I went to war with a state that was protected by another empire. I was also bottlenecked by a state that was my ally so when the protectors came to fight me, they would go through that city state and not make it through. I love the combat in this game. Such a deep game.

@D3v1nH4H4 Civ games have always had 7+ different difficulty settings. So it can be as easy or as hard as you'd like.

You can also automate a lot of different aspects of it when you start, so you can focus on learning the game bit by bit.

A very enticing LP you've got going here. If I were you, I'd capitalize on the great advantage you have with Bowmen and whoop Persia's hiney and raze his cities before the unit becomes utterly obsolete. That would pretty much free up all the western city states to come under your sphere of influence..

I picked up Civ V and have been relatively hooked on it.

I really liked this LP, very exciting start and I wish you the best of luck.

In my limited experience, if you want a culture victory DO NOT expand too much. As Russia I expanded and conquered like a madman (or madwoman in Russia's case) and it was costing almost 8000 culture for my next civic and this was nowhere near being close to finishing 5 trees.

EG: Bollywood Achievement (win a cultural victory as ghandi with 3 cities or less

It looks like Persia might try to attack you quill. And you can increase production by having citizens work hills (2 hammers standerd, and +1 for mines), It will decrease your build time on all units.

@opresopre It's utterly ridiculous, given the digital release on Steam, that they didn't do a world-wide simultaneous release -- I guess it's because of agreements with physical stores. :(

Oh well, the way things are going physical stores won't be selling anything except console games in a few years -- and then PC gamers can enjoy pure digital releases in the future!

And one question, are the vikings or the dutch playable civs? couldnt catch it when u picked ur civ

@opresopre Yeah, I know -- I think Steam does that so it doesn't upset the physical retailers. :(

I don't believe the Vikings or the Dutch are options right now, which is too bad because I really enjoyed as Willem van Oranje in Civ 4. However, they will have downloadable content for the game, which I suspect will include more civilizations. Hopefully we can have a bigger roster soon!

Loved the LP, your commentary is both witty and interesting. Oh, and you might want to check the cultural policy you just picked up because it doesn't decrease the cost of workers. It sped up how fast they make improvements.

This is such a detailed LP you even explain things you dont do and why you dont do them (first time I see a LP explain things that never happen, and its awesome to also learn what not to do and why). Also love how you also explain how everything works and the differences with civ 4 so everyone can understand what you are doing even if we dont have civ.

And those little facts are just the icing on top! (history, Napoleons height, banana genetic engineering, etc...)
