From personal experience cops do this to keep the black man down. I was cycling in a Black neighborhood in Queens and because it was 1 AM I didn't think anyone would care about some guy slowly riding on the sidewalk, so I did. Immediately a pig van almost mounts the curb right next to me. Shocked, I look in their direction. Noticing I wasn't Black the driver gives me a smug shit-eating grin and shakes his head as if to say: oh, you're not Black, so we're not going to make your life hell today.

there should be more subdivisions within the law that allows a cyclist on the sidewalk if there is not heavy pedestrian flow and if you are riding slowly it should be allowed but thats not gonna feed cops soooo yeah i get a summons for riding on an empty sidewalk cause its against the law ... they must then change the law to make more sense.. if u are not causing danger then you shouldnt get a ticket... its all BS if enough complain they will add more subdivisions in that law 240.20 sub 5
