This is so freaking beautiful. I don't even know how many times I've listened to it, and I say 'listen to it' because I've downloaded the audio to listen to off my iphone. Believe me, laying in bed at night with all the lights off with only this to listen to is truly beautiful.
thank you Anis for reminding me of the onceuponatime paris memories i drank down & carried with me, a bottle of wine, parfum, typewriter ink, the tears of all poets who held any quality in their words of beauty and strength. Yr a real mensch.
with the love of redwood trees and wide wild rivers, I kiss you & yr poems in gratitude. Robin Rule rdwpress@gmail.com
@threecalifornians you are extremely right he gives people inspiration and a look into a beautiful part of anyone's past those moments when the simplest things held more beauty than air he is truly amazing
I can't stop listening/watching this. It brings tears to my eyes. Is there somewhere were I can find the poem written or a recording of this that I can download for my ipod?
it's just something about his voice. diction. accent? delivery? *faints* talk about solitary tear running down my cheek at the end *smh* this is beautiful.
Does anybody know where I can the written words of this? I want to put it on the front of my binder to see everyday, but I can't understand all the words right and I would like to have it written somewhere. It's so inspirational. I cried
@hikatieloll Well, yes and no. Most of the obscure lines in the opening section are art references, which makes sense as he has his MFA. Things like 'feed grapes to the ants' is a reference to Dali, because he would paint Ants to symbolize death and decay. So here Anis is saying that we should encourage the breakdown of what is previously held in love, art, and society.
@mudanat my guess would be because of the Venus de Milo in the Louvre which he mentions there is also the line about "an armless mother praying for her arms to return" hope that helps
@mudanat Milos is the Island that the Venus comes from, and now she resides in The Louvre. Anis told me that this poem is just a different kind of love poem than he had ever written.
This poem is absolutely amazing. Anis, you have allowed me to travel back to a rather happy time in my life with this poem... i love it... it makes you reminisce about your first true love... lol it makes me smile inside... Thanks you Anis...
his poetry takes everyone back to the place of purity and truth that we've all lost with tme...each & every poem of his that i've heard has hit me in the same place.
i place that i havent visited since i was a child.
he cultivates a purity that we only reminses about...
so many nights i have listened to this and any other video of yours i can find over and over on repeat even though there is no button of such. laughing with the lines i can relate to, and crying to the lines i cant relate to, and can truly say to anis, thank you, for being able to speak what i am not able to.
beautiful. I just watched another poem perfomed in NYC which was really similar, it was great to see how he changed and adapted and worked on that version to produce this. I wish I was this talented
He's performing on Sunday the 15th in Portland, backspace.bz, go if you are at all able to.

at the end, does he say "our love is an apple" or "our love is an arrow"? anyone?

@brosehemian arrow.

@brosehemian or maybe it is apple lol. not sure anymore.

@brosehemian "sarah, we are apples, our love is an apple"

@brosehemian "sarah, we are apples, our love is an arrow, i'm unbuttoning my shirt, painting a circle over my heart, please, just shoot straight."
"our love is an arrow" makes much more sense than "our love is an apple". just listen to the entire thing in context.

@FU7IM7CANADIAN shadow that we are trying to lose.
Let every giggle be filled with lust; let us laugh this night away and i will fuck you like you were a prayer.
I could save me by having my mouth around you,
and i will hold you afterwards like you were the pullpit and i was the sky,
and this love that danced between that hardness was a telephone line of holiness that those two things spoke through.
