  • What is better? The Iron Cobra or the Speed Cobra?

  • whats his stack to the right of his kit ???

  • Hell!

  • Peter Will Do Her ... hehe

  • sand ride ftw

  • Maybe it's because I had the spring tension somewhat low but the Cobra Coil was bringing the footboard back faster than the beater, creating slack in the chain and causing a clunking/clicking feeling. And that's exactly why I thought the Coil is a bad idea. It would make way more sense on a direct drive pedal. I'm still going to experiment but I'll probably just remove the Coil. The Speed Cobra still feels really good without it anyway. I think the Cobra Coil is a pretty flawed idea.

  • @blackwash I thought the cobra coil was an awesome idea, until I got my pedals this morning and noticed how flimsy they are.

  • @blackwash You know that you can remove the cobra coil back and fourth to make variation of how fast you want the pedal to push back after a kick. I didn't know that when I first bought them and that became a big problem to me. Now when I know I love the cobra coil =)

  • peter wildoer rules i fucking love darkane so much and i want this pedal so badly

  • this guy is simply awesome, it's a shame i fairly recently learned of his existence (through the dream theater doumentary) and not earlier HE'S FANTASTIC

  • Peter Wildoer drumheads giveaway!

Three signed Evans EC2 drumheads that were used by Peter Wildoer for the recording of James LaBrie 'Static impulse' and the Dream Theater audition rehearsals are up for a giveaway "contest". Interested? Visit peterwildoer[dot]com and read the news section for details.

The heads were used in these video clips:

    youtube[dot]com/watch?v=TrcWTLhu5F8

    youtube[dot]com/watch?v=CJw-8kXBRjI

  • under his name it should of read darkane, james laBrie, dream theater

  • @houseshoesbto I agree that peter would be good for dt, also marco minneman would be good. but mike mangini seems like the perfect choice, they are all best friends. It would be awkward with anybody else.

  • @ShittyMcPoopyBalls its true i just think he's a little bit underlooked

  • @ShittyMcPoopyBalls Marco would have been more interesting, but Mike was the only drummer who had the same level of experience as the rest of dream theater. I think that's the reason they chose him.

Probably also a good idea, especially during live shows. Honestly i like Marco more though, i thought his input in the jams was the most interesting of everyone who tried out.

  • @molomono This sounds too ignorant, but marco has very little experience in bands and is too young to be in dream theater, mangini is a master of theory and playing, it's just a perfect fit.

  • @ShittyMcPoopyBalls You don't even acknowledge my opinion in stating that marco has a more interesting input. It's my opinion. Not to mention you repeat the same argumentation, Mangini has more experience than Marco.

I just liked Marco's style more, but he lacks experience which Mangini did not. Which is why i think Mangini is a better more secure choice for an already highly respected band such as DT.

  • @molomono Sorry then? I liked when Mangini took the progressive jam session and made it fun, Marco was too simple, Mangini obviously will have more "input", the guy is a god.

  • @ShittyMcPoopyBalls Mike's input was more technically advanced, but that doesn't mean their better.

The way Marco was accenting his groves was 100% in the context of the song, yet it gave simple groves much more depth.

They're 2 sides of the same coin

I don't think they showed enough of marco riffing with the band, but judging from the little bits in between the playing sessions where marco is just having fun with Petrucci playing stuff, the chemistry is right, and the groves feel just right.

  • what song is that played a last?? I really wanna know! Somebody??

  • i like the china on a hihat stand, might have to steal that idea :p

  • @chilly2829 It's because it's a stack, he's got another cymbal underneath, otherwise he'd have it on a normal stand :P

  • 0:49 intro from Mislead?

  • I see alot of drummers using tama drums and meinl cymbals all the time lol

  • @DillworthDrummer I see the combination of Meinl and Sonor with german drummers. Weird, huh? Otherwise I see Tamas with Sabians or Paiste cymbals more often... (However between metal drummers Meinl seems to be very popular)

  • @VitRadek i think metal is popular with meinl, not the other way around :)

  • @allmetaliswelcome Who knows? :D You're right, I can't see how I said something different (but it's possible, english is my second language)

  • @VitRadek what you ment is metal drummers like meinl, i ment that meinl endorses a lot of metal drummers, and english isn't my first language either :)

  • @allmetaliswelcome It's right either way, Meinl makes Mb20 line which metal drummers love (personal references from some friends)

  • call me a fag, but the only reason why i wont get this pedal is cuz it looks so god damn ugly. i mean its really good and all but dude it just looks ugly. i know its not about the looks. but idk its just me.

  • Death metal on a four-piece kit FTW

  • @29dave And with Sandride :D

  • @Gigarada Yeah, ain't it lovely?! ;-)

    Cheers

    Peter Wildoer

  • @Wildoerfaren I really love this video because I'm a bit of drum kit minimalist. This and sandride in this video make me happy somehow (even though I don't love metal drumming)

  • @VitRadek Cool you like the video. Yeah, a smaller kit sometimes forces you to be creative in different ways. At least for me who is used to bigger kits. :-) Perhaps this is an introduction to metal music, ha ha ha... ;-)

    Cheers,

    Peter

  • @Wildoerfaren I listen to metal music, I just doesn't satisfy me to play it :D

I totally agree with you, I have to force myself to be creative plus I would find anything more than I currently have on my setup (I use 14" and 10" snares, 10" tom and 14" floor tom) useless for me...

By the way I really like the sound of your bell, I wish I could find one that sounds like that..

  • @Wildoerfaren hey peter, what is the little bell you're playing on?

by the way you did an awesome job at the DT audition!

  • @29dave Well I really enjoyed it! I love playing a "normal" kit.

    Cheers and Stay Metal!

    Peter Wildoer

  • Damn man idk what to get, a dw 9002 or tama speed cobras

  • @superkadeemx Get a Falcon :D

  • @superkadeemx speed cobra all the way

  • @superkadeemx Speed Cobra indeed! Especially on the twin, you'll play lightning fast without having to apply that much force. The beater can make lots of attack when the pointy ends hit the bass drum directly. The longer footboard will make playing comfotable and the performance will be maximized since there's no friction of the bearing.

  • all they talk about is fast.....does it do anything besides going fast

  • @zackattack94 what u want em to do stupid pedal tricks? lol

  • Hey there! Thanks for watching the clip. Here's what I use in the clip: Tama Bubinga Elite drums 22" Kick, 10" Tom, 16" Floor tom Tama Bubinga Elite 12" Snare Meinl 14" Byzance Rock hihat Meinl 20" Benny Greb Sand ride Meinl 17" Mb10 Medium crash Meinl stack, Bottom 17" GenerationX China crash, Top 18" Byzance Flat china 6" Custom bell Cheers, Peter wildoer
  • @Wildoerfaren

    goddammit i love you.

  • Comment removed

  • that's the nicest sounding china ever, what is it?

  • wouldve been better with dave lombardo

  • how about you get better at the pedal than get a clip of you playing something cool

  • Awesome stuff :)

  • They should do Jason Costa

  • @Hammy0924 Jason Costa might be cool, but he can't do half of what Peter can.

  • I thought I would play ludwig speedkings forever but in a pinch I got one of these Speedcobras and I love it. I still prefer the solid piece of metal over the chain, but it feels a lot like a speedking without any of the draw backs. Tama: Make one without a chain please!!!

  • A metal drummer using Benny Greb's sand ride? AWESOME!

  • Please do one with Tim Alexander

  • awesome vid tama!

  • What's the cymbal on his very right?

  • @risingskater looks like a stack to me, or it could be the cymbals line of a chinese cymbals i dont know i play sabian not meinl

  • @risingskater it looks like (or sounds like) two chinas sitting on top of each other. but dont quote me on that haha. im not entirely sure. thats just what it sounds like to me.

  • @risingskater oh wait i see it now, yeah its two chinas (smaller one on bottom, and larger on top) put together on a hihat stand

  • his drumkit's tiny! none the less a great drummer!!
