@m98m99 I'm not saying that soviets banned the language. rather, they tried to build cultural barriers between kazak, uyghur -inline with china,- turkmen, uzbek, azeri people. cultural barriers do indeed develop in time, and usually because of political seperation. what I'm saying is that, uyghur politics at the end of 19.th century found their "salvation" to build strong friendship with turkey, rather then other turkic nationalities.

We don't wear burqa, we don't do the "honor killing", we pay women respects, we have the "real" secularism long before any Muslim country (for example, Turkey), we don't kill Christians. If you want to see these things, go to Turkey to see it , or Google with search keywords "Turkey" with "burqa", "honor killing" or "killing Christians".

Its obvious that the reason why the Chinese kept the Arabic script for Uyghurs in East Turkistan is to cut them off from their linguistic relatives in Central Asia. Ataturk's change was to secularize Turkey, and by "unlearning " the Arabic script this put additional walls between being able to read the Koran Arabic. Ironically, the CCCP, in shutting the door to the Soviet influenced heartland in central Asia preserved the tie to a deeper Islamic past.
