The one commercial that I remember for this soap came out around 74-76. It was some guy as a movie actor in a western. He talked about how grimy and dirty he got on the set while making the movie. After that, they showed him in the shower using Lifebuoy.
Dear gulliaume: Thank you for verifying that. Because honestly, at first,it was driving me crazy! I thought of him just the other day again, when I ran across a clip on "youtube" from one of my favorite movies, the Billy Wilder-scripted "Midnight". And of course, he was absolutely terrific as Garbo's "confidant" in "Camille". Beyond that, and what he was doing during all those years in- between, remain shrouded in mystery -- at least to me! Thanks again. Best,R.J.
The actor portraying the "butler" was instantly recognizable -- but I couldn't at first place him. I just saw him in my mind as young, fairly good-looking actor in the 1930's. Then it came to me, suddenly: Could it be -- yes, I think it was! Rex O'Malley, (Garbo's "confidante" in "Camille", Ditto Claudette Colbert's in "Midnight"). A wonderfully witty, brittle character-man! R.J.
No, as peterproscia states just below, that was Christopher Hewett, pre-mustache and pre-Mr. Belvedere. I read once that he had to film this commercial w/ a plastic "bar of soap" that had sharp edges on it, and he was cutting his skin on the edges repeatedly during filming. Someone on the set was using skin-colored bandages to cover the cuts. That sounds like a painful day of filming!
It would be great if after the butler asks him if he liked the shower, Mr. Belvedere responded with "How would you like to go back to teasing hair?"*(*refer to "The Producers").
Yes, that's Christopher Hewett as the "Lifebuoy junkie", some time after he appeared in "The Producers". Try and find "Lifebuoy" soap {even with mint!} on your grocer's shelf...the only place it's still marketed....is India!

Any TV ads for Lifebuoy soap that end with the foghorn imitation "BeeeeeeeOhhhhhhh"?

I really enjoyed this Lifebuoy commercial. I like the Lifebuoy wrapper in this commercial the best as well. Thank you for posting.

Not only did he play the director of "Springtime For Hitler" in the original Producers, he played Mr Belvedere on the T.V. show of the same name.
