Ultrasounds use high-frequency sound waves, therefor are not harmful. On the other hand, x-rays use radiation to form images which is why they are considered unsafe. To respond to MomtoLolo, not all 3D ultrasounds have the babys turned around or with their hand over their face, this happens every once in a great while and is most likely because of pressure from the probe. This is the same amount of pressure as say for instance a family member rubbing your belly. Just FYI :)
Maybe 3d ultrasounds and ultrasounds in general are responsible for Autism, ADHD, and all the other increase in disabilities that we are unable to pin point a cause!!! Just a thought....

How safe is this really for the baby??? You are not suppose to be x-rayed or even close to that, yet ultrasounds and 3d ultrasounds are considered safe? Most of the people I know that have this done say that the baby hides it's face or covers up and turns around...could this be because it is painful or causing harm. Ultrasounds have never been studied for their safeness, women use to be x-rayed when pregnant and then doctors figured out that this was causing birth defects.
I actually think this is pretty cool that you can see features and facial expressions. It's very expensive, however, if it's something as special as your baby, it's worth it! Plus you can keep sharing the memories and even show it to the child when they are older. I would do it. haha hopefully I have the money then.
Diagnostic Sonography (Ultrasound) was invented as a diagnostic tool! Not for show.
3D can only see the outside or skin. It is very limited in diagnosing abnormalities. Remember to ask for a complete diagnostic ultrasound test and not for a show.
People pay so much just to see the baby in 3D!
I cannot imagine what is more 3D than a real baby in the hands of the mother / father.
DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY!!! Spend your money in your baby needs!!!
