OMFG, I shot coffee out of my nose when you spilled the paint out of the cup.... Way to go and kudos to you for not editing that out and instead making a joke of it with the "oops" comment...
do you ratio your thinner + paint like 80:20, 70:30 or something? or do i had to put more paint than thinner? i noticed that you didnt put thinner when painting at the white base so i guess its ok not to put some right? i had a Wing zero MG so this might be alot of helpful to me when i started on painting it since most of the parts of it are white. i hoping that you can help me somehow. in any case thanks in advance.
@sagimalide Hello, I always thin my paint to the consistency of milk, I may have pre-thinned the white, can't recall. Always glad to help, the best way is to contact me through escale on the forums. I log on there everyday
@dryzoneau this might be a stupid question, but i am a beginner after all so.. when you do the post-shading do you go over all the same spots (sides, panel lines etc)you went over with the black pre-shading?
@Vegeta101691 No. You spray on a lighter colour of the previous coat into the middle of the gundam part. Avoid spraying your post shading coat onto the sides and panel lines, otherwise, you'll just cover up the preshade.
Yes. The white primers work well for gundam and most Japanese based model kit with the exception of the armored core models. The grey ones work on American garage kits. The only time I used the grey primer are the dark tonned Gundams such as this one and the Master Gundam.
@Xephon0930 Hello Xephon, check out my youtube on preparing parts for paint, it's in the Ferrari F40 series. It will answers that question as well as give you some more information on preparing parts for painting.
Hi Lonewold... from memory I think i used either black or dark grey for the preshading on white. The 0.5 nozzle won't give you extra fine lines, but you may gind you'll be happy with it.
sorry for the 2nd post but I also just got an airbrush kit as a gift so im looking forward to painting some gundams but The brush included was the Hp-BCS the larger nozzle one (0.5) , is this a good brush or should I get a smaller nozzle one, in your opinion?
I used an Iwata hp-cp in this video, that's got a .3mm tip. I do sand before paitning, you can find my technique for that in my Tamiya Ferrari F40 "Pt 1: Body Preparation and Painting" video.
So its dark color (black of gray) for the edges, then base color in the center... but don't really understand what you did, or where you applied the post shading color, please explain, thanks. Great video by the way...
The post shading is a lighter tint of the base colour, just highlight the centre... it's optional but i prefer to do it on gundams as it increases the contrast
i don't really understand what you did with the white pieces. you painted them white and then the can spray? did you pre shade them with black like the purple pieces? sorry. a little new to painting my gundam models. i really want to get it right
Hi const, I preshaded the white pieces with black. Normally i would preshade white pieces with a gray colour. However, as I wanted to go for a pearl finish (that's what the can is, a pearl spray) previous experience with the product suggested I needed a darker shade as the effects can get lost under the pearl coat. Hope this helps
Great job! If anyone asks about painting Gundam, I'll point them to your videos! especially this one.
I have pearl powders for airbrushing, but I love shortcuts... can you tell me the brand for the can of spray-on pearl you used here? It's not visible on the video. Is it using a completely clear carrier, or milky off white?
Thanks 2Old, this is straight from the marketing people at FolkArt the manufacturers of Peal Glaze. LOL
"Pearl Glaze is a translucent pearlized finish with an iridescent luster and soft, stainy, non-yellowing sheen" I prefer it to Tamiya Pearl White as it gives a truer pearl like finish. I normally clear over it with a gloss coat like Gunze Mr Super UV Gloss clear. It appears to be a clear carrier film and dries almost instantly.
shading piece by piece isnt recommended.. they wont all come together nicely..

what PSI are you using? also is it important to only use black on the edges? COuld you just paint the whole piece black? then go in with the blue?

Oh man, so basically this is automotive painting on a smaller scale. Sweet, I'd use my Anest-Iwata spray gun if it didn't already have years on it.

Where should I buy and what brand of primer should I get for the best results?

so is there a way to prevent paint from peeling/chiping when applying dry decals? (use both dry and wet ^^;)
and is there a way to keep dry decals from being scratched off? I usually use flat colors but starting to think about gloss

Err, which product is considered primer?
I recently purchased some Mr. base white 1000..
That work as primer?

Again, stupid question, you're not supposed to mix enamel and acrillics right?
Xephon0930 2 years ago
@Xephon0930
That's correct :-)
dryzoneau 2 years ago
What kind of paint are you using? Is it an enamel or acryllic?
Xephon0930 2 years ago
@Xephon0930 Hi Acrylics in this video,
In my new series i'm using 2 pack automotive paints
dryzoneau 2 years ago
So What about the primer, which kind do you use and how is it different from an enamel-based primer?
Xephon0930 2 years ago
So many coats of paint have you used throughout painting this kit?
Xephon0930 2 years ago
@Xephon0930
1. Primer
2. Preshading
3. Base Coat
4. Post Shading
I guess 4 LOL

-well i use laquer and also enamel to paint my gundams but also sometimes tamiya acrylics
one question is for tamiya i use iso alchohol 71% to thin it but does it give the same results as the tamiya acrylic thinners ?

u dont use paint booth , where do u paint?
seannopak25 2 years ago
Actually, I do use a spray booth, it's an artograph 1530. I didn't have it in this video. So i used a mask with plenty of ventilation.

how is it? i have tamiya one and that thing blows goat , the motor fan is weak imo , im thinking about getting the autograph too
