What's your fucking point Henry? Money makes the world go round, and anybody with half a mind would be able to understand that to make money, production companies need X many people to see the movie. Therefore, they advertise, and by advertising, they choose a demographic. If they didn't do what Rollins described as so terrible and unholy, then nobody would go to see their fucking film. If they didn't target us as their demographic, there would NO entertainment for us to go to. Simple.

@ktrel54 Because people don't know how to behave when they don't have that sort of thing going on. The alternative is actual quality movies, music, art, and culture. You say there would be no money made, but you have to look at how much of the money now goes towards overpaid actors and overpaid executives... in every industry. In the music industry how much goes to acts like Rollins and how much to executives? the non-Britney acts make 2 or 3 bucks per unit sold.

He often compares one record to another as "good to bad" or "better" or "worse quality", and that's what you just did. There is no such thing as "quality movies, music, art and culture" - it's a simple matter of what appeals to the individual's taste. Nobody has the right to declare any piece of entertainment "good" or "bad" because that's a completely incorrect judgement to make.

@Estragon17 Anyway, the point is that certain things appeal to the masses, and certain things only appeal to a minority. That's how these companies "target" their audience. The second point is that an appropriate allocation is made to the musicians. The unfortunate fact is that creating and marketing art costs a lot of money and that money is distributed appropriately to all arms of that creative process. The artist gets very little because that's what's left. Executives are no exception to this

@brkdwnxx Please do not confuse quality as being equal to quantity. A good movie is going to be a good movie based on the quality and amount of money put into it, NOT how much MORE money they spend on MARKETING. Albeit, I went to the theaters 3 times after seeing a well made movie while the other two were nearly regrettable. Still haven't seen the feature I planned on seeing. For shame, I know.

I honestly find the constant suggestion of a new release nauseatingly repulsive to the point where if there was ever an interest to watch said movie it's vaporized by the second time seeing something about it, yet strangely love the ads, "Darth Vader cutout with cheese(?)" Admittedly I'd consider watching it if they'd let me take home the cutout for a conversation piece. I have never watched a movie because it was being advertises everywhere. In fact most highly ad movies I avoid.

To avoid the on slot of advertising the spews out at us try to buy locally made products, shop the farmers market, shop at locally owned grocery stores. Do not fall in the trap of corporate owned stores; it is not always easy to do this though. If you have small children, there are some wonderful locally owned toys stores that sell only high quality non-violent toys and education material. Think before you buy!
