You failed big time. Lost in Vietnam and Korea just proving that poor people with strong belief is stronger than people afraid to loose their money. And the Soviet union didn't really loose the Afghan war..think about it. They took the entire country, defeated their army and captured the capital Kabul. Then the so called "defeat" was that all of Afghanistan wasnt worth 10 Hind helicopters. So they left the sand mountains in order to save some money.

And I think Tom Hanks just went by what is written in George Crile's book. As well as other accounts, like that of CIA station chief in Pakistan, Milt Bearden.

So asking Hanks 'why?' doesn't make much sense to me.

All of the arms and other aid were distributed through Pakistan's ISI, so nobody can really say for sure who got what. It is believed that In many cases, the most radical Islamists got the most stuff.

Regardless soviet, Afghans defeated so many other occupiers who invaded to Afghanistan like Alexander, Indian invaders, Chengiz, British, Pakistani-Taliban so without the US help and aid we bravely defeated them shameful.

I would suggest using greater care with when referring to "occupiers." I believe that the U.S. is able and willing to help protect Afghans from invasion by the Pakistani paramilitary force commonly called the Taliban. But I also believe that ISI likes to spread the perception that the US and NATO are only there to "occupy," and that Afghans want us to leave - an outcome which would benefit Punjabis, but result in great harm to Afghans.

I agree with you, if in case furthermore there is no ISI Pakistani intervention in the internal form of Afghanistan so hopefully the country can have a good relationship with US and NATO forces to eliminate extremists within short term that they illegally enter from Pakistan's territory for just destruction. Afghans since Pakistan got its independence from India have been facing such malicious problems they are creating for harming Afghans that we are really fed up with this terrorist action.

Soviet defeated particularly and died mostly in Northern dangerous regions by our Chief Military Commander (Ahmad Shah Massoud) in his 10 years strict resistance against the world's super power and it was his personal ability wiped out Russians shamefully. Yeah, you're saying right US helped Massoud but just for eliminating soviet from Afghanistan, Gulbuddin Hekmatyar later became Massoud's loser rival. And our leader didnt promise America to submit Afghanistan under U.S.A after soviet defeated.
