This was NOT an initiation. It was a presentation of Yawo 2 her community. There was nothing secret about this video, it was a beautiful way 2 present the Yawo 2 her loved ones.
OK.... These people are a TOTAL JOKE !!!! Priest of Yemonja here.... You don't film ceremony.... Plus when does an IFA PRIEST give an ORISHA ???They claim thier African and It was done in the LUKUMI TRADITION.... Also, he knew no songs of Obatala... " Ashe Obatala ,Ashe Obatala, Ashe Obatala.... People like this give African Diasporic Traditions a Bad name..... Olodumare only knows what's in that Tureen ...
secret rituals are not to be shared with any one. They belong only to the orishas and to those who have the santo made. I am disappointed. Yes. this was not a coronation. Yet, it should not be on film.
I invite you to keep spanning the internet and look at all of the videos comming out of Nigeria and Cuba. I also invite you to pose those same comments to those cadre of Awos.
I am a Lukumi priest of Oshun. I saw nothing wrong with this video. I thought it was beautiful. There was nothing secret about it. The iyawo was presented Obatala and beads in a beautiful way. Everyone was happy.
To Lukumi practitioners remember the way we do it in Lukumi is unique and it is not fair to tell others they are wrong. Just as there are variations in Brazil and Trinidad as well.
Instead of arguing over our diferences let's find common ground for the greater good.
Aboru, Aboye. I want to thank you for seeing what so few people want to see. I have a great respect for the traidions as they are practiced around the world. I do not make it a practice to comment on others and what they do. I am more concerned with what I am set to do and how that was tranfered to me. The common ground is simple that we worship the Irunmole. I do what I do with pride and honor. I will continue unitl I die. Aboru, Aboye.
Well i dont know but what about the osha secret coronaciones are not to be recorded and postet like this, i dont judge but thas wasen how i had mine or any that ive seen i respect but... if i dont have nice nothing nice to say i dont say nothin... maferefun elegua, achede baba olofi 4 you
Maferefun Obatala, who is my father in Ocha... Bendicion to all Santeros younger and older in this beautiful religion......
Now that I've got that out of the way, may I ask.....
Why is this on film let alone the internet !? These are secret rituals to which we as practitioners are not even allowed to be apart of until we recieve certain rituals and introduction the "santo room"....And I'm sorry to seem critical but... that does not look like an actual crowning... so can someone please explain?
What took place here is not something that takes place in the igbodu (santo room as you call it). What is shown on this video is not a secret ritual. What is being filmed is not the crowning. Just like any Orisha that is given, it must be presented first and that's all her elder was doing.
thanx for sharing this video now i noe wut ima go through because im to guna make santo soy hijo de obatala...n goin to cuba in a few weeks...thanx u for sharing
Thank you for sharing such a well rounded and well grounded assessment of this video. I thank you for sharing your experience and the realization that we can give homeage to the Orisha in many different ways and they accept our offerings, praise and devotion. Modupe O.

as a priest of Obatala for many years, I know that what bkarade says is true. This is not part of the asiento, but it is a beautiful way to present Iyawo to her community. We are descendants of the Yoryba Oricha religion, but that religion has grown and changed and continues to do so ... let us be thankful for that continued growth for it shows that the Oricha continue to guide our path to celebrating them around the world which Baba Obatala made & rules in every corner. Modupe BKarade.
I couldn't agree more. Those who disagree are more than likely people who have not gone through the ceremony of Kariocha.
Those who don't believe the religion has evolved and changed throughout the diaspora are mailinformed and require some historical research on the evolution of Orisha worship.
Baba has been an outstanding Ifa priest in his community spreading Ifa to those in need.Whether they are rich or poor.He and his Oluo are widely respected for their work in Ifa localy and internationally. They both have produced books on Ifa and Orisa tradition which are widely sold.So be carefull of what negative comments you post.Have respect for your elders.Uplift and dont put down.Practice Iwa pele.Give insight not insaults. Then maybe you'll gain as much respect as they did in life.Alafia !!!
Theres no honor in insulting Awos/elders of the tradition. Criticism w/o respect does not lead to progress and is rooted in baseless opinion. Theres an assualt on African-American orisa religiosity and it must CEASE NOW. We too will worship and give praise. What you see above is an African American celebration of the birth of an Obatala priest. Permission to praise or validation in how it is done is neither requested nor required for viewers to appreciate the achievement of the newly crowned Iya
As a long standing member of this Ile and the proud God-daughter of Baba Karade let me say that my experience has been enlightening and elevating as well as healing and having attended this celebration I can honestly say that blessings rained upon the heads of all who were present!!!!!!!!
this guy in the video don't know what the fuck he's doing, on top of that...who the hell told him that you ring the bell of oshun to put elekes?...this is why the yourba religion is given a bad name, Who the hell is this ASSS HOLE fucken lying to these por people, i can tell of the back that these people are not from Africa or the Caribean (Puertorico or Cuba) where the Religion is hard Core!! this is Mad Bullshit!!
I only say that this comment is sad in that the person is more concerned about a bell and missed what is really going on. Furthermore, my lineage is posted, my elder was present and I compete with no one or their opinion. I post this information for the millions of African decsendants to know that it is beautiful to be yourself on any level. I am not Puerto Rican or Cuban, much love though. I stand where I stand and I ain't goin' no where! When you come, bring your iwa with you.
Hey Mr.PR227! Obviously your speaking out you ass.You have little to no respect for your elders. For someone who has much to say you sound like you have no wisdom at all.For all we know your Ile could be bullshit. We're all under one umbrella.Which is Yoruba.Whether it be Condomble,Santeria,Lukumi,or Vodun. All are very effective and are practiced differently.Baba and his Oluo are well respected in thier community and internationally.TALK WHAT YOU KNOW AND IF YOU DONT KNOW YOU BETTER ASK SOMEBODY!
Are you connected with a Nigerian Ile with bonafide Babalorisa y Iyalorishas? I hate when people's sincere efforts to connect with traditon in the Diaspora are abused and taken advantage of!
My God Stan?! There's a place called Hail? Well, latinoinfred (WTF?), since you think there is a "Hail" where the "bad" people go (I love the paradox of Christianity- God loves you, but if you don't behave, you're going straight to "Hail"!), surely you won't be alone when you go there- all of the "spiritual" persons such as yourself who like to condemn others for not believing what you believe will be there waiting for you.
