  • n64 version could have been much better, they could have used a larger cartridge like the resident evil 2, or turok 2, a cartridge could fit the whole game easier, and better graphics than the ps1, but they used a cartridge with little capability instead of using a higher capacity ... dumb. turok 2, 007 goldeneye they have much better graphics than quake2, the n64 had the potential to have a perfect version of quake2, but the developers have done a bad job.

  • Not a very fair comparison. The PSX version is badly emulated, without CD music, half the framerate and half the speed. Ugh. The N64 is actually a lot choppier than the PSX version.

  • I have emulator and i use controls normaly.Too bad my psOne dosent work anymore :(

  • WTF the PSX clip most be emulated!

  • I prefer the PC version first, and the PSX version 2nd. I don't mind graphics because I have played game with much shittier graphics, so much that I can't see a thing cough, doom on an old laptop, cough. I haven't got used to the PSX controls yet, as I just got the game off ebay recently. My only gripe of the N64 version is that it runs smoothly at first, but the gun firing animation is a bit choppy.

  • Quake 2 is cool, there are secret levels, but i prefer quake 4, the history isn't that long but it's cool

  • This version doesn't have the rock soundtrack. I hate games without music.

  • The PSX version and the PC version rocks! The N64 is like a "mod" of the original game.

I like the PSX version because you can put a mouse as a joystick and play it like the PC version (Without keyboard).

But I always think that the original versions are the better. The PC version rules because you can play it in 1600x1200 with 30 fps and it's VERY VERY VERY different from the PSX resolution of 320x480.

  • I love Quake 2 :) Anyway PC Version rulles :D

  • I have Quake 2 on PSX.

The playstation version is way smoother because of the analog on the dual shock controller makes looking around feel so smooth and responsive.

The N64 controllers analogy stick sucks, gives jerky movements, and makes your thumb dam sore after an hour of play.

    BUT BUT BUT

on the PSX... the PAL version is FAR inferior to the NTSC version. The PAL is slower, and runs with ugly black boarders on the top and bottom of screen. But the NTSC is smooth and fullscreen.

  • The ugly black borders on the top and bottom of the screen are because of 50Hz, yeah you feel the NTSC version running faster because its 10Hz more, NTSC system outputs in 60Hz compared to PAL 50Hz, but dont forget maybe the PAL system is slower a bit but it has a bit higher resolution. So both systems has its pros and cons none of them are perfect. Somebody prefers PAL over NTSC and other NTSC over PAL.

  • @Couchsportler though there is general consensus that pal is best

  • Yer but the n64 did have more vibrant colours the ps1 had better controlls coz over the dual shock it had better models better textures the only good thing bout n64 is the colouring

  • is the psone version really that slow

  • PErhaps he's playing this on an emulator.

  • Yeah it was on a emulator, but it actually plays very fast. At the time my recorder slowed down the game. It actually runs at a great 60 frames per second.

  • PC version is the best, but the ps1 version has a few advantages over it. The N64 version looked realy poor, mainly because it didnt have CD's and didn't have much space.

Oh, and why didn't the ps1 version have any soundtrack?

  • it did, it had the PC version + expansion soundtrack. The Emulator didn't want to play it off my CD for some reason.

  • @munxcorp

The video is a bad example for comparison of different versions of Quake 2 as it is in a bad quality.

since the N64 version is better than the PS1 version ;-)

alone because of the texture filter ^ ^

But if one could be an expansion pack then call their own then the N64 version was graphically far superior to the PS1 version.

Only in music but in the console version does not really exist is the PS1 version is better than the N64.

But there is nothing like the PC version of Quake 2

  • N64 looks good but lacks the shadow and detail the pc and psx version had, psx had pixelated textures and lower frame rate. But you can't go wrong with any version. I own all consoles and will get the n64 version just cuz... lol.

  • I don't think the point is to bash any version... The point is just to show how they looked. PC Quakle II Arena was an amazing game, was the first open gl game, the lightning and explosions were amazing. i remember watching a review on tv and he couldn't even give it a 10 because at the time it was above anything ever made.

  • Wow, the PS1 version runs SOOOOO slow coming from the standpoint of someone who has only played the N64 and PC versions. The Playstation 1 obviously took beauty more seriously than it did framerate, because it takes over a second just to pump the normal shotgun.

  • thats becuz hes runnin it on an emulator

watch "Quake II PSX (Part 1 of 15)"

  • Pc version is the best

  • n64 version could be better considering how long they were converting it. is it true it runs in 24 bit colour if you add the expansion pack by the way?

  • pc owns all but n64 has great gameplay

  • WTF? No way to get the super shotgun on the first level on the PS1 version????? Man, I always get the super shotgun on the first level of the N64 version.

  • The PSX version was closer to the PC then N64 was but they are all good ports for the consoles.

  • PSX version had some of the PC levels, but it lacked the power to make them look good. It didn't even have a sky box haha.

    Or moveable water.

Hell the Saturn version of quake had a sky box XD and moveable liquid :P

  • but plastation lasted 11 years so nintendo can kiss my ass for what i care

  • joder k maloo eres tio XD

  • Either you slowed down the PS1 version which actually moves a a steady 30 frames per second, or you're running it on a shitty emulator.

  • the game actually runs fast as hell, WAY too fast. the recorder slowed it down.

Without the recorder it's like you zooming really fast.

  • Ok. I knew something was up, because it seemed a little too slow. Especially when I looked up other vids of the PS1 version.

  • The PC version is the best of the three. It makes one wonder why id bothered porting so many of their games to consoles. I wonder how well they sold.

  • Wow the Playstation version seems horrible going at that slow pace. Better textures than the N64 though.

  • the PSX version made my eyes bleed. o_o

  • WTF! Are you an idiot sonyfanboy?

  • ISNT IT OVBIOUS!!!

    ok maybe a little

but you have to admit it, playstations r better, except the 3
