  • i wonder if it would be a good idea to have a hose go up through the inner tube and terminate at the top so that you are not pushing air as air has resistance hho has smaller molicules and flows faster.. just a thought.. i like the design good job luther..scott

  • Thank you.

I added tubing to the center of the later versions (the ones I was selling previously), but not for the reason you mentioned.

It was more as a safety concern than anything else.

  • I found there was some friction using the 1 1/2" thinwall pvc for the maintube. I used sch 40 2" pvc for my maintube and found that it moves more freely.

I don't believe the exact diameter of this tube is that critical since it's basically used to create the water seal. The inner 'gas supply' tube is more important to prevent flopping and extra volume that might be introduced as the innner 'meter tube' rises.

I agree your design is great and thanks for sharing your ideas and clear instruction.

  • that inside tube is genius.

Its a tough balance between working height/size/materials, ease of use and build and using available parts huh.

    Nicely done!

  • Thank you. I appreciate the compliment.

I hear tell of some larger diameter clear packing tube out there, but I have yet to see one.

If someone was looking for a larger capacity meter, I would suggest finding a larger diameter light weight measurement tube as the larger volume versions of this design are quite tall.

  • funny name, good little thing you have there but couldnt you just use a flow meter from the welding shop?

  • Yes you could if all you wanted was an estimate of volume.

If you are trying to prove the efficiency of your cell to others (MMW), then one needs to know the volume of gas that was released within a set period of time accurately.

Bouncing ball flow measurements are subjective at best. They have their place and can be useful, but calculating accurate efficiency ratings is not one of them.

    Cheers

  • i guess thats fair enough

  • I like your flow meter design! We need more accurate measurements.

  • most excellent Idea and a great video

  • Thank you very much.

  • Really nice Luther! The best one that I have seen.

  • Thank for the kudos.

  • good video Lutherp40...very informative!

  • Thank you for your comment.
