ARE YOU JOKING ME???? OKAY THERE ARE ALTERNATIVES TO EATING MEAT!! you think its perfectly ine for all cows to be bred just to go to the slaughter house and be sshocked and cut to death? wow, and you should see the conditions veal calves are kept in. In their little stalls, no their boxes, they don't even have enough room to turn around! Think about what poor animals have to go through just so you can eat their bodies?what if ppl bred humans just to senf them to the sluaghter house to be eaten??
It is sadistic to eat meat? Man I have heard of extremists before, but that takes the cake. How is killing a vegetable any less 'sadistic?' There is plenty of evidence that plants feel pain. Go join the Jains, and leave me to my burger... yummy.
I think your brain has spiders nesting in it. I gave no excuse for eating meat, as none is needed. I commented on the assertion that it is sadistic to eat meat, that is all.
There's no evidence that plants can feel pain, dumbass. They respond to damage by increasing respiration, but they don't have any sort of nervous system and most certainly CANNOT feel pain. Animals, on the other hand, can, which is why they should be treated humanely.
I know, you cannot feel their pain so they must not feel pain. It is just your excuse to allow you to eat plants guilt-free. Heartless people like you make me sick. Poor celery.
@spamanon So show us this plenty of evidence. Plants feeling pain? What for? They can't even move to avoid it. This is the reason why animals and humans (verterbrates) feel pain - cause they are able to run away from danger. Nature is very logical in contrast to some people...
To eat meat in itself isn't sadistic. Sadictic is how it's mostly "produced". You can see an exemple on this video. But maybe you're too selfish to get it.

Because over 80% are born through caesarean section, and they often break their bones because the skeleton isn't able to grow as fast as the rest of the body. Their muscles force the heart to work even stronger than what it's suppose to do, because all of them need blood. It hasn't been bred through normal surcomstances and therefor it's us who are responsible for it's missery, and we should put a stop to it.
Hundreds of blue x holstein calves have been born on this farm over the years i have NEVER had to call the vet to do a caesarean section. Most are born without assistance and i have never seen any with broken bones ! They grow very well and lead a happy life. They are great cattle to work with - Calm and friendly
i just heard of belgian blues today... through a national geographic clip.. now tell me... do they ever hurt humans.. or attack each other.. cuz they do look intimidating with all dat muscle....
@holsteincowboy Lead a happy life with a happy ending in a slaughter house, right? Because they were great cattle to work with - calm and friendly... no, this is too cruel.
Hannesisnotstraight is sorta right...BB's have a light bone frame, which is the reason for making bones easy to break. It's not because the bones aren't able to grow as fast as the muscles, its because of genetics. PURE BB's need C-sections done b/c of small pelvic area realtive too all that muscle mass, and a large calf to boot that has already developed DM characteristics prior to birth. Hetero BB's though are far less trouble to deal with than pure, as holsteincowboy has stated.
Forget the last message. I just realized you would most likely be selling this calf before it's weaned off milk anyway, so you might not know what the weaned weight or finished weight is.
Nice looking calf. I'm curious to know the weaning weight of a Belgian Blue cross and also what their finished weight is? There are a few breeders in Alberta & I believe the majority of the crosses are with dairy. Belgian Blue isn't the best range animal but they do just great in a feedlot.
In the last few years i have bred the bottom 25% of cows to beef bulls. This year i will breed all my cows to holsteins because i need more replacements.

When you breed them to a Holstein, do you sell them as a meat breed or are they mostly used for milking? Is the meat tough or tender?

They are a meat breed.. I have 2 blue x holstein milking - They give less milk than a pure holstein. The meat is very tender.

Bull or a Heifer? And, was it out of a cow or 1st calf heifer?
INAyrshirecowgirl 4 years ago
Janice, Bull and out of 3rd lac cow. It would be risky to use this breed on heifers as the calves tend to be large
