~20 mbit/s bandwidth and average of 10-15, with decent player (that buffers enough data while playing, say 32 MB's) even 802.11g is capable of that, at signalling rate of 54 mbit/s and real data rate of 24 mbit/s.

  • @ShadowwwLFS That only allows a 12Mbit stream, and thats only with a good signal.

  • @ryanevans92 I am getting 24 mbit/s fairly easily with my WRT54GL 1.1 flashed to Tomato (USB/VPN mod) build 54, with Realtek 8187SE card. :3

  • @ShadowwwLFS i can only get 24Mbit when its wired to wireless, wireless to wireless halves it. :(

  • @ryanevans92 Um, what you mean by "wireless to wireless"? When your router uses some other wi-fi network as WAN? Of course that'd halve it, as it has 2x as much data to transfer over same wireless chip :P

  • @ShadowwwLFS Thanks... a few years ago we tried using an old WRT54G wifi router with a Popcorn Hour (first gen) to play 1080p MKVs (10-15mbit/s bitrates) and although we could get the throughput (tested on other devices), there were latency/buffering issues that made playback unreliable. I assume with current generation streaming devices this has been fixed. Good to know as I will probably use wifi for this purpose soon. We now have a Linksys 310N (cheap gigabit/draft-N router).

  • @grambo22 I think it's due to your media player. I was using Media Player Classic, and H T T P (why youtube doesn't lets me post a comment if I have that word written without spaces?) streaming, and it was doing just fine in places where movie's bandwidth spikes up (e.g. fast camera movement, explosions, etc) - cause it was buffering few megabytes in advance.
