It's funny to watch this and yet try and understand how people can claim that SF2 is the best fighting game to date. If that Balrog play hadn't showcased at least a little talent out of those 5 matches I'd say SF2 was nothing more than a cheesy unpolished fighting game that just happened to be the only half decent fighter during the SNES age.

@note4note ST is what a fighting game is at the very core, it's very basic. It's an unforgiving game and everything hurts. I mean, eating a combo basically means that you're off for either a dizzy or 50% damage.

I wouldn't shoot out SSFIV out there if I were you though (although I play the game myself), it's just so newb-friendly that you really must be blind not to see what's wrong with it. Combos are easy to pull off, you get rewarded for getting beaten up and reversals are spammable.

@DayLikeAnother Isn't SF2 the exact same if you want to talk being noob-friendly? Fireball spamming is incredibly hard to punish unless you are really good at the game and understand your spacing. The game barely has combos factor into play at all, depending on your character and to an extent which version though. If you're trying to argue that a noob could stand a better chance against a pro in SSF4 than in SF2, I'd very much have to disagree.

@note4note Actually, no. The input window for specials is much smaller on SF2, making most scrubby fireball/shoryuken spammers unable to effectively use them. And combos play a huge part of this game, did you ever try doing what Daigo just did with Balrog? You need extreme precision, you can mess that up VERY easily.

Again, let me ask you, did you ever play this game? Because to me it seems that you don't know about the strict input window in this game at all, I'm not trying to bash.

@DayLikeAnother I played a while ago, though again I don't know which of the 5 versions I had and how it compares to which version this video displays. When I did play it really wasn't that hard to spam hadokens or tiger shots. Maybe not frame perfect, but noob friendly all the same.

As I stated before, Daigo's Balrog was impressive, though more so from its mixup game then the combo he pulled. Still most competitive play I've seen comes down to shot spamming and single move reversals.

@note4note His argument about spacing is pretty dumb but let me explain. In this game, you've got to hold on to every single bits of life possible because as I've said, everything hurts. Even normals take out quite a chunk of your life, you die fast. There's no comeback mechanics (ultras/x-factor), focus attack, no barrier guard, no airguard, no airdashes, no burst, there's nothing but the barebones of fighting games.

Might just be my opinion but I think the larger options and comeback mechanics in a ton of other fighters make them far more enjoyable, not only to play but to watch as well. Even if we are just talking core fighters, I still think the first Soul Calibre and Tekken 5 pull that off better.

-Tiger Uppercut is one hit, for big damage and a knockdown.

-Standing Short and Standing forward are bufferable at both the first hits and second hit. This can help you in combos and you can use Standing Short cancelled into ground tiger to help pressure.
