This was a hard song to find, thanks for posting.I saw Wells several times in Chicago , Once he opened for Tom Waits at the Ivanhoe early 80s.....I was in heaven.
These guys were totally into this music. You could see it in the eyes of the girls in the audience. They knew they didn't stand a chance as long as the guys were jammin.
This was the first performance of Junior Wells that I saw and my first reaction was to pick my jaw off the floor....he's got a quality that is rare huh?
Theresa's was on the South Side, 47th and Indiana. See Steve Tomashefsky's great liner notes for the Delmark Live at Theresa's album for the most accurate description in print.
Chicago was an interesting place for French enthusiasts during 70's.Marcelle and Luc Nicolas Morgantini visited blues clubs Ma Bea's,Big Duke's and Golden Slipper and later issued some excellent Live LP's in a series called 'Chicago Blues Nights....Direct from Chicago'
Yea, its very glottal and percussive...reminds me of a hen clucking (in a badass way). Such a unique and cool sound, he's my idol. Between his harmonica, voice, and Buddy's guitar, its like emotional overload...those dudes had SOUL!
I've heard it described that Mr. Blakemore (Junior Wells) played Theresa's as his own personal instrument. This video leaves no doubt. Simply, the best.
I sat at that middle table more than a few times in the late seventies. It was a dollar cover and a dollar for a budweiser and the best night out when you were really tired after working all week. But the smoke in the air was so thick I could barely keep my eyes open.
Teresa's was a great joint, wasn't it? Wish I had a photo from outside the club. I remember one night when the guitar player headliner whose name escapes me complained about "a boil on my ass" and Junior, apologizing for Teresa's insistence that we pay a second cover charge for the second set, paid it himself.
1. That hat just screams the blues! 2. "sweet, soft and funky" just like i like my women... I could go on aaallll night ...but seriously folks, this music right here is DEEP.
Luv this place...fond memories! No other place quite like it!

There have been lots of great bluesmen, but JW stands out as not only great, but very original, he sounds like nobody else.

In the land of people with one hat the man with two hats will be king.
Great players, Junior had a lovely, choked tone to his harp.
