Vertical log splitters KILL your back. You're humped up like a dog on a football heaving big blocks about. I also noticed that in the horizontal position you are straddling the axle, requiring you to lean over the machine. Eight hours of this and you'd be off to the chiropractor.

I bought this same style unit from these guys but it was a 20 ton electric.(220 volt) I was apprehensive about it being strong enough so when I came to inspect it, he let me split a log to try it out. That thing split up a 18" chunk of green elm ACROSS the grain. It's unstoppable.

THis unit has a 1.5 HP High Torque Motor that can run on regular 110 VAC House Current. You can have up to 150 feet of extension cord on this unit as well.

It is Maple, but I have split Oak, Hickory, Elm and Maple with this splitter and it will split logs up to 24" in diameter!!
