  • took on easy.. THEN WOW.. yrdened him 2 times.. and used only strong attacks when he was trapped.. cuz he had shield then... then after the second yrden.. i smacked the shit out of him... killed him with full health! LOL

  • He's practically impossible on dark mode, constantly casts a shield, blocks while looking the other way, takes hardly any damage.

  • what i wanna know is how you have about 7 minutes left on them potions takes me about 5 minutes to play the aracheas then a while to get through the conversations.

  • @axom20

I skipped the conversations since I saw them so many times. And I used the potions right at the spot where you climb up to get to the area.

  • Just set snare traps everywhere and run around until he hits a bunch of snare traps and dies. The traps damage him even if he has Quen.

I tried to throw daggers at him, tried the strategy in this video, and a whole bunch of strategies so many times. Once I just decided to set traps and run around though, he went down so friggin easily! If only I did it first... >_<

  • Easiest way to beat him is to lower difficulty to easy then just spam light attack he can't block it over in about 35 seconds

  • Fuck this fight. Fuck this fight so much.

  • Seems that there's always some sort of tactics you have to figure out for boss fights, otherwise you'll get killed, regardless of equipment.

This one seems to be rather simple, as explained above.. if he Quens run around til the spell runs out. When he's not in godmode, Aard and strike two or three times then run like a little bitch. Repeat.

Catch some places of power before the fight and use the proper potions..

  • The boss battles in this game are difficult.

  • @nickklein09 every battle in this game is difficult..

  • Well i am playing on Normal as well, Geralt is lv 11 by me and i barely hit 2-3% of his HP when i manage to hit him at all. I finished every sidequest in town and all the monsters are gone so badly im afraid PETA will get on my back...

Is my lv maybe too low? What lv were u when u fought him?

  • @AninhaNinah

I honestly have no idea what level I was when I fought him I did however save right before I climbed up the cliff and did all the cutscene crap. After losing a bit I went back, reloaded that save and used some potions and rechecked my weapon.

Also did you use any of the tips I provided in the info box or what others have said in the comments?

  • @AninhaNinah

was 11, i reloaded an old saved game and i try to craft everything before i go there but it still will be a pain in the ass. :/

  • I used shield and stun spell tactic on him. He pretty much cannot damage you as long as you hit and run always with shield and stun him so he cannot get his shield constantly...takes a while but took him down without taking any damage.

  • i love how nobody has mentioned that he says "its your own fault for playing soulja boy" 11 seconds in

  • Eh, if you ask me, there is absolutely nothing fun about spamming daggers or bombs on someone. I like a challenge myself, and as hard as he can be, I thoroughly enjoyed the fight with Letho. It was just a fun one on one duel, equalled in abilities and skills, and it was of a pretty epic nature. Throwing daggers at him for 60 seconds certainly takes away any feel of greatness in a fight like that.

  • I'll list out my strategy

2 fast attacks→1 strong attack→Ard→2 fast attacks→1 strong attack→Ard→repeat this until your vigor is gone and evade side ways. Wait until your Vigor recovers and do the same thing. do this attack pattern quickly and be aggressive when you are doing this. He can't block this combo. Since he blocks your first slash occasionally, I suggest you to hit him with Ard first in point blank range if you want to fight safely.

  • I thought Witcher 2 combat is easy to do like the first one so I chose hard, damn, It's real hard, I can't always do the sword combo 4 5 times like before plus you don't have group attack right away and have to learn, but when I have time to play it now, it's not as hard as boss fight in Dragon Age 2, I havent passed him yet but I managed to get his health to very low, Kayran is hard, at least we can hit Letho with just dodge and normal Sword attack, Kayran have to use sign first, hehehe

  • I expected the boss fight when you escort Iorveth and it took me less than an hour to beat this guy. Playing on normal, after all the cut scenes before the Letho fight, I forgot to at least drink Swallow. So I spammed this guy with Aard and hit him with two strong swings then move away. I cast Quen afterwards.

  • This guy is hard if you don't figure out how to kill him, what worked for me is use quen when you don't have it and if he has quen on wait for it to wear off cause I couldn't seem to damage it off of him, when his quen is off just wait for him to attack roll out of the way and attack him and as soon as he blocks roll away and repeat, I find blocking in this game pretty much worthless unless im using it wrong somehow

  • This title is misleading. You DID NOT beat him! His health bar was still 2/3 full! I came and watched this just to see if there was a way I could beat him into some kind of submission because when I fought him on normal I had almost no health gone at all (just one hit from a bomb) and he was far lower in health than me. The journal entry STILL says Letho humilated me even though I got the same cut scene with the clash of Aards

  • @ShayLee0501

There is nothing misleading about this, it's apart of the game and I suggest you play it to see what else happens.... at this rate you will always be humilated :o

  • @Time4rpgs What are are you talking about? I have played the game on both paths. What do you mean at this rate I'll always be humiliated? I kicked Letho's arse, the cutscene and journal/story seem to be based on a presumption the character can't get close winning because Letho is too good at that point, but that wasn't the case with me so I found it silly. They should have turbo powered Letho's AI so that I couldn't possibly be winning when the scene cuts in.

  • Yrden also works, of course, but it's tricky to get him with it when he's not already got quen up, since he loves to activate quen whenever you get some distance from him (such as when you're preparing a yrden).

  • Letho is very cheap if you don't fight him exactly how CDProjeckt wants you to.

He can spam aard and igni for lots of damage and they're unblockable, and unless you're spam rolling they're too fast to evade. And he also spams quen, and it takes forever to go down. So what can you do?

You attack him constantly up close. Just hack away and spam aard yourself (take a tawny owl or lapwing before the fight). Attacking is the only way to keep him from cheating with his signs.

  • @CognizantCheddar I didn't take any potions. I hate that you can't drink them during the fight that and if you read your journal, you should use one to counter another and I can never remember which. It SHOULD say on the in game menu (without journal) which potion counters the side effects so you don't have to read up EVERY time until you remember perfectly. I disdain potions. I find almost every monster except bosses (real bosses like Kayran, not Aracnos) are easy to kill if you spam rapid hits

  • @ShayLee0501

If you simply know what the potions do in the first place, you should know which potions counter which. There are no specific countering effects unique to a given potion-pairing.

Anyway, I sympathize with you regarding some fights that give you no chance at all to drink potions (e.g. Draug fight in Act 2)... but in this fight with Letho, you really don't have an excuse. You knew you were going to confront Letho before you got there, basic gamer-sense should have tingled.

  • @ShayLee0501

Btw, on Normal difficulty the game rapidly gets too easy after Act 1, as easy as the prologue was hard (ironically). I would advise all players to change the dificulty to Hard starting in Act 2... and when you do, you won't be disdaining potions anymore. Swallows especially.

  • @CognizantCheddar I agree I used potions a lot more after the fight with Letho, especially if I had a strong sense a fight would ensure, or I was in an area where I knew I'd soon find a 'boss'. I also used oils if I realised that creatures near me were a certain kind predominantly. However, it wouldn't matter if I played on insane. By Act 3 you have God mode by default if you have put a lot of points into Quen. I used the sword path to get group finishers & Quen is at the start of magic path.

  • @CognizantCheddar I noticed he does cheat with his signs. He seems to be able to use Aard while his Quen is up sometimes during the final battle too.

  • The easiest way to defeat him is by using Yrden sign, then when he is freeze roll behind him and heavy attack him (Right Click), this deals massive damage to him

  • i cant drop any less than when gerald tells him he is nothing more than a thug.... how the fuck can gerald be a greater witcher than him when he hits 100 times harder???

  • Comment removed

  • I can barely manage to damage this guy at all. I'm using the jagged blade (19-25, 23% bleed, 10% poison) with 2 runes in it and the kayran armour, all items upgraded as much as I can from Flotsam. He just keeps quen on all the time and seems to parry me even from behind while he's stunned. Occasionally I can get a series of hits in and take him to around 75% life but then he gets 2 or 3 back into me and kills me, even when I parry and dodge all over the place. Facerolled though until this guy.

  • @ghelyar before anyone says it, I'm aware that I just suck. The difficulty curve in this game is definitely a bit weird though.

  • @ghelyar

I put some decent tips in my info box below the video. you should check out what I did and maybe watch the video all the way thru? This boss isn't that bad on normal mode. Wait till you get to the dragon :)

  • @Time4rpgs thanks, I eventually got it after a few hours by using the Axii + 2x heavy attack method. The key was hitting 5 instead of Q, which seemed to work infinitely better e.g. I could just spam 5 at the start of the fight to hit him before he got his first Quen up (Q wasn't fast enough), instead of him spending the whole fight constantly refreshing it with no downtime. I am now somewhere towards the end of chapter 2 and so far this is still the most difficult part of the game by far.

  • @ghelyar oops, that should say Aard, not Axii. I wish they were just called push, stun, fire, shield and mind control.

  • @ghelyar LOL ya just the other day I was thinking Gerald was like a Jedi

  • @ghelyar LOL I agree. It's been so long since the first Witcher that I'd forgotten completely. All I remember is being far more impressed by the Witcher 1 (for the technology of it's era) than by this one. I was fairly disappointed. I did like the novelty of the gore (like if you let the peasants club a certain noble to death or when Roche desexes a certain mage), over the top swearing, the introduction of 'plough' as a swear word & full female nudity (where's Geralt's dick?) but the game... meh

  • @Time4rpgs The dragon is easy. She telegraphs her moves and repeats them, so you should know exactly when she's going to attack and when she's open. When she uses her tail, you just spam roll around the outside of the circle and she'll almost always miss (esp if you put a point into double the distance of your rule). For me the Draugh would have been the hardest, except by then I just activated Quen and let him kill himself hitting me (as hits backfire)

  • @ghelyar I used yrden sign on him and once he was stuck I just smacked him over and over and then hit him again with yrden. This worked really well. The other method about using Aard and hitting and then dodging did not work for me at all. The use of bombs did nothing.

  • I drop dificulty to easy and beat him spaming the left mouse.

  • Fuck man, i tried like 6-7 times. Then i said. "Well fuck this! and fuck tactics". I had 30 grapeshots, so I just ended up spamming them at him until i won. I was like LOL afterwards.

  • @brutsi

Hey at least you won right? :)

  • @brutsi i tried 100 times, and i cant kill him...

  • Can someone please tell me were u find those swords he got in this vid. I have been looking for them a long tim but i just cant find them. I remember that someone told me to collect my gear but not were ? please help me :)

  • @ErghHippie

The silver sword which you shouldnt be using for this fight... I made I believe from the wraith quest its a pattern you get for completing the quest a certain way...

The steel sword like I said before, I either got it from a fallen enemy on the Malena quest or I made it I cant remember. There are steel swords in houses and around the whole first area if you look. Good luck :)

  • @ErghHippie

I just went back and reloaded my save the Steel Sword is called the Sword of CainGorn 14-18 dmg with one Ysgith rune for 8% bleed dmg

The Caingorn sword diagram can be bought from one of the Flotsam vendors

  • FOr some reason i do minimal dmg, by the time you did half i do 1/50

  • Easiest boss in the game.

  • @demonicspire1

Shhh don't say that too loud, people are listening. :)

  • @Time4rpgs just wait till they get to the dragon.

  • @Time4rpgs How were you able to beat him with the very first sword you get in the game??? ive heard that due to lots of cinematics, your actually meant to have REALLY old equipment even when you get far in the game.

  • @ValenM1997

It wasnt the very first sword, I cant honestly remember which, but it was either a sword I picked up from the Malena quest...

    Or somewhere else.

Basically you can pick up steel swords from fallen enemies or you can make one once you have the pattern :)

  • @Time4rpgs i also saw you fight the kayran with the first armor set (i know you can beat it without getting hit, but you couldnt know that your first time through) and every new sword i picked up look different from my default, never saw one with the same leather grip

  • @ValenM1997 Kayran is ridiculously easy if you just listen to what Sile tells you to do.

  • @ShayLee0501

Meh, she only says "Trap it with Yrden!" and "He's angry, watch out!". The Kayran boss fight design is frustratingly brilliant because that son of a bitch has no attack pattern. On one run he threw boulders at me, at another run he'd sweep half of the battlefield with one tentacle.

  • @ValenM1997

I just went back and reloaded my save the Steel Sword is called the Sword of CainGorn 14-18 dmg with one Ysgith rune for 8% bleed dmg

The silver sword I used for the kayran fight is the robust witchers silver sword 12-18 dmg although I think I couldve made a better version lol

  • @Time4rpgs hm... its been a while sense ANY company made a game with exploration, i had no idea the witcher 2 had secret stuff (except for the armour behind loredo's house i found)

  • @Time4rpgs Is this sword special for some reason? There are a lot better ones.

  • @Time4rpgs Shouldn't he be right though? I mean can Letho really kill you or does it always just cut to the cutscene anyway?

  • Also when he does his shield sign(quen) you can do the mindcontrolling sign(axi?) to buy some time for his shield to go down. Keep in mind that you have to hold the q key(pc) in order to do that.

  • i just figured out the easiest way to beat this guy. After hours of trying all sorts of tactics, it took me 4 tries and less than 60 seconds to beat him.

Go buy about 10 or 11 Superb Daggers. They do massive damage. Hit him with the Ard right at the start, then spam all your daggers at him. He'll go down like the sack of shit that he is. Then you can carry on with your adventure.

This guy is a pain in the ass, and i feel sorry for all of you who wasted time on him.

  • @ironmike092471 LOL man I laughed so hard at the "He'll go down like the sack of shit that he is". I followed your strat and after returning to finish the fucker off went to throw the daggers and found out I was lacking the talent to do so. So after returning AGAIN with the dagger talents I downed the bastard. Thanks dude I am now carrying on with my adventure.

  • @ironmike092471

This is a good strat too. Thanks for the tips! :)

  • @ironmike092471 Dude thx alot i wasted 3 hours on him =)

  • @ironmike092471 I just trapped him with Yrden and went to town on his with heavy strikes whilst dodging like a motherbitch when he chucked out signs and bombs, worked well enough for me, just throwing it out there o/

  • @ironmike092471 Thank you so much for that after trying that method I got him on the 2nd attempt after atleast 20 fails trying other methods

  • @ironmike092471

This isn't true in 1.3 anymore. Superb daggers don't do that much damage to him now. Just tried it today, in fact. Hit him with 7 daggers and very little of his bar was gone.

  • I killed him threw bombs. 15 pieces in a row threw, he had not even had time to come up to me.

  • MY SWORD DOES MINIMAL DAMAGE

  • which is the sword that u used?

  • lol.. easy mode???

    letho dont use quen?

  • @haans2

This is medium (aka normal). Read my info box for why he didnt cast Quen.

  • @Time4rpgs thx, i know now... cleverly

  • @haans2 LOLOL

  • This isnt first boss.

  • most annoying fight in the history of gaming

  • looks like megaman

  • @shermhead0

Just how we like it :)

  • This fight is easy once u figure it out. All I did was quen, dodge all his attacks until his quen stops. Put up another quen and then yrden. Once he gets trapped just repeatedly use heavy attacks. Do this twice and its done.

  • Comment removed

  • pretty easy ,

you got to avoid his attacks by rolling on the ground, then go for his back and attack him --> aard and again sword fight action

till 30% of his life then a cutscene will end up this fight

    ....

  • Queen and Yrden that's all

  • When do you take the potions? It goes right from the Arachas fight into 13 different cutscenes and then Letho with no opportunity to meditate.

  • @GotNextVideo

Before you climb up the cliff to get to that area...

  • what's that armour? where do you get it?

  • @shv78

    Kayran armor.

  • what settings did you play this on? what the stats on your main sword?

  • @jaimsC

I know it was one of the steel swords I picked up and there is info in the description box.

  • Best strategy is

    wainting Letho's attacks

    dodge it

making an heavy blow in his back

    Restart the cycle.

Do not have a too long distance between him and you, cause he will cast his shield and will throw bomb or offensive spells.

  • I keep wondering what tree should i take...

  • this fight is so fucking annoying i hate rpgs because of these 'premade' handicapped fights where there is a boss with 1000k hp

  • Hm, you made that look easy? D:

  • @SpeedStrike7

Yeah it sucked figuring it out though :)

  • do i gatta play the first one???

  • @Xeophian

Only if you want to? :)

  • @Xeophian If you do play the first one you'll feel just as much like you're jumping into something since it takes place after the books. Don't worry about it.
