A: It depends on where the delay is positioned in the signal chain. If the delay is placed before the Headbone, there is no problem. If the delay device is placed after the Headbone, or in an amplifier’s effects loop, you can have a problem because the echo may continue to generate a signal and send it through the “stand-by” amp with no speaker load connected. It is generally not good to run an amp this way as the output transformer can heat up and ultimately short out.
There's some difficulties when dealing with tube head switching on 1 cab. You can't use delays and reverbs in the FX loop due to the spill over that would happen if you did. When you'd switch amps, the signal would linger in the 'bypassed' amp, but because it isn't really bypassed and still is on, it would receive signal. Due to the load of the amps, you could seriously damage your amp that way. And well, these days I'm running an Axe-Fx ULTRA.
@DemoColorScheme ah wow, really! i didnt think about that... isnt that covered by the device? if it really isnt, its kinda the biggest amp switching fail, because...everyone uses delays and stuff like that!
i have the same fender twin reverb amp. and whenever i play anything clean my friend always think the tone is awesome. ill post a vid soon on the matter
Man, both amps sound absolutely BEAUTIFUL and have beautiful clean tones. I want one of those mesa/boogies now! I own a Vox AC30CC2X reissue and a '73 Silverface TR...And my TR doesn't sound that good.
What speakers/tubes do you have in the twin and did the blackfacing give a huge tone difference? Thanks
The Twin Reverb does sound amazing, still. Have had it for years now and it's a true classic! The black-facing that was don't improved the sound like I couldn't imagine. I remembered plugging into it for the first time after that and just being stunned!
Regarding the speakers, they're stock, have been for years. I'm not sure which ones they are since I never swapped them out and have always loved them, so never bothered to research that, actually.
Nope, sold it a year ago. I couldn't use time-based effects in the loops because it's supposedly really dangerous with the amps loads. So, got rid of it.
@DemoColorScheme I was wondering if you had any details on what makes the effects in the loops dangerous with amp loads when using the headbone vt. I was considering getting one and I just wanted to be sure of what I was getting in to.
@DemoColorScheme yeah I looked it up and I guess that is definitely a problem ... I did read that you can get their loop pedal and you can set it up so that when you switch the loop it also switches the amp ... that is one way of doing it but then again it defeats the purpose of having the pedals after the guitar goes into the amp. I am currently looking into the mesa high gain amp switcher but I think it is an ab/y switcher so I can't get away with only one cab.
I just picked up a Mesa 50 cal+ head and I love it. I sold my Fender Deluxe reverb reissue right after I bought the Mesa because the 50 cal has a BETTER clean tone! Not to mention the amp also has a KILLER high gain channel. Best $450 bucks I've ever spent
The .50 Cal has a thing of its own, absolutely. I loved the .50's clean channel as well due to its mud-hump but still, it's a preference thing. I, personally, love the bright and mid-scooped sound of the Twin.
About the high gain channel of the .50 Cal + .. nah; that was one of the things that were lacking for me (plus the HORRIBLE FX loop). I had to EQ the bitch a LOT and turn it up before I got what I wanted, remotely. Though a given is that the OD tones could be crushing after that.
Thanks! And yeah, those are stock pickups. Sounds pretty full for singlecoils, huh?
Ha, I know! What I'm running at the moment for clean sounds is what I'm really satisfied with, even with a smaller setup. I can still get this pretty big clean sound!
Thanks! Just some random noodling to show that the Mesa has some very good clean sounds as well! Very Fender like, bit with a little less high end and more mids.
found this in tha manual:

@blueheadphoneguy
Exactly. That's what I was saying. :) In front of it: fine (of course), in the FX loop: no go.

Have you picked up any new amp switcher pedal since you got rid of the tonebone VT? anything good out there?

@backwardsnamestaken
I haven't. I've stepped away from amp switching.

It's not a fail ... ;) It's simple physics and it's the nature of head switchers.

If you're interested in hearing that, check the video of the .50 Cal + that I put up to demonstrate its gain channel.

That Mesa sounds way awesome. I personally prefer it over the Fender.

True, the .50 Caliber + had some really nice tones! I don't have it anymore, sadly.
DemoColorScheme 2 years ago
So where are the clean sounds? P.S. Aztec gold is a nice choice.
oaeoeao 2 years ago
Often, with clean sounds, a sound that isn't distorted or breaks up is called a 'clean sound'.
I can imagine some people won't think of this as clean since there are additional time-based effects used on top of that clean sound.

Wat gebruik je op deze vid van delay/rev etc?
Ik hoor de dmm en rv5?
Great sounds as always ;)

Jup, alleen de DMM en de RV-5. Compressie en de langzame chorus voegen ook veel toe aan het geluid!

Soooo cool, love your atmo sounds.
The only problem when I watch your videos is that i want a Fender Jazzmaster! ;-)) and Dmm.
Are the mics stock on your CiJ?
