from a Cornish village through which their eventual lead singer,

Polly Brown, had passed with her sister;in fact, there is no such village,

@thatmuse76 I know it was the 70's, but there was alot of 70's fashions that looked really good. Look here on youtube at any Mac and Katie Kissoon videos, her dresses were GORGEOUS. This just looks like a patchwork quilt that got hit with a weed whacker! But once again, LOVE LOVE LOVE the song, and she sounds incredible.

Macaulay would NEVER have let Polly Brown sing like this (per the liner notes from all the CD's) so where the hell did this version come from? I have every vinyl and CD version I thought was ever released of both Picketywith and Polly Brown but I have NEVER heard this version of SOKaM before. Where can I get this version?

You can get this version by putting a cassette recorder next to the speaker and pushing record.

That's how we used to do it in the seventies.

This is from BBC`s Top Of The Pops ! In 1966 the BBC initially banned any artists from miming on the show saying they had to sing live. As it wasnt always possible to recreate a `single` live , the BBC compromised whereby a specially recorded backing track was permitted but those on the rerecorded track had to be in the TV studio . This practice continued until 1980. So basically all TOTP performances from 1966 to 1980 are different from the hit singles of which this is one.

Wow I always thought Polly Brown was black! Up In A Puff Of Smoke was a semi hit for her in 1975 here in the states. She sounds so much like Diana Ross's replacement in The Supremes Jean Terrell. So much that Polly could've pulled off singing Stoned Love and no one may have noticed it wasn't Jean.
