  • this is a very good song but I think I like the unplugged version the best:)

  • sweet

  • Every video from this fucking show I see this twitchy asshole.

  • What is with this retarded crowd? Why are they just standing there? This song is so fucking awesome.. so much energy...

  • rock and roll.... pure

  • What is man in black cap and orange hoody doing? o_O

  • @ratamahata4 He will always be know to the grunge world as "Twitch McMethy"

  • Ten was so good, this song was a bside.

  • Get out of the way, Eddie is swinging his microphone :)

  • The words of my poem, I mean...it felt like Matt was illiterate, but that would be impossible, wouldn't it?

  • I loved this song when the film "Singles" was released. Starring Matt Dillon, who incidentally picked me up in a bar on the Lower East Side of NYC in about 1985. Or whatever year it was that Andy Warhol died, b/c I first found out about his death in that old tavern & that was around the time I went home with Matt Dillon. He definitely moved me. I was into the poet/musician Jim Carroll at the time & I had written a poem for him & Matt said they were friends yet he couldn't read the words of it...

  • I just love to see Eddie perform , especially in the early days.

  • involuntary pony tail shking is distracting me !

  • Simply amazing! Pearl Jam forever!

  • Wowwwwwwwwwwwww !!

  • My ex said that Grunge was meaningless. I tried to reason with her. She said Lil Wayne had more skill than Pearl Jam. What choice did I have?

  • @leafdude96 You know... if you need any help disposing of the body I have some lye, shovels and hack saws that might help do the trick.

  • @leafdude96 dump her.

  • the boy in orange shirt is really annoying with he's hair !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • i get chills watching this-its so amazing

  • eddie is wearing the same shirt on even flow and alive videos>>>.

  • These people watching this had no clue the band they were watching and what PJ would become. They were coming out of the "big hair/arena rock" coma of the late 1980's and this bitch slapped them into the 90's and gave them a "black" eye I still have for the last 20 years.

  • Little do these people know, this will become one of the greatest live bands ever.

  • @nym5cb This statement would be equally as accurate if you removed the word 'live' from your statement...

  • @TickyTockBerserker I apologize, you are 100% right. They are my favorite band haha.

  • He fell over at 2:51 and its STILL. FUCKING. AWESOME.

    YEAH.

  • eddie sos un monstruoooo!

  • IMO Jeff was one of the biggest energy source on the stage. He never stopped moving. I love watching him twisting and moving around. He's excellent!

  • @vironfletcher Don't forget that he's damn good at the bass guitar too.

  • @JadenPrinceton12 Well, I omitted that because it's out of the question, huh?

  • wow, I would be fuckin JAMMING to this if i were there!!!! Thumbs up if you agree!!

  • how can a song be this fuckin good man cant think of fuck all else that is

  • Weird to think how the quality of this video surpasses what some people post as "HQ" that look like they were recorded with a calculator... 19 years ago. xD

  • What's up with the boy of the 2:30?

  • @rammsteinljg orgasm

  • @rammsteinljg he starting to feel the vibe

  • Thanks for posting. About a yr after this video I saw RHCP with PJ and Smashing Pumpkins... as genuine OPENING ACTS.... Pumpkins were basically booed off with sound problems, and the crowd for PJ - who went on first - were like this crowd here. Amazing to think of now... its "Classic Rock"....

  • This show is interesting. "Ten" was released about 4 days later and "Nevermind" still hadn't come out yet so maybe thats why the crowd isn't so into it. I wanna say Pearl Jam didn't start "selling" records until 1992. Great stuff, thanks!

  • Were they playing for a zombie public?

  • whats with the jackarse shaking his gay ponytail/?? LOL!!!

  • @glrodriguez73 Maybe he's using it like a horse uses it's tail to shoo flies.

The flies probaly thought the audience were a bunch of dead bodies!!

  • @glrodriguez73 there are flies jajaja

  • @glrodriguez73 AHHAHAHAHA LMFAO, Oh man that just made my day, how longs your pony tail now "jackarse" Ahahahahah!!!

  • The crowd is mellow because the ten cd hadn't been released yet, so nobody had any reference or knew what to make of the band. It was very early on and people in seattle were still in mother love bone mode. Trust me, it was very memorable show!

  • @JErikR well the crowd must have been crazy cause Stone and Jeff were from Mother Love Bone, so they had to have known something good were to come out of this band

  • An AM rock station?! Really?!

  • What's up with the crowd??? I'd be all over the place jumpin up and down if I were there. This song is AMAZiNG!! Love the lyrics. Check out PJ on MTV unplugged singing this song it's epic :D

  • Holy shit, I would be shouting and jumping like hell!

That crowd is sleeping or what?

  • @Kon3k There's no real excuse for this crowd. State of Love and Trust is such and awesome and catchy tune. My guess is the crowd was waiting to hear "Alive", "Evenflow", or "Jeremy" and didn't realize the awesomeness that had just witnessed.

  • @jaruel37 pearl jam didnt become extremely popular until 92, so the crowd pretty much has no idea who they are.

  • this is like the first goddamn video with a cell phone in ´91, great perfomrmance, the crowd sucks

  • @FernandoKobryniec VHS camcorder.

  • @IveGotNothinToSay i know just the definition is so bad looks like an old cell ;)

  • Haha at 2:50 he sings: help me from my(self), and then he trips :D

He is always so awesome on stage, you can see that he really puts his soul into it.

  • nirvana > pearl jam

  • @jakaboy Love Nirvana...But no. Really comparing apples to oranges, Nirvana=punk; Pearl Jam=Class Garage Rock. Pearl Jam is just brilliant, 20 years later the spike they get when they take the stage is still enormous (saw them last week). Nirvana had began to fizzle before Kurt's life tragically ended. Oh well, 2 of my favorite 5 bands ever, like arguing over favorite children..:)

  • I live in Seattle I was in middle school when this was going on, we set the music for country ,come to Seattle see some shows ,we were so used to grunge it had been going on for the last 5 years before this show it really wasn't a new thing for us it's that everybody started buying all the music we listened to and then we became "the coolest city in the world", quoting kirk loader of MTV news, so what I'm trying to say is that this is not new musical style for the crowd so they are used to it.

  • this is better then most of the songs off ten!

  • Great vid. classic. the guy in the orange hoody at the 2:15 era with the tick was awsomely distracting.

  • @purplethirty Jesus i thought it was just me that saw that lol, !!! i went through that period, i miss it lol!!! I love these guys! I saw 'em 8-24-09 gonna see em again 05- 07-10 noblesville,IN!!!! CAN"T WAIT !!!!

  • Lyrics to this are brillant! No one writes like ed!

  • ahaha its so hilarious when eddie trips, he in his defense he recovers it pretty well.

  • I can't understand how this song didn't make the original cut for ten..

  • this fucking rules!!!

  • absolut classic, but i prefer 'breath'

  • hell yeah!!! i love them. i've seen them twice late last year but i wish i could've been to thesse shows... only in my dreams

  • Man, if I were in that crowd it would be wild! What's up with all of them?

  • Remember, these people were coming off of cock rock. This was like aleins landing for the first time

  • wtf is wrong with the crowd

  • Less than a week before release of TEN. Pure raw PJ. Priceless recording, along with some false notes here and there, and the all-time crappy crowd. They looked and sounded like some freaky hybrid of punks and hippies. Stone's look just kills me. Thnx 4 the vid.

  • the crowd doesnt even know yet

  • WHY ISNT THE CROWD DOING ANYTHING WTF

  • Did yall know Eddie Vedder can play guitar pretty well!! Saw him play some vs. songs live, very tight.

  • that guys pony tail sticking out of his hat is outrageous

  • Wasn't as bad as the rat-tail's everyone had back then.

  • every video from this show has comments about that guy.. he must have tourettes

  • I want to reach through the screen and stop his head from twitching

  • Nice. I was 17 in 1991.... Margret river in Western Australia was ablaize with pearl jam

  • 1991 - the year I was born :) good year for music, a lot of things were happening then. I really dig the stuff PJ's done and especially what Eddie's been doing recently. Thanks for sharing :)

  • 1991 I was 3 !!!! :( but since I know PJ I began to love them whit all my heart <3

  • Same in 1991 i was 12 i have grown up with this band and have listened to them nearly every day of my life... obsessed....... yes i think i am. Just saw them live a few days back in Sydney man they still play a awesome and long set :)

    \ 0 / / \

  • 1991 I was 13 !!! God I still love this band with all my heart

  • 1991 I was 16 !!!!! hahahaha

  • 1991!!? Jesus, i was 21. What happened in between?

  • D.A.V.E.

  • I guess Seattle crowds do suck!!

  • wow i wasnt even born yet when this show happened.

I wish I was older so I coulda seen all of PJ's shows back in the 90s

Oh well they are better then ever right now :)

  • Edddddddie....Soooooo much talent....GREAT song...one of my favorites.

  • turrets thats what makes this video so neat, moron. excuse me you dont see the symphany of life in front of you. you must be a male who likes to fight over girls at bars when this song comes on.

  • what the fuck is the orange kid doing to his head all the time?

  • This is the best song they wrote in their early days, IMO.

  • how this doesnt have over a million hits i'll never know

  • Stone was looking like Getty Lee back then

  • this crowd deserve death

  • Comment removed

  • I was there for this show. There had free shows called "Pain In The Grass" on Friday nights. We were there to check out Jeff and Stoney's new band.....Pearl Jam. "Their original band name was suppose to be "Mookie Blaylock".....

  • Lucky lucky you! I'm jealous :p

  • Damn, where did they fly this audience in from? What a waste of a good show...

  • from one of the greatest US cities!!!!!! Seattle is awesome. I was there just two years after...Man, I wish I were there then!

  • Microphones with cords. Those were the days. What's up w/ the dude in the black hat and the ponytail shaking it every now and then? Pretty nostalgic footage. Love it.

  • guy with Ponytail looks like there's a fly bothering him every few seconds.. ha ha!

  • great catch bro. thanks for sharing

  • he nearly took out stone with that mic

  • whats up with that guy in pink just standing there?! id be going crazy

  • dave was spot on...more power than krusen...more organized, less push and pull

  • 2:52...lol..I love that Eddie was so clumsy back in those days. Always tripping and falling onstage...Hilarious

  • Yep and never missing a beat. Just a personality thing and a lifestyle when they were playing non-stop all over the place trying to make it.

  • I still enjoy bringing it up every once in awhile & taunting him w/ the fact that he could have gone & witnessed history, but he was too stupid 2 listen. Well, thank GOD I was smart enough 2 get a ticket first thing they went on sale. They exploded about 3 weeks after I bought my ticket, & then they sold the remaining (probably 350) tickets in an instant. I remember being the only 1 around who knew who the hell they were, and then 2 months later the whole world knew. It was quite a trajectory.

  • I don't think I've ever envied somebody more, you lucky fucking bastard.

  • just thought they were some nobody band and didn't even want to go. It was at a venue w/ 385 max. capacity. They purposely scheduled small venues so they could be virtually assured of saying that they officially sold out every venue on their first tour. My friend still kicks himself in the ass for not listening to me, and neglecting to go to the concert. I tried to tell him. I said I know music, and this is not just any band. I said this band will be truly great. Later, he became a huge fan.

  • Fucking stiff ass crowed! this song rocks and their standing there like they're frozen!

  • Eddie has the shirt from the Even Flow Video on here- THAT's how big of a fan I am

  • wooo

  • yeah motherfucker, this rocks, eddie throws some punches and says get off me bitch!

  • pearl jam rocks

and grounge rock its the golry

  • I Love how the kid in the orange hooded sweatshirt and black hat looks like he is either constantly twitching, or trying to shake off a very persistant mosquito buzzing in his ear.

  • @3TNT3: the guy in orange has tourette's maybe?

  • Yeah, I thought of that, and it may very well be so, but I find much more amusing to go with the Mosquito Theory.

  • I had the same thing when i was a kid. Its from the nervous system. Fun though :)

  • u guys, u have to realize this was early pearl jam, bearly anybody was REALLY diggn em yet. so the main reason for the statue-likness was most likely cuz of this

  • The crowd really sucks how can you just stand still while PJ playing

  • Totally agree with you! Look at them! Is this a fuc*ing rock concert or Madame Tussaud's museum?! The people are standing just like statues! I'm amazed how can they even think of doing that with this awesome group of 5 totally cool guys rockin' and slamin' right in front of their nose!

  • josh!!!. fits fu**ing rock concert turn these lights off

  • Oh, yeah! The good old speech at the beginning of Evenflow video! I love it too!

    =D

  • Dude, this was before Ten was released, no one knew who they were. Its quite amazing too.

  • Yeah, I remember when I went into a very hip record store trying to buy Ten, and nobody had even heard of Pearl Jam yet. It turned out their record hadn't been released yet. I found out about them from a free cassette that was given away in order to promote bands/singers. It was called Buzz Cuts. After I heard Alive (the only PJ song on the tape), I knew tight away that this was a band that would be around 20 years later. I tried to convince a friend to buy a ticket to their concert, but he

  • @autocommand i absolutely agree

  • @autocommand

agreed the guy in the pink shirt looks like an auditor

  • @autocommand Nah, man. They're merely in shock of being so close to such an awesome band! :D Seriously though, I agree with you...

  • Demasiado grooosso, Eddie!

  • eddie is sooooooo hot ..or was back in the day and those flannel shirts!!

  • oh, and i think the crowd was just too damned awestruck. *smirks*

  • go ament go!!!!! argh!!! hail hail pearl jam!!!

  • Man i can't believe they all just stood still while PJ was rocking out....

  • they could atleast nod their heads.Standing there like stones.

  • Everyone wants to be Eddie

  • i wonder if anyone in the audience has watched these videos and felt like complete douches and full of regret because of these comments... especially ponytail twitchy guy.

  • abrazzese the drummer... the best the band ever had..

  • Awesome classic PJ rocking people's faces off. Poor twitchy ponytail guy... his brain can't comprehend the awesomeness he is witnessing

  • That is hilarious! After reading that and watching again...I laughed so hard I was crying.

"Poor twitchy ponytail guy" That's awesome, good call!

  • haha

  • I think a bug is in his face....lol

  • good call thats fucking hilarious. im blazed as shit right now and cant even take this rocking awesomeness. im listening to stone descendant too, they fucking rock as hard as pj did right here

  • This reply is awesome.

  • ya i suppose if it is that.. i like to think he just has a wierd headbang

  • hola, hi.. your video is bery good, thank you for that Ican see this. im from chile sorry my inglish is bad,bye bye and live pearl jam...

    chile

  • I cant believe how the audience is just standing there lifeless. If Pearl Jam where right in front of me I'd be going crazy

  • Whatever Happened To These Guys! They're Like Pansy Pseudo's Today! I ROCK! \m/..\m/

  • Who cares if you like the music or not, theyre expressing themselves, and theyre expressing themseleves the same way they did in 1991....through music.

  • That guy in orange with a black baseball cap has a bad Mannerism~i cant call that headbanging*

  • That is a neurological disorder. But the band is just amazing! The audience didn't realize what they had in front of their noses!

  • definitely!

that or they were just sooo blown away that they were dumbstruck & frozen by the awesome music!!! :)

  • don't worry about it

  • hehe :D

  • i swear...this audience is totally pissing me off!

  • is this the first time they played live??

  • Muito bom !!!! A melhor música deles

  • Whats up with Seattle!

When they come to New Zealand the crowd goes crazy. Jumping, dancing, singing along and making a right mess of the situation. You guys all seem bored as f**k.

    It's not an opera!

  • This is Seattle during the birth of grunge... they were probably too depressed to jump around... but baffled at the fact that bands were actually channeling their angst lol.

  • what´s up whit the guy withe orange shirt?!?!?!!??

  • man wish i had been there!! was in Seattle in 1990 and had no idea bout PJ, Nirvana etc.. my loss!!!

  • EV's even more awesome and sexy now than ever before

  • Meaning as an eleven year old I personally wasn't making any differentiations - I'm assuming the crowd here is older than eleven and therefore could tell this wasn't quite what they were used to or expecting to hear.

  • I was eleven in 1991 and I remember hearing the seattle bands on the radio and not really differentiating them from the 80's bands in my head - all I recognized was that they were great songs that I loved to sing along to. . .it's hilarious to watch this and see the people just stand there - they had no idea what to make of this and so they just stood there in bewilderment. Undoubtedly someone in the crowd is wishing they were seeing Def Leppard or GNR or something like that. . .

  • Sounds like "not differentiating seattle bands in 1991" is a contradiction to "they had no idea what to make of this & so they just stood their in bewilderment" don't you think ? In other words on one hand you are saying that the music from the 80s was the same as seattle bands on the radio in 91 (you couldn't differentiate them)and on the other hand u are saying the crowd didn't know what to make of it (didn't recognize this music or know what the heck it was) Or am I missing somethin here ?

  • Why does the guy in the orange sweater in the orange keep shaking his head?

  • Looks like he has a twitch.

  • thats what I was thinking.

  • terrible sound, sorry, but GREAT song!!!
