When you call a cop "fuck-face" you can bet shit's gonna go down. Not to mention that it's also verbally assulting an office, which you can be charged for.
Principle number 9 of the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms: Everyone has the right not to be arbitrarily detained or imprisoned. Fuck the police!
No wonder the cops were mad - they had to deal with the unfounded sense of entitlement exhibited by the SFUO. The SFUO was intentionally provoking the police verbally and attempting to intimidate them with cameras in their face. Have some respect for the people who risk their lives for you every day.
PS - following someone while filming them one foot away and constantly communicating with them fits the definition of criminal harassment.

Typical gutless fucking coward pig. Doesn't have the brain or the balls to explain his actions, so he just arrests anyone who dares question his (illegal) actions. Oink oink, Constable Bacon. I guess he made sergeant by making his quota of illegal arrests...

haha dumbasses!!!! you guys don't know when to shut the fuck. plus cussing at an officer or any one is called verbal abuse you was he was arrested for verbal abuse.

ya they are renting the office which means they don't own it therefore its university property which means marc kelly isn't allowed there plus the officer doesn't need a warrant to go in and arrest a person thats not allowed to be there good job Ottawa police
The cops tells him not to swear or he will go to jail and then the loser calls him a fuck face......What employer would ever hire this guy with this video out there....This the the best person that the student body could find... The camera guy must be studying the sadam hussein course on creative media...under arrest for getting a lease....really..
@zlafosse Do you know ANYTHING about Marc Kelly's case, or about what actually happened here? @bubbamackdaddy69 . Yes, you do have the freedom of speech, but using any abusive languages in public or directly to anyone can get you arrested. Now to be clear. The guy isnt spending the night in jail. He's just being ticketed and given a court date then sent home.
But bottom line. The law is very simple. Keep your ass in line, and you'll never have to deal with the Police ;)
If you need to bitch about the law, its not the OPS that makes it. Its the goverment.
Wow. Goes to show the quality of Ottawa U. The SFUO president gets arrested for telling the way it is; the best grounds that the cop can use is a 'disturbance of the peace' on account of THE COP being the biggest buffoon and moron this side of the river, and the best comments that I have read revolve around calling Mr. Wolfe a gay fish.
What did Seamus think he was going to accomplish by all of this? It's not the smartest thing to antagonize a police officer. It's not like the officer was being an ass, he was walking away whilst these two barked at him. He doesn't need to answer to them, students can be so self righteous.
i don't see how anybody can support mr wolfe's actions. instead of taking a reasonable approach (perhaps getting the officer's name, badge number, and going to the station and discussing this with the officer's superior, maybe even going over the law with them) he decided to resort to cursing, personal attacks, and verbal abuse. in no situation is this going to help you with cops. he didn't say "i disagree with the legitimacy of your authority", he said "fuckface".
Mark Kelly's arrest was completely justified. Wolfe's arrest was unjustified. The guy holding the camera should have been arrested just for being so irritating.
I wouldn't. Not when the cop is a meathead who is completely ignorant of the rules that he is supposed to uphold. Furthermore, when he's called on it, the best he can do is hide behind his badge
i have a feeling that pig was keeping his mouth shut to provoke seamus. i am not well versed in law matters, but to me the least the cop could have done was talked to seamus and the camera man and explained what had happened, after all while the sfuo may not be the owners of that property they legally use it and should have a right to know what's going on in their rented property.
sorry, nice try but wrong. there are many more than just two sides to this. i do not accept your theory of a slave culture, where if you agree with the cops you're a happy slave and if you don't you're an unhappy slave. i look at each use of authority in a case-by-case basis and judge the situation accordingly. authority is a reality of human nature. it is necessary to maintain this social contract that glues our whole civilization together.
The fact that his actions constitute a public disturbance is also legitimate if for no other reason than that they go far beyond what is accepted as the normal goings-on of society. Seamus and others like him make students look bad and discredit our other LEGITIMATE causes. Had he taken 10 minutes to examine the laws that he was boasting to know better than the police, he would realize his mistake, return to his office, and do the job that we the students pay him $30,000 a year to do.
What a joke. The police have a legal right to enter any property if given permission. The SFUO rents that space from the U of O but is not the legal owner of it. Also the arrest is for trespassing, which he would've had to do in order to enter the office, and the police have the right to pursue a violator of the law no matter where he goes to evade arrest. As far as Seamus goes, swearing constitutes "fighting language" which under certain circumstances (this one included) is grounds for arrest.
fuck the police. i'm all for power to the people, but these mouthy little shit bags really shoulda got clubbed out or something. it's pretty sad trying to watch this little dweeb try and prove something to the cop, and then he runs away at the end. fuckin douche
Most of you with opinions are funny as shit - it's easy to confidently express them when you're behind a keyboard, yet none of you were there and as such don't know the full context of the situation.
Fucking hilarious!
Pigs are cunts, stop acting like they're not people just playing a well practiced role, they're still fucking douche bags who have one of the shittiest jobs in the world - this is an example of why.
@hypur Buddy why don't you go pick up your picket sign and go lobby for drop-fees and some socialism programs or something. Or perhaps study for your coveted Arts degree? You're just another self-entitled little shit, and not half as smart as you think you are.
You don't even know me, but nice try. You read one comment by me, and you've already created your little formula about who you THINK i am and put me into one of your little boxes. Nice try. Try Richard Ivey's School of business, Try that I currently run a small business on th side in addition to university that raked in 30,000 revenue and 10,000 in profit it's first year, try that i'm fucking smarter than you'll ever be, and that pisses you right the fuck off.
PS: You know more about politics than I do, you spew the lingo like it's you're job. And self-entitled fits you perfectly, have you ever heard the saying: "it's all a mirror". Only someone as emotionally involved or as pretentious as you wold tell me who i am, what degree i'm taking, and what kind of psychology i've got running in my mind, ALL from ONE paragraph. Stop acting like such an emotional puss bag and takes your comments to a place where people are stupid enough to listen to you.
He was not under arrest for obtaining the lease, he was under arrest for calling the police officer a fuck face. Any fucking sensible person knows that.
I think the cops handled this badly, but considering the people they had to deal with, they did the best they could. I am a new age tree hugger (post below) but I realize that talking police officer like that, even before the swearing, puts you in the wrong.
Love watching all the tree hugging new age fuck ups get a dose of reality. They are so stupid. The property doesn't belong to them and the police don't need a SEARCH warrant because they weren't searching for anything. The entire university is private property and they have every right to decide who can and cannot attend and what sort of behaviour is acceptable. Hippie fuckups will never understand.
so if there was sombody in your rented apartment and your land lord dident like him the police have his permission to enter when ever they want dumbass take a law class i know i have
GodlessPeace you need to get your head checked and fuckyou68686 I hope you realize these 'pigs' guard you while you sleep, keep the streets safe and many have died protecting the general public from street scum. you disgust me with your comment
"Woah...I have to say that seeing the first part of this video changes my opinion about what happens in the second part."
See comments to Part-I. That's the part where the cop says he need to see the lease and then force themselves into to student appeal centre office... etc.
See the "UofOWatch" blog for background articles. Click on the Label "Marc Kelly" for articles about how the U had gone after this math-physics student (arrested in Part-I).
this is not a police state. that's ridiculous, and offensive to anybody who has ever lived in a police state and fled to come here. we have rights. more than most people in the world. canada is not a police state. and cops have been dicks since before harper.
Absolutely no one gives a fuck about this ugly fag activist, he looks like a bird. Also everyone in the SFUO looks like a Hippi, ugly bearded people with shitty degrees. The fact you dumb ass wipes think your election platforms will work, makes you all retards.
WAIT WAIT --DROP FEE'S!!! actually lets make it all free. plus A+ for everyone,
(you guys are as realistic as my shit singing opera while dresses up in a tuxedo.)
Wow these kids know nothing about the law... their rights were not violated. They acted like such little shits. I love how the cameraman cries out that Seamus is being arrested;
NEWSFLASH: 99% of uOttawa doesn't care about the SFUO or Seamus Wolfe. We are here for degrees.
@zlafosse Do you know ANYTHING about Marc Kelly's case, or about what actually happened here? If 99% of uOttawa doesn't care about their OWN STUDENT FEDERATION (which I find hard to believe, as it has a lot to do with their degrees) then 99% of my school are morons. I'm embarassed to go to the same school as people like you.

love how seamus managed to lightly put down his coffee cup while the officer was using "force". A family member of mine is a police officer and that is a common move to place someone under arrest when resisting, it is way less painful than seamus led on. I will be so glad when he is out of the SFUO, waste of our fees on this guy. By the way Mr. Wolfe, it is the owner who has the right to let police onto the property not the leaser... have fun fighting pointless fights but no longer in our SFUO..
The guy was trespassing on Ottawa U property. Doesn't matter who was leasing that shit, the property is still on U of O campus. And he was FORBIDDEN from being on the grounds, = arrest.
The SFUO president was acting like a total douche, and clearly didn't understand the simple concept of trespassing. Him and the camera man were just being typical anti-authority hippie douchebags.
I would have arrested his ass too if i were that cop.
He should never have been on property in the first place. There is no reason this meeting could not have been arranged elsewhere. Good job future lawyers of the SFUO.
As for Seamus; he was badgering the officer and was warned not to curse at him. It's a disruption of a public space. An agent of the university would be granted the power to arrest such an individual anyway. He got his warning and ignored it. Then he was asked twice to comply before the officer applied minimal force. Textbook.
A police officer, may arrest without warrant any person he or she believes on reasonable and probable grounds to be on the premises in contravention of section 2.
2. (1) Every person who is not acting under a right or authority conferred by law
(i) enters on premises when entry is prohibited under this Act, or
(ii) engages in an activity on premises when the activity is prohibited under this Act; or
(1) The relevant legal concept for the Trespass Act is "LEGAL OCCUPIER" not "owner". Your landlord cannot trespass your visiting friend from your rented apartment AND your friend has right of passage through the building lobby and into the elevator...! duh.
(2) Swearing to a cop is not a bona fide public disturbance. Swearing is not illegal. You can use swearing to communicate your disagreement and frustration and anger to a cop. This was a false arrest.
"bona fide public disturbance"? bona fide is latin for good faith. what are you talking about ? bona fide public disturbance.
seamus wolfe was not "communicate his disagreement and frustration" to a cop. he called him FUCKFACE. what did he expect to happen? that's verbal abuse, harassment, etc. he's an idiot for provoking a police officer. when he said "fuck!" the cop just told him to watch his language. when he called him "fuckface" he stepped over the line. this should be abundantly clear
For background about the Marc Kelly academic freedom case at the University of Ottawa please consult the "UofOWatch" blog. Click on the "Marc Kelly" label for nine or more articles about the case, including the university actions against him.
I was a lot more sympathetic to what happened before I watched this video.
A lease does not constitute legal ownership of a property, it only says that they may use that space, but it remains the legal property of the University of Ottawa.
As there is a tresspass warrant issued against Marc Kelly, banning him from uOttawa property, he is not allowed on uOttawa property.
haha...epic dude. I really feel bad for Marc Kelly. All the time he's spent at uOttawa has been to waste, which is pretty much a couple years of his life. LAWSUIT! Not only are the cops dicks here but also the uOttawa security.
as a policer officer he cannot be "disturbed" therefore he is illegally arresting this guy! lol jeeeeez talk about bad policing.. i hope the they fight this!
The Trespass to Property Act gives the OCCUPIER (not owner) authority to declare someone a trespasser, and if the student union was leasing this space, the police illegally entered their premises to arrest Kelly.
And it is not a crime to swear in public in Canada. In R. v. Lohnes, the Supreme Court decided that an actual public disturbance that interfered with the space had to take place, and that cops cannot arrest someone just for cursing
lol this made my year. especially the part where he simulated brute force by taking a dive. i bet wolfe would be an excellent soccer player (as opposed to student leader).
as a student of the UofO I am discussed by this. Like you can seriously get arrested for swearing? No one finds it interesting that the cop arrests a person without telling him his rights? Abuse of power? So in Ontario, you can get arrested and the cop doesn't have to inform you about your rights? Or they can do it like maybe an hour or half an hour later? Wow, I already had a pretty bad impression about this city's cops, this just confirms it.
I'm no expert but since he had a trespass to property ban on him, he broke the law as soon as he re-entered the building. He deserved to be arrested and I hope that he is punished to the full extent of the law. Also, even if they are the legal occupiers, they are not the owners and do not have the right to bar the police from the premises. I could be wrong but I don't think so. If I am, please let me know.
Showed how much students care about their student government. No one even stopped to watch the President being arrested. He is a bit extreme so I am sure its not the first time.
HAhahah the comments by the camera man are hilarious! Im sure he didnt help anything - and especially how nobody cared when he was screaming that Wolfe was under arrest!
derpppp calling a cop a fuckface herrpppp.......thinks his civil liberty is being infringed when he gets arrested

This was just idiotic.
kateulous 2 years ago
Love watching all the tree hugging new age fuck ups get a dose of reality. They are so stupid. The property doesn't belong to them and the police don't need a SEARCH warrant because they weren't searching for anything. The entire university is private property and they have every right to decide who can and cannot attend and what sort of behaviour is acceptable. Hippie fuckups will never understand.

"Woah...I have to say that seeing the first part of this video changes my opinion about what happens in the second part."
See comments to Part-I. That's the part where the cop says he need to see the lease and then force themselves into to student appeal centre office... etc.
See the "UofOWatch" blog for background articles. Click on the Label "Marc Kelly" for articles about how the U had gone after this math-physics student (arrested in Part-I).

love how seamus managed to lightly put down his coffee cup while the officer was using "force".

Textbook.

To Summarize the Trespass to Property Act;
A police officer, may arrest without warrant any person he or she believes on reasonable and probable grounds to be on the premises in contravention of section 2.
2. (1) Every person who is not acting under a right or authority conferred by law
(i) enters on premises when entry is prohibited under this Act, or
(ii) engages in an activity on premises when the activity is prohibited under this Act; or
is guilty.

hijonotaisetsu 2 years ago
hello... hello...
as per 9999B9999:
(1) The relevant legal concept for the Trespass Act is "LEGAL OCCUPIER" not "owner". Your landlord cannot trespass your visiting friend from your rented apartment AND your friend has right of passage through the building lobby and into the elevator...! duh.
(2) Swearing to a cop is not a bona fide public disturbance. Swearing is not illegal. You can use swearing to communicate your disagreement and frustration and anger to a cop. This was a false arrest.
DenisRancourt 2 years ago
"bona fide public disturbance"? bona fide is latin for good faith. what are you talking about ? bona fide public disturbance.
seamus wolfe was not "communicate his disagreement and frustration" to a cop. he called him FUCKFACE. what did he expect to happen? that's verbal abuse, harassment, etc. he's an idiot for provoking a police officer. when he said "fuck!" the cop just told him to watch his language. when he called him "fuckface" he stepped over the line. this should be abundantly clear

BLUEC0RE 2 years ago
I was a lot more sympathetic to what happened before I watched this video.
A lease does not constitute legal ownership of a property, it only says that they may use that space, but it remains the legal property of the University of Ottawa.
As there is a tresspass warrant issued against Marc Kelly, banning him from uOttawa property, he is not allowed on uOttawa property.

as a policer officer he cannot be "disturbed" therefore he is illegally arresting this guy! lol jeeeeez talk about bad policing.. i hope the they fight this!
monkmaster5 2 years ago
The police were wrong on both counts here.
9999B9999 2 years ago 8
lol this made my year. especially the part where he simulated brute force by taking a dive. i bet wolfe would be an excellent soccer player (as opposed to student leader).

Last time I checked, a lease isn't the same as ownership.
acello 2 years ago 4
as a student of the UofO I am discussed by this. Wow, I already had a pretty bad impression about this city's cops, this just confirms it.
marat85 2 years ago 3
I'm no expert but since he had a trespass to property ban on him, he broke the law as soon as he re-entered the building. He deserved to be arrested and I hope that he is punished to the full extent of the law. Also, even if they are the legal occupiers, they are not the owners and do not have the right to bar the police from the premises. I could be wrong but I don't think so. If I am, please let me know.
