the singing is amazing, the guitar work (and other instrument work) is amazing! the message? doesn't have to "appeal" to anybody in particular, they wrote it thought it was preety fuking amazing so they put it on their album. The fact that they are 'successful' does not necessarily mean that they are also talented individuals.

They merely make accessible, non-offensive, paint by numbers pop-rock.

They're successful for a reason. They have obvious talent and work extremely hard. And yes they did win an award for best album, another obvious sign of their talent. Maybe their 'paint by numbers pop-rock' doesn't appeal to you, but it clearly appeals to somebody, seeing as they were chosen to support Paul McCartney, one of the most successful rock stars of all time. They don't just throw anybody on stage with him and hope for the best.

Of course something like the Coronas has massive commercial appeal. This is college rock for the Celtic Tiger generation. It speaks to a very large demographic

I listened to half of the new album, and I will admit it is nowhere near as appaljing as this song. Their sounds has matured, but it is still awfully pedestrian stuff.
