I use a 450D, it's an ok camera i guess. Its a perfect starter DSLR for a beginner but the build quality on the newer Canon 18-55 lenses, (which is what you get with the 450d) are no where near as tough or as sharp as the previous lenses Canon made for older models.

Hard to argue with anyone about aesthetics as it's all a matter of personal preference but as someone that targeted both of these great cameras I can't disagree more. I can't say that the d60 is ugly or not worthy of mention but the 450d just blew me away. Now that I have had a chance to take a few pics around NYC I can't be happier with my choice.

Now i have a Nikon D80 and a pair of my fav lenses and actually the D80 is much faster to work with than d40/60 the controls are more suited for sports bahhh its simply much more comfortable oh and it has a build-in motor for AF.

hi!i don't know why people recomend nikon or canon...i can only say that i prefere canon cameras,first of all because of the colour balancement: in nikon cameras it is too much "digital" that is that the pictures you take don't are as much real as possible...colours are more "hot",more reds and yellows than real life...canon sensors respect more what human eye really see !

We take shots together often and I can say both image qualities are great, but the XSi doesn't offer a better picture.

You guys should know that XSi and D60 aren't in the same league.

XSi: 12MP, 9 AF points, bigger VF, battery grip (optional), 3.5fps, mirror lock-up, 3" LCD, Live View, DOF preview, bracketing, etc.

D60: 10MP, 3 AF points, no battery grip, 3fps, no mirror lock-up, 2.5" LCD, no Live View, no DOF preview, no bracketing, etc.

I'm really annoyed with this review - it's not a comparison between the 450D and N60 at all! (he picks both up and compares the weight at one point - but that's all). Please don't title your video as a "comparison" if it's not. Guys, I've also just looked at cameralabs reviews - they are great. I would recommend them.

worst review and advice EVER. oh a side note, i was originally very intersted in the 450D-rebel xsi-kiss 200x or whatever the heck, but i after much research i am folding for the Nikon D90 instead. Yes i know this is slightly more pro than the 450D, but i even think its better than 40D. Just need to make one more stop at my local Jessops and see how they feel. The Nikon has kept its 80's look also dont you think, it looks retro, i love that.

If you will compare the Image Quality, there's is not much difference but in buying camera, you should compare as well the handling, ergonomics, ease of use. I have compared the two in store and the D60 pulled away. You will not use live view, it is not crucial although sometimes helpful. Professional Photographer doesn't use live view so much. Besides, Canon have so much problems with some of their units like the 5DM2 and 1 series like dead pixel, black dot issues etc....

It's true that Canon is suffering problems in quality control & Canon has issued a firmware fix for the 5d Mark II, Karel Donk (a famous disgruntled Canon user) has correctly stated that Canon is suffering from managerial problems that Nikon had in the past. The 500d is just a knee jerk reaction to Nikon's d90, but the current buzz around Canon is the 5d Mark II. Despite Canon's problems they are still a contender & really need to improve on their auto focusing system & other issues.

Canon 400D and Nikon D60 (already had an eye sensor)

Wat I don't like about the 450D is that it has LESS BUTTONS to the side, due to the big screen.

You'll probably sort your photos on a computer, so larger than 2.5" or 3" isn't so essential.

It's about what the camera can do, how reliable and how good quality pictures it can take. (and how long the battery lasts, and if it's user-friendly enough)

Well, the review is kinda biased. I recommend you check cameralabs' review of the two product here in youtube. They've got one of the most comprehensive and one of the most unbiased reviews.

Correct me if I am wrong but aren't you supposed to primarily use the viewfinder, and only use the live view if you absolutely need to? Plus why would one upgrade from an xti? That's not good advice. Although if you don't have a Dslr than it is a good choice to get into photography but it is not that much better than the xti.

The XSi looks nice. It's cool that Canon has made a dSLR with many of the "higher end" features at such an affordable price.

However, I shoot Nikon, because I prefer the ergonomics. I just could never get used to the layout of Canon's buttons and what not, and that's a very important aspect of any camera, to me.

Alright, there is no way for someone to tell you what better is. I'm a salesman at Circuit City and a photographer my whole life, along with my father, another photographer. The words "Better, best" is an opinion, so the only way that you can decide which is better is by actually playing around with the camera. I personally like the Nikon's but the Canon's do a job well done too. The only thing I wouldn't recommend is the sony alphas, or Olympus cams because they have small image sensors..

Don't need a camera. I have shutter release built into my right eyelid, so every time I wink, a photo is stored in my brain and printed out of my ass seconds later. SD cards fit right into my belly button for easy data transfer.

The canon has better picture quality at higher ISO settings compared to the Olympus, and the CMOS canon sensor creates less noise than the 4/3 system Olympus uses.

But i prefer the Olympus 520. The sensor IS makes it cheaper than having lens built IS so every lens Olympus has will be image stabilized.

Umm... the D60 and XSi (450D) are definitely NOT direct competitors. Why don't you do a more direct comparison like comparing the XTi to the D60. The XSi (450D) is a good $200 more expensive than the D60. 12.2MP is a bit overkill actually unless you plan on printing some HUGE pictures. Also, is it really that big of a deal to have a .3" bigger screen???
