@joeman288 It isn't racist. Look at it from a kid's point of view. I'm white, and when I was a kid, I thought the upside down (white) girl was being made fun of
@yellowxoxo1 I don't think so. If you look at her hands, they're at her side normally. I'm guessing they're holding her pig-tails up somehow to make it look like they're hanging. ;)
Lol!! Jay is the only boy!!! Lol!!! The girl in the yellow shirt with the afro has on a girly t shirt. Check it out. I had to look closely! Lol!! SMH...this was in the 70s but dang she could've had some earrings!!!
"Three of these kids belong together... one of these kids is doing his own thing... come on, can you tell which one?" After I heard that, I chose the upside down girl, not because she was upside down but because she was the only white one. hahah
@sme1ems re: HIS It is the old-fashioned, yet linguistically correct English term for calling a group of mixed gender /when the gender of the subject is not evident. So, in the context of that usage, it is just fine. The song is about more than one person. For yong children, it might even be like a confusing trick question since there are boys in the music video. :) Just a note: I do have a sense of humor. :) It is funny that the song does say his( not her)!

@sme1ems um, in english, masculine is the default personal pronoun. you can't say neutral pronoun "it", because they're people. you can't say "they" because that's plural.
This is one of many post that I have read in regards to the he/she issue! I will have to say that I picked up on the ilogic of the situation, as soon as I heard the words to the song!
@MegaZega93 - There's only one boy. I think you're referring to the little girl with an afro. Little, black girls are often shown with their hair braided in parts with cute clips at the ends, but afros weren't that uncommon back then. =)
The kids look so uncomfortable in their square. It looks fun with the music and the whole Brady Bunch effect, but take all that away and you have 1 nervous child sitting in front of a camera with a bunch of strangers staring at them for minutes in silence. XD

@joeman288 Even sexist with just one boy.
Remember the original Electric Company?
The girls outnumbered the boys.
Wonder if the original ZOOM series was the same?
